Hi everyone! I am Indy18 and after several years from my last story Birthdays, I am here with another story. I have always been interested in the character and secrecy of Nimrod. Thought I might have a try at it after I rewatched the episode The Missing Klink in which Nimrod is mentioned. Here is what I came up with. I hope you guys enjoy it and let me know what you think. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Disclaimer: Hogan's Heroes does not belong to me. I just like to write about them.

Prologue: Early 1944 somewhere in Germany….

The Moon shone brightly on a cool night in the middle of Germany. A man dressed in black hid behind a bush quietly waiting. A noise to his left made him quickly look over in that direction. A small animal came into focus and the man let out a breath that he had been holding. The cool night air caused it to form a cloud around his mouth as the man turned to face forward again.

The man tried to focus but thoughts kept creeping into his mind, distracting him from the terrible stillness of waiting. He sighed. She was late. He knew that this meeting place was dangerous. There were several German patrols in these woods. Could something have happened to her? What if she had been captured by one of the patrols? Or worse...killed. "No", he thought, I won't even think about that."

He suddenly was pulled from his thoughts by a woman walking towards him. She was so quiet that he wouldn't have even known she was there if it had not been for the fact he had glanced up. She was dressed in a red evening gown as if she had just stepped off of the red carpet in Hollywood or come from a fancy nightclub. She wore a matching necklace of rubies around her neck. Her long blonde hair shone in the moonlight as it cascaded over the shoulders as her blue eyes were quickly looking over the clearing. Finally, she sat down on a small log and gave a whistle that resembled an owl.

The man was frozen for several seconds staring at her and then when he remembered why he was out there he gave a whistle in return before glancing around the woods again to make sure she wasn't followed. When he was convinced of no danger he stepped out from the bushes and made his way to her. In the moonlight, his features could be seen better. He was taller and like the woman, his skin was fair with bluish eyes that were also constantly searching his surroundings as if daring the trees and bushes to have a German patrol unit jump out at him. Unlike her, however, his hair was brown and it was askew with leaves and twigs from hiding in the bushes. His eyes settled finally on the beautiful woman before him and she smiled upon seeing him.

"The stars are shining brightly tonight are they not?" she said in the correct code. The way she said it, however, seemed to be more of a friendly greeting.

He answered also in the required code while sitting down next to her and grabbing her hand he said, "It is also shining brightly over London." His thick English accent sounded out of place in the forest just as the woman's dress did. He sounded like he belonged at some high society party in London as opposed to hiding in the bushes waiting to meet a fellow spy.

She smiled brightly before Answering, "Hello Nimrod." They couldn't resist themselves. After all, being in a war did make every moment count. He immediately drew her into his arms and gave her a passionate kiss which she returned. They eventually broke away and stared at each other before he pulled her into an embrace and she put her head on his chest with the comfort of knowing that she had been safe there for a long time. Neither spoke, they were just happy to be with each other.

They sat there in each other's arms before Nimrod broke the silence. "Alright love. What do you need to tell me?"

The woman wiggled out of his arms and turned to face him sighing."There are two things I have to tell you this time."

Nimrod raised an eyebrow at her. She quickly went on. "There is a Panzer division heading from Berlin to France. They will be going through Hammelburg. You are to dispose of it before it reaches Berlin by any means necessary. London itself has given you permission to use Papa Bear and his cubs if absolutely necessary. By no means is the division to reach France."

"The second piece of news" she continued without waiting for him to respond, "Is that I am being transferred to the underground in France. The Gestapo is getting suspicious of me and London does not want to take chances with the only contact that can identify Nimrod to be captured. The ramifications of one us being caught would mean the destruction of the entire German Underground. That can not happen."

The man's face quickly registered shock and then disappointment. "That means I might never see you again, doesn't it?" he asked, trying to mask the immense sadness in his voice though his attempt was unsuccessful.

"Never say never," she answered though he could tell by the tears welling up in her eyes that she has already been contemplating the possibility that fate could be that cruel. Her tears threatened to spill over at any moment and he couldn't bear to look at her that sad and pulled her closer to him where he could rest his chin on her head and let his own tears start to fall. He held her that way for a long time.

Finally, the woman broke the silence. "I think I better be getting back to the party before I am missed by the host or hostess."

"I had better start heading back too. There are a lot of people who would be missing me if I didn't head back soon," he said with great reluctance in his voice.

Before turning to leave they gave each other one more kiss and a hug. As they were parting the man named Nimrod whispered to her, "Starlight...I mean Beth. We have known each other since we were but children. I will never forget you as long as I live and if we make it out of this bloody war alive I swear to you that I will find you. If you ever need anything from me remember to use contact through Papa Bear. He is my ear to the underground as well as London. I love you very much, Beth Landon."

Upon hearing her actual name being used the woman softly smiled fondly and answered his whisper. "I love you too. Goodbye, Peter Newkirk." With that she left the way she came, leaving Nimrod to slip back into his role as Corporal Peter Newkirk. Newkirk turned and headed back towards Stalag Thirteen were Colonel Hogan and the rest of the Heroes would be waiting for him.
