Sirius and Krystal lay panting at the edge of a forest. "We did it, Pads," Krystal muttered. "We actually did it. You're free."

Sirius grinned over at her before turning solemn. "I thought you were dead," he quietly replied. "I was sure…" He didn't need to finish. She knew what he was thinking. "James?"

"Dead," she sadly confirmed.

"Lily?"

"Dead."

"Harry?"

"Abused by Lily's muggle family. But he's a Gryffindor!"

"Remus?"

"Thinks your evil." She cocked her head. "At least, I think he still does. I haven't spoken to him in years. I think he's going to be the new DADA teacher."

"Frank and Alice?"

"Insane. They're baby's fine, though. Gryffindor with Harry."

"My motorcycle?"

"You're motorcycle's fine. I would have brought it, but I didn't have the heart to ask Hagrid for it back. He loves it like a child."

Sirius smirked. "Is Avery still sore that I didn't let her have it?" Krystal instantly paled. "What?" he demanded, worry on his face. "Is that why she's not here? I know I should have let her have it, but I was worried the Ministry would find it and-"

He didn't remember. "Avery's dead," Krystal whispered.

"What?" Sirius demanded.

She refused to look at him. "Avery's been dead for thirteen years, Sirius." It took everything Krystal had to keep her voice from breaking.

"What?" Sirius repeated in a daze. "Not her, too."

Krystal nodded. "It's just you and me, now," she stated. "Remus doesn't trust you, and Peter is evil. The Order of the Phoenix is gone, and most of the people who were in it are dead, anyway. And Dumbledore won't listen to me."

Sirius laid there for a while before speaking. "Harry's with that mudblood Petunia, isn't he?" he inquired.

"Language, Pads," Krystal admonished. "Yeah, he is. Dumbledore wouldn't let me take him. I wasn't family enough. I was his GODMOTHER, and Dumbledore still wouldn't let me have him. He thinks... well... he thinks a lot of things."

"Well, that's the first thing we'll do," Sirius declared. "We'll rescue Harry."

"We can't," she replied. "The whole wizarding world will be looking for you. They'll guard Harry like he's the Minister himself. Besides, they'll guess that you might be with me. Once they see I'm gone, all bets are off."

"Well, we'll run away, then," he answered. "We'll rescue Harry and run away together."

"Yes, I'm sure kidnapping Harry will make him love you," Krystal retorted. Sirius grinned. "What?"

"You learned how to use sarcasm."

Krystal rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I can't leave Emma, and there's no way I'm pulling her from Hogwarts to go gallivanting across the world as convicts. Catherine would kill me."

"Emma?" Sirius queried.

"I forgot you don't know anything," Krystal apologized. "Emma's my daughter."

"You have a daughter?!" Sirius demanded in horror. "A daughter?!"

"Yeah… What's wrong with that?"

"You're married?!" he clarified.

"Was married," she corrected. "He's… not around."

"He left you?! You got married to a man, and he left you?!"

"Stop being so dramatic," she teased. "I'm sorry, but out of Azkaban, life does go on."

"Tell me the name of the man who did this to you, and I will hunt him down and tear him to pieces," Sirius swore.

"Why not?" she snapped. "You're already a wanted criminal on the run. Why not kill some more people?! Why not condemn yourself?! Who needs self-preservation?!" Pain shot across Sirius' face. "Oh, I'm sorry, Siri… I've just spent all these years worrying about you… I- I just don't want to lose you again. You don't know what it's like…" She crumbled up and felt hot tears run down her face.

Suddenly, his arm was around her shoulders, and he was crushing her in his arms. "Yes, I do," he softly replied. "I thought I lost you. I watched them carry you off with Prongs and Lils…"

"Honestly, it freaked me out a little waking up in the morgue like that," she admitted, wiping the tears off her face.

He raised his eyebrow but didn't comment. Krystal was sure he would probably ask later. "I won't lose you again," he promised.

She smiled a little. "He's dead."

"Who is?" he asked, letting her go.

"My husband," she informed. "My husband isn't around because he's dead."

"Oh," Sirius replied, but he didn't sound too sad. She playfully punched him in the side, and he half-heartedly nudged her back. "Who was he?"

"An American," she answered. "Nobody you knew."

"The girl's Emma, you said?"

"Emma Katie Walker," Krystal declared. "Well, Emma Katie Jones since we moved back. She's Ravenclaw, but at least she's dating a Gryffindor."

"That's good," Sirius muttered. He sounded unhappy, but at least he was trying to come to terms with it. Krystal couldn't help feeling horribly guilty. If only he knew the truth...

"She's a great kid," Krystal spoke to break the silence. "You should meet her some time when you're not on the run. Feeling better?"

Sirius nodded. "Let's go."

This is right after Krystal breaks Sirius out of Azkaban. Why didn't she do it sooner? Well, Ember was worried that if they changed the timeline too much, they wouldn't know how to protect Harry. Plus Krystal was busy raising Avery, and it took years of research to figure out how to break him out.
