Elara paced to and fro in front of the cell bars. She stopped in front of the door and looked at the metal barrier again.
She quickly grabbed the bars ready to tear the door off it's hinges but, once again, the metal burned wickedly through her hands. She held on as long as she could this time, determined to pull the infuriating barrier away but she had to let go when the pain became too great.
"GODAMN IT" she cried angrily and looked down at her burnt hands.
She walked over to the wall to her left and slid down against it in defeat. She raised her head and looked through the bars Into the cell adjacent, noticing now that Castiel had pushed himself into the corner of his cell with his back pressed firmly against the wall.
Elara noted that he suddenly reminded her of the broken, cowed monsters upstairs.
His eyes caught hers watching and she felt a little ashamed of her thoughts after seeing the fire within...
"Hey" she called over "Sorry...I guess?"
Elara rolled her eyes. That hadn't sounded like a genuine apology. She tried again
"Look, if I'd have known they were going to put you through that, I would of just killed you outright"
"And that's supposed to make me feel better?" Castiel snapped back.
Elara cringed...she was making a bit of a balls up with this conversation, but she was glad to see he still hadn't indeed lost his fire
"Still..." he continued with a softer tone "thank you...for stopping them"
Elara felt a small victory and was glad he had noticed she had helped get him out of the horrific predicament, if only temporarily.
She stood and moved closer to the adjacent cell, then, she dropped once again to the floor but suddenly hissed in pain when her burnt hands touched the cold, concrete floor.
Castiel noticed her discomfort "maybe you should heal those burns" he scoffed
Elara stared at her hands "I can't..." she replied quietly
Castiel rolled his eyes then stood, he walked over to the bars between them and looked down at her "I may not be able to read through your lies, but I know exactly what abomination you are, so there's no point in hiding your abilities"
"Wow" Elara snapped as she also stood to face him "abomination? Really?...you know, I was just starting to like you but now you suddenly sound like the rest of those winged arseholes" she turned her back to him and continued to study the burns, Castiel watched, curious now as to why she wouldn't have healed if she could...
"What's the matter with your abilities, is it the warding in the bars?...I've never seen these sigils before" he asked, genuinely curious and surprised they didn't burn his skin as it had hers when he touched them experimentally. The question hung in the air and Castiel didn't think she was going to answer but as he went to turn away she replied quietly
"Nothings the matter with them, I'm just not exactly what you think I am..." Elara turned back to face him, the confusion clear in his features "You believe I'm Nephilim as does Hans, but, with what my father told me, the circumstances of my creation and birth were quite different...
Paris, France 1868
Naomi paced to and fro In the small, dilapidated room as the contractions now came thick and fast. A man standing across the room starting rubbing his hands on his trousers nervously
"perhaps we should call for a doctor" he offered again
"nonsense" Naomi replied as she breathed "I've told you everything is going to be fine..."
"and my wife?" the man growled again
Naomi had become more and more agitated at this man's presence over the past several months and wished she had just left him behind in Britain when they had been forced to flee but, she had promised Alice she would keep him by her side...and angels kept their word. As for his unanswered question Naomi was almost positive that this birth would be fatal for Alice...birthing a Nephilim as a human always was, but this circumstance had never been attempted. Birthing a Nephilim whilst a human hosted an angels form? Could Alice survive the process? Or would the results remain the same? More worryingly...could this birth kill Naomi...it was a risk she was willing to take if it meant her plans had a chance to be successful
"Her soul will be safe..." Naomi finally replied
"What does that mean!" The man growled "those other angels that came looking for you, they told me Alice would die if she births this child!"
"But she is not birthing it" Naomi cried losing her patience "I am! Now be silent fool...it's time!"
Naomi lay on the cot and concentrated her efforts, she felt profound pain and strange sensations running through her true form. She swallowed the large lump that formed in her throat at the thought that this risky endeavour could in fact cost her her life. She screamed an unearthly scream as the baby began to appear fast.
After a short time and with one last push the baby emerged with a bright, intense light that almost blinded the man in the room. Naomi Immediately felt Alice's soul leave the body and the pain that ripped through Naomi's true form was incredible. Naomi clung to consciousness as she gripped the cot and let out a pained breath.
The man approached and quickly swaddled the child for fear the winters bite would become a danger to it. He then gasped when the room started to shudder and the wind outside picked up...he knew these signs. the angels were back, and had warned him that if this baby were to be born then they would end its life...the man looked into the eyes of this baby...this baby that was his but had been used for what he believed were malicious, unholy purposes...he never truly believed Naomi was an angel after she had possessed his wife... his faith had learnt him that demons possessed people...not angels. Nevertheless, he had secretly planned this moment to take a stand for months, this demon laying beside him had taken his wife...he would not allow it to also take his daughter.
Taking advantage of Naomi's weakness, he quickly grabbed a small bag and quickly disappeared with his small daughter into the back streets, avoiding the bright lights that were appearing at the front of the abandoned building.
"It's alright my girl" the man whispered as he ran through the small, dirty, back alleys of Paris "I shall protect you with my life...these demons won't have you...I swear...my little Elara"
December 2016
Castiel looked at Elara in shock
"Naomi?" he cried "Naomi did this?"
"Oh, you know her then..." Elara scowled "the countless angels I've questioned didn't seem to think she existed at all..."
"Why did she do this?" Castiel asked frowning "what was her endgame?"
"My father always believed she was a demon working for Satan, but, of course that wasn't the truth. I finally learnt of the first conversations that took place between my father and Naomi...she wanted to create beings superior to angels, but, not as unruly as the original Nephilim...which is why she took my mother when I was six months in the womb...she believed feeding me small amounts of grace would turn me into some form of powerful angel hybrid, similar to Nephilim, but without the so called "world destroying power"...whilst I am truly stronger than human or angel there are certain powers I lack...healing for one"
"Yet you retain immortality..." Castiel pondered
"It would seem so. I have healing powers in a sense that a wound will heal quicker than that of a human but, I've never been able to truly tap the power so I can't control it at will"
Elara looked up at Castiel as he was lost in his thoughts, "you know her!" she said suddenly "tell me where she is!"
Castiel frowned at her through the bars "she's dead" he announced
Elara turned away to stare at the floor
"NO!" she suddenly growled as she turned back "you're lying to protect her!"
"I'm not" Castiel replied "Naomi is no ally of mine after what I suffered at her hands"
Elara studied the angel carefully through the bars
"Perhaps" Elara sighed as she slipped back to the cold floor, feeling utterly empty now...all desire for revenge suddenly stolen away
"I understand the hatred for Naomi" Castiel started "but why hunt us all?"
Elara picked at the cold floor, it couldn't hurt to open up to this angel...she had no one else to speak to anymore and he would probably be dead within the next few days...
"Because... angels hunted me and my father for years, always we were on the run, moving from country to country, until, one day my father became ill. We couldn't run anymore and they inevitably found us. Luckily for me, when I was young, my father found people that agreed to teach me of the supernatural things in the world, and how to combat such things as I grew, so, I knew how to fight monsters. But, when the angels came, I was out gathering supplies and my father was alone, dying In his bed. They showed him no mercy and I heard the screams from our cabin as they ripped the answer to my whereabouts from his mind"
"I'm sorry" Castiel said quietly
"Are you?" Elara spat "They certainly were... my TRUE power had blossomed only a month before and I unleashed that power upon them. They didn't stand a chance against me and when they dropped their blades I lifted that celestial metal and drove it deep into my enemies hearts. I was about to finish another when that bitch Naomi entered the cabin. I'd never laid eyes on her before but I somehow instantly knew the angel standing before me riding my dead mother's body... then, she had the nerve to apologise!" Elara spat, as unbidden tears started to fall
"She apologised, and I...I hesitated!...Naomi took the injured angel and they fled in fear! I lost my chance to avenge my parents for what I thought would be forever... until the fateful night I once again crossed the Atlantic ocean, smuggled amongst cargo where I witnessed the glorious sight of the angels as they fell to earth... and then, I knew I would find her again... even if I had to kill every one of you to do so!" Elara wiped the tears from her cheek
"My story isn't the only one. Many have been wronged by your kind...Miss Sunder, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Bowden, Emily, Richard and the list goes on and on, people that thought angels were pure and beautiful!... but no. Angels ARE monsters! and that's why I hunt you! Elara spat angrily as she glared at Castiel.
