Though the Digidestined, both the younger and the older generation had started off their adventures working only alongside one another, their determination and teamwork had not only helped keep not only the Digital World and their own reality safe from the dark and corruptive forces for several years, but it had also improved each Digidestined and their partner for the better, helping many mature and focus more clearly on the path they wanted for their futures.

Likewise, their own lives had changed as well, with many off at college, nearly finished with high school, or in Cody's case, mid-way through, but with his constant studies and his friends continuing to help with his lessons, it was clear that the youngest of the Digidestined would be skipping a grade or two, while the rest began moving into the careers they had chosen for themselves.

Currently, the nineteen year old Davis Momotiya, the leader of the younger Digidestined, as well as the Digidestined of Courage, Friendship and Miracles, was walking home after a big soccer game with a smile on his face, showing how much he had changed over the years.

"You were awesome." Davis then heard DemiVeemon say enthusiastically from within his gym bag as he popped his head out with a prideful grin, the smile causing Davis to smile back at his partner.

"Thanks, Vee, but I couldn't have done it alone. The team have been training hard all season." Davis said in reply, keeping his smile as he added. "Not to mention we can always count on our friends to support us."

"As well as the Odaiba High Cheerleaders." DemiVeemon teased, causing Davis to roll his eyes at his partner's antics, having grown out of his old ways and just ignored Veemon's comment.

After their final battle with MaloMyotismon, committed to his dream, Davis knew he had to focus and improve, not only regarding his grades, but he had to improve himself, to which the Digidestined of Miracles not only spent more time studying, he also tried to change himself, which included acting nicer to Yolei, TK and Jun, as well as using his head over acting to his gut when confronted with a challenge.

His change in attitude, along with his more mature features, had also given the maroon haired Digidestined a rather large fanbase, with many girls, including those on the cheerleader squad, trying to win his affection and ask him out.

And with Digimon now welcomed in Odaiba, becoming partners to other chosen, many of the female Digimon that had made Odaiba their new home now found themselves drawn to Veemon, seeing him as a kind and brave Digimon, seeing him as their ideal mate.

However, Davis didn't pay much attention to his adoring fans, putting his efforts more into his studies, his soccer training and, of course, his friends, knowing that he had his whole life still ahead of him.

"Davis!" A voice then called out behind him, causing Davis and DemiVeemon to look back, both smiling to see both Kari Kamiya, the nineteen year old Digidestined of Light, running towards them with a smile, while her partner, Gatomon, rested on her shoulders.

Looking upon Kari, Davis couldn't help but to smile, not only glad to see the brunette, finding that her presence and her smile always warmed his day, but looking at her, Davis took a moment to admire the Digidestined of Light.

Like him, Kari had also matured both physically and mentally, only now Davis was a little more focused on the physical side to Kari, seeing that while she kept her hair short and clipped to one side with a pink clip.

To Davis, Kari was as beautiful as the day they first met, her body of pure perfection in his eyes, where he took a brief moment to look upon her developed body, making sure he didn't stare too long as he didn't want to give her the wrong impression.

However, seeing Kari in her high school uniform, consisting of a long sleeved green top, a green skirt and a simple pair of black shoes, Davis couldn't help but think just how amazing Kari looked.

He had loved Kari since the first day he met her, but after the battle with MaloMyotismon, it had become clear to Davis that she only saw him as a friend, and he believed he would never have a chance to be anything more, so he opted to remain her friend, and found their friendship growing over the years, with the brunette seeming to take any chance she could to spend time with him, time Davis always cherished.

"Hey, Kari." Davis then said with a welcoming smile. "I'm glad you and Gatomon could make it to the match."

"It's just not the same without you two and your enthusiasm cheering us on." DemiVeemon added, expressing his sincerity toward the girls, who both smiled at the V marked Digimon's kind words.

Among the many changes in her life, Kari was now the head of the school's cheerleading squad, with Gatomon often joining her partner and the other girls during games, waving a small pair of pom poms in her hands as she took part in their routine.

"So what's up?" Davis then asked, glad to see Kari and Gatomon, but he was a little curious as to why they were still near the high school so late after the game.

"Well since my place is on the way anyways, I figured we'd all walk together." The brunette replied with a smile, her words causing Davis to smile back and nod, where Kari walked up next to him as the pair and their partners walked towards their destinations, chatting about their week, school, friends, the Digital World and whatever else came to mind.

And all the while, Davis kept a smile on his face, he was happy to have Kari in his life, even if it would never be in the way he wanted.

Eventually, after the four continued to walk and talk, they arrived outside a familiar apartment complex, where Davis and DemiVeemon looked at Kari and Gatomon as the maroon haired smiled and said. "Well, looks like this is where we part. Have a good night, both of you, and we'll see you in the Digital World tomorrow."

"Have a good night!" Kari called out, keeping up her friendly smile and voice as Davis turned and began walking away before, once she was certain he was out of earshot, the brunette gained a dreamy smile and added in a low whisper. "My love."

Kari wasn't certain when it happened, possible during the battle with MaloMyotismon, sometime after, or even before, but the brunette had fallen head over heels in love with the Digidestined of Courage and Friendship, finding him not to be the clone of her brother others thought he was, but a unique and special individual who she cared for deeply, someone she loved to be with and to have in her life.

She would often fantasize about them dating, going to the movies together, dancing and other romantic situations, and as the years went on, seeing Davis mature physically, Kari also found her fantasies turning more erotic, desiring him more than she ever thought she would.

Letting out a tired sigh, Kari then walked towards the elevator of her complex, her partner looking at her with a sad smile, knowing exactly what was on Kari's mind.

As the brunette had finally started to see Davis in a new light, he had stopped asking her out, seeing her more as a friend and not acting any further, leaving Kari to think that his feelings for her had faded, feelings of which Gatomon empathized, having developed her own crush on Veemon, but found the V marked Digimon acting as more of a friend than how he used to act.

'I guess the saying is true, Karma is a bitch.' The Digidestined of Light thought mentally, finding the irony that after all the times Davis had asked her out, the moment she started to develop feelings for him, his feelings disappeared.

Arriving at her apartment and opening the door, Kari took her shoes off and placed her bag on the ground, where Gatomon jumped from off her shoulder as the brunette made her way towards her bedroom, not noticing her guests as she flopped onto her bed.

Sora Takenouchi, the Digidestined of Love, and her partner, Biyomon, who had arrived at the Kamiya residence to visit Tai and Kari, both watched the brunette walk past them and into her room, both giving Gatomon a look, who shrugged at them, before the older Digidestined moved towards the bedroom, just as she heard Kari let out a sigh, one that was a mix of bliss and depression, a sound Sora knew well, the depressed sigh of a girl hopelessly in love.

"Kari?" Sora called, knocking on the bedroom door before slowly opening it and gazing inside, getting the brunette's attention as she looked up at the doorway, expressing her embarrassment to the orange haired girl.

"Oh, Sora. Sorry, my mind was... elsewhere." Kari replied as she sat up.

"Let me guess, Davis?" Sora questioned, lightly smirking as she saw the blush on Kari's face.

"It's alright. I understand what you are feeling, but the longer you keep it to yourself, the more chances there will be for someone else to ask him out." The Digidestined of Love then added as she sat on the bed next to Kari, whose eyes widened in fear at the idea of someone else being with Davis, of being his girlfriend while she watched from the sidelines.

"But what if he rejects me? I was horrible to him in the past, what if he doesn't feel the same about me anymore? He hasn't asked me out in years! What if I ruin the friendship we have and he distances himself even further from me? I..." Kari started to question, losing herself to the what ifs that plagued her mind.

Though Sora wanted to say something to comfort the younger girl, she found herself doubting her own abilities at the moment.

The orange haired girl had broken off her relationship with Matt a few months ago, and while things ended on friendly terms for them, Sora found herself questioning her own fews of love and relationships, with a part of her looking every now and then at Tai, wondering if things might work out for them instead, but found that he had already entered a relationship with a girl from his college.

Putting her own troubles in the back of her mind, Sora refocused on helping Kari as she placed a comforting hand on the brunette's shoulder as she then said. "Kari, we both know Davis, he doesn't hold grudges, if he did he wouldn't be on speaking terms with Yolei. I'm sure Davis still cares for you, everyone can see that you two would make a great couple."

"Except Tai..." Kari replied in a depressed tone, with a matching cloud over her head as she added. "He still thinks I'm hung over TK."

Sora blinked a few times, her mouth starting to move to say something, before she stopped herself, remembering how dense the older brunette could be and figured there was no point arguing with Kari over it.

But thinking to herself, an idea quickly came to mind, causing Sora to smile as she offered. "Tell you what, we're all meeting in the Digital World tomorrow, right? Contact him and ask him to meet us earlier, before the others arrive, and we'll arrange it so that you and Davis can have some 'alone time', then you can ask him how he feels."

Kari couldn't help but blush brightly at the idea, where images came to mind of being alone with Davis, having a romantic moment with him as they confessed their love, before slowly coming in for a kiss and...

"Earth to Kari, snap out of it!" Sora yelled as she snapped her fingers before the brunette's eyes, snapping her out of her daydream, where Sora sighed and said. "Just prepare yourself for tomorrow and keep it together. Just tell him how you feel and I'm sure by the end of the day you two will be together."

"I hope so." Kari replied as she fell back onto the bed, looking over at her nightstand, where amongst a handful of pictures of her friends and family, she took notice of one with Davis in his soccer outfit, giving a grin to the camera, causing the brunette to smile as she thought of a future with Davis.

-Meanwhile-

Back at his place, Davis rested on his bed, looking up at the ceiling as he rested his arms under his head, finding his mind once again filled with thoughts of Kari, causing him to sigh lightly.

'I really am hopeless, aren't I?' He questioned himself mentally, looking over to his side to see DemiVeemon sleeping almost soundly nearby, though making sounds every now and then as if he was dreaming.

"Gato... mon... so pretty..." DemiVeemon then let out, keeping a warm smile on his face at the mention of the Digimon of Light, telling Davis his partner was dreaming of his own love interest once again.

While Davis remained thinking, a small beeping then caught Davis' attention, where he turned and took his cell phone from off of the nightstand, turning it on to see a text message from Kari, saying that she, Sora, Gatomon and Biyomon would be heading to the Digital World a little bit earlier tomorrow, and asked him to please join them.

But what really threw him off was seeing the "love, Kari" she had left at the end, part of him wanting to think it was on a more intimate line, but believed it was just a slip up similar to one Tai made to Sora some years back.

Smiling to himself, Davis wrote back his reply, saying he would meet them there, before lying back, wondering if everything was alright, knowing that none of the Digidestined or other chosen had encountered any trouble since Armageddemon had been defeated.

'Meh, it'll just be good to spend time with them and the others.' Davis thought before turning off the lights, closing his eyes and falling asleep, not knowing what tomorrow would bring for him or those close to him.

Within the Digital World, deep beneath the sea, a small army of Divermon and MarineDevimon were swimming into the deep abyss for their target.

With Daemon defeated, locked away in the Dark Ocean, and the humans now more intrusive in the domains of their Master, it was time for a new leader to be awakened.

Continuing to venture through the dark waters, the group of Digimon found their target, an ancient castle, all but buried beneath the ocean floor, its entrances sealed, forcing the dark Digimon to search for the way to open it, and release its occupant from his forced slumber, where one Divermon looked upon the main gates, seeing a mark upon the door many of the dark Digimon recognized.

The Crest of Greed.
