"Hey, Remus," a girl declared. "You look terrible."

Remus turned in surprise, not having heard the train car open. He must have dozed off and missed something. None of the students should know him, much less his first name. His surprise only greatened when he saw the speaker. "You look like someone I used to know," he noncommittally replied.

The girl rolled her eyes. "Why does everyone say that?" she groaned. She paused like she would let him answer before cutting him off. "Avery Jones?"

"Yes," he admitted.

"Well, I'm not Avery," she snapped. "I'm Emma, her niece. Well, I've never met her, since she died, so I don't know if I'm technically her 'niece', but she's definitely my aunt."

"You sound like her," he dryly answered. "I didn't know Avery had other family."

"You didn't know she had a twin?" Emma inquired. "That's pretty weird. Mum said you were the smart one."

"Wait… You're Krystal's daughter?" Remus demanded in shock.

"Yeah…" Emma replied. "Isn't it obvious?"

"Krystal is dead," Remus asserted. "I was there."

Emma shrugged. "Peter faked her death to save her life," she indifferently explained. "Ew! He's not my dad. Don't make that face. Anyway, once she was already 'dead', she ran away to America and met my Daddy. Once he died, she decided to move back to England. Something about making me go to school." She made a funny face.

"Krystal's alive?" Remus inquired. "And she has a daughter?"

"That's what I just said," Emma pointed out. "She might have told you, but ever since you guys graduated, you were always moping and avoiding her. Anyway, my aunt Cate says you wouldn't believe Avery that Sirius wasn't evil, so there was no point in trying."

Remus felt like he had been sucker punched. Krystal was alive? After all this time, she was alive, and she had been hiding from him. It broke his heart all over again. He couldn't exactly blame her… He had been avoiding them, but not for why they thought. By trying to protect them, he had really just shut them out.

"Anyway, you look terrible," Emma restated. "Mum talks about you guys sometimes… She has all these pictures of you in this big album labeled Murderers or something."

"Marauders," he corrected.

"Yep. Marauders," Emma agreed. "You look much better in your pictures. A whole lot younger." She cocked her head. "Did you like Mum?"

"As a friend," he carefully replied. He wasn't he trusted Emma yet; she took after Avery a lot, and he wasn't sure it was a good thing in this case. "Nothing more."

Emma shrugged. "Okay," she answered. "In that case, I won't tell Mum you want to meet her again."

Remus sighed. "It doesn't sound like she would want to see me," he stated.

Emma shrugged again. "Maybe she's waiting for you to find her," she offered. "Or maybe she's waiting until after Sirius gets out of Azkaban. Sometimes, I can't tell. Anyway, I won't tell anybody about your problem. Mum made me swear." With that she skipped off. "Fred! George! Wait up! Hey, Angelina!"

Remus rubbed his head. She was definitely related to Avery, somehow, and she did seem to know too much about the past. But could she really be Krystal's daughter? It was too much to take in.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a chocolate bar. He remembered Krystal teasing him about always having a stash of chocolate in reach. Dejectedly, he slid it back into his pocket. He sighed, realizing how tired he was. He closed his eyes…

Avery never had much tact. Since Emma doesn't remember him, she has even less.
