Chapter three - endless dream, part III
A pair of blue eyes stared at him along with a huge smile. In his other world, those lively eyes went out forever. A new twist in your stomach. The guilt and so many thoughts about that past time made Ciel feel bad. His skin paled, and bile rose up his throat.
Unable to hold back a muffled cry, Ciel poured the contents of his stomach at his brother's feet. Rachel screamed in horror as Vincent helped the boy to recover.
"My boy…". The woman put her hand to her mouth, not knowing what to say.
Ciel coughed. The bitter taste in his mouth.
"I'm fine." He said. "It was just a bad feeling."
"Well, I'm going to call the doctor. Ciel…" called the other boy. "Take your brother to the room. The employees will take care of this mess."
"You don't have to. You don't… you do."
Even under protest, Ciel was too weak to prevent aid. So his biggest life ghost helped him to the bedroom. The boy gave permission to clean himself, but forced his brother to put on his nightgown.
Without much resistance, Ciel lay down. His twin sat in an armchair with a huge book. The pleasure on his face when he read to the sick boy.
Ciel even tried, yet his mind wandered away. He looked from the boy to the ceiling. For the first time in a long time, he didn't know how to act. That game, whoever created it, has so far been the most complicated of all. He was confused, scared and missed Sebastian.
He wondered where the butler was. Even with an attentive mind, he closed his eyes. He was not tired, but perhaps sleep would overtake him. Maybe if he slept, things would work out. Perhaps, sleeping, he would wake up where he really should be.
A confusion of shadows danced in his mind. A chase. It was not clear whether he was the stalker or the fugitive. Maybe both. He opened his mouth, however it was difficult to make a sound ...
"Se… bas… Sebastian!"
Ciel jumped up. He was on a huge bed of soft mattresses. His heart was racing. His dreams had not been that mess for a long time. Sitting, he rested his face on both hands. He took a heavy breath.
"Who is Sebastian?"
Ciel's eyes opened in shock. The confusion is dissipating. In front of him, still sitting with the book, was his twin brother. The boy stared at him, silently demanding an answer.
"How do you know about Sebastian?"
"You were moaning that name." He replied, between amused and concerned.
"I wasn't moaning." Ciel pushed the covers away from him, slowly leaving the bed. His brother also got up.
"You didn't answer me. Who is Sebastian?"
"My goddamn butler."
Ignoring any new questions, Ciel ran and locked himself in the bathroom. He turned on the tap. The icy water soon came into contact with the skin on his face, brushing off any trace of confusion.
He stared at his reflection in the mirror. The contract mark no longer burned in his eye, so the contract was undone.
Or it never existed.
But if it was all just a nightmare, how could it be so vivid? He remembered the smells, tastes and touches. As real as this reality, maybe even more.
A small amount of hope tried to blossom in his heart. Perhaps the universe has given you a second chance. An opportunity to start over. This time, with his family alive and happy. But, how to be sure? His mind would not rest until he got answers.
He left the bathroom and did not find his brother. He walked to the door and opened it slowly. He looked both ways just to make sure he didn't find anyone.
He still remembered the path to his office, which at the time belonged to his father. He heard the voices of Vincent and his twin coming up the stairs, accompanied by another male voice. He hurried on even more. When in the office, he locked the door behind him.
The configuration of the books and shelves was different. The titles were organized according to his father's tastes, not his own. There were a few thick books and a stack of papers on the table. Ciel looked at the books without finding anything useful. So he decided to investigate the papers.
He sat down on the big chair and started looking. He didn't know what he was looking for, he just felt that there was something. Most of the papers were administrative jobs. A letter with the royal seal was open, lost among the mess. Ciel read the letter, with no useful information. He blew out a heavy breath. He was about to give up when he accidentally dropped some leaves.
He quickly started to collect them. Among the fallen leaves, he found a newspaper. It dated a few weeks earlier. The cover caught his eye. It reported an explosion on the docks, where about 30 people lost their lives.
However, Ciel remembered the accident perfectly well. He and Sebastian arrested the criminals in time. It was there that they learned of the new drug that was plaguing London.
How can you forget? Now, it was clear. The night before, they were chasing a drug dealer. He was wounded and woke in that place.
He threw the newspaper on the pile. She knew what she had to do. Going to London seemed the best way to find out the truth.
The trip to London never seemed so long. The road stretched beyond sight, in endless winding lines. The sound of the horse's hooves and the rattle of the carriage unnerved him. He blew out a heavy breath.
Ciel snuck out, forcing one of the employees to bring him to London. Even grudgingly, the poor man decided to follow the boss's son's orders. For Ciel it was a waste of time. His employees never discussed an order from him.
It was early afternoon when they finally arrived. The weather was starting to cool off with the growing approach of autumn. Ciel jumped into the city center, giving orders to the old man to wait for him.
A sudden wind blew. His top hat flew, landing at the feet of a middle-aged lady. The woman had red hair, with her gray hair beginning to appear. Her round face was covered in large amounts of makeup, perhaps, he thought, to hide the features of her age. She was quite robust, in her gold dress.
The woman looked at the object with a mixture of disgust and contempt while Ciel came to get the object. A gloved hand was quicker, delivering his good.
The man was smiling pleasantly at him. Ciel swallowed. He didn't believe what his eyes saw.
"Sebastian!"
"This is my name." He replied. "We met?"
"Do not be silly!" He replied. "You are my butler!"
Both the woman and Sebastian laughed.
"I serve only my beautiful lady."
The woman raised her hand, to which Sebastian placed a kiss.
"Furthermore." He continued. "You are too young for my services."
Confusion was on his face, not understanding what services Sebastian was referring to. The black-haired man then laughed and winked at the young man. Ciel's cheeks flushed and, still laughing, Sebastian followed in the footsteps of the lady, who was moving away from the scene, obviously jealous of the interaction.
"What nonsense!" The woman complained, getting lost in the crowd. Sebastian took one last look back, before he also got lost.
