Kevin doesn't know how it happened.
Weeks have passed since the Forever Knights attack. He's been rebuilding his castle as well as trying to reconstruct how the kingdom will run.
He's finally decided to stop hiding from his people.
They deserve to know that he's still alive and has been working behind the scenes for the kingdom. His subjects who are aliens deserve to see themselves being represented, and not just the Plumbers or Ben, who for the most part, are human.
This kingdom was built on the collaboration of humans and aliens. They should be reflecting that. Kevin's been a coward and has run from his own mistakes.
Kevin's done hiding.
After he made this decision, and told Max and Ben, he didn't expect much to change.
So, to say he feels a little weird the next day is, a massive understatement.
When Kevin wakes up, he notices how small he feels in his bed. He also notices how insanely uncomfortable his bed is. It's never been an issue before but now, he feels like his whole body is achy.
Kevin groans and sits himself up. His line of vision, is different. He's eye level now with most of his furniture. He lifts his hand up, and Kevin feels himself stop breathing.
His hand…it's flesh. Kevin looks down at himself, and he's all flesh. He panics a little and rushes toward the full body mirror in his room. As he all but jumps off the bed and runs he feels like a baby deer walking. He's unbalanced and not used to being this light. He rips down the tarp covering his mirror it and he freezes.
Kevin's eyes roam the mirror and he can't believe what he sees.
His body isn't an amalgamation anymore. He's not a mixture of ten different aliens anymore, he's just, Kevin.
He looks at himself and he can't believe what he sees. He doesn't recognize himself at all.
He's touching his face and moving his body. His reflection copies him exactly. He really is in his old body again.
Well, a different version of his body.
Kevin feels too small and too soft. He feels his skin and it's extremely delicate in comparison to the hard and rough exterior of the Tetramand body he had before.
He doesn't look anything like he remembers, but that was when he was eleven. The body he has now is very much not a child but a full-grown man.
He's taller than he thought he'd be. In comparison this is short to his previous form. He shoulders are broad, and his muscle mass from years of training transferred. He's mainly muscle, he turns his torso slightly and can see some of the tone and definition in his back and he's quite impressed.
He was scrawny as a child and hadn't started to train his body at all, so he's very surprised to see the body mass he has as an adult.
His hair is a lot longer than he thought too. Not like he ever really got haircuts, but the fact his black hair reaches down to his back is shocking. He wasn't used to it being past his shoulders.
While he's looking at himself he hears his door open, and for once in his life he feels awkward and exposed.
Verdona is in his doorway and she closes the door gently behind her and leans back on it.
"Well I thought I felt a massive release of energy, didn't expect it to be yours." She states and eyes him up.
Kevin feels himself heat up in embarrassment, "What do you mean?" his voice is different than he thought too.
It's not a mixture of different vocal chords demanding attention. It's deep and gruff, but not guttural like it used to be.
"Exactly what it sounds like, you released all the energy you were holding onto." She rolls her eyes at him irritated he hasn't caught up to her explanation.
"I wasn't, I had mutated from the Omnitrix. It wasn't..." He tries to explain to her.
Verdona walks over to him and looks Kevin up and down. He flushes in embarrassment and tries to cover himself with the tarp he had thrown off the mirror.
She snorts to herself and finally responds.
"You had trapped yourself in that form Kevin, with your own Osmosian powers." She glides over to a chair and plops herself down easily.
Kevin can feel his face scrunch in confusion.
Verdona sighs and leans her head on her hand, "You're Osmosian, that means you absorb energy to redistribute it, yes?" She says slowly in a condescending tone.
"Yeah, so?" Kevin huffs out.
"So, you never redistributed that energy, until now." She tells him.
The room is silent for a few beats and Verdona sighs again.
"You still don't know what that means do you?" She asks him.
"Uh, no, not really." Kevin replies in mild irritation.
"You're going to need to learn how to use your Osmosian powers Kevin, or you can trap yourself like that again. It works very similar to mana, you take what you need and release the same amount back. Equivalent exchange if you will." She responds in exasperation.
"Well kind of didn't get to practice much considering…" Kevin replies harshly.
Verdona stands and places her hands on Kevin's shoulder, "You have to now. Everything you've been able to do before is gone. You need to find out how to use these powers, the ones you were born with. I can help you with that, it's quite similar to how mana works." She tells him in a much gentler tone.
Kevin nods his head in agreement.
"Okay then!" her voice pitches higher and she smacks Kevin's back with a haughty laugh.
"You might want to see my granddaughter sometime soon! I'm sure she'll be thrilled to see you did this yourself." She sends Kevin a wink and leaves the room.
Kevin feels his face pale and he swallows hard. He looks at himself again in the mirror.
Her heels are pounding into the stone floor as she skids around a corner, her skirts flying up behind her and she curses under her breath.
She's running late.
Gwen's hair is falling in her face and she brushes the short locks back and she continues to run. She's passing and stumbling into Plumbers on her way and she rushes out apologies as she continues past them.
The castle is still in some disarray and rubble seems to be almost everywhere. No one expected complete clean up in a week.
Gwen ducks her head to avoid one of the large pillars being craned over her and she pushes past the open hall towards Kevin's office.
"Gwen! Kevin's been looking for you!" She hears Ben's voice call out to her.
She turns her head to see him and Rook carrying supplies to help rebuild and she finds Ken with them operating a crane.
Ken's decided to stay at the castle and the Plumbers offered him a job as a technician and mechanic. Ironically enough what he wanted to begin with.
Ben and Rook have essentially been babysitting him when Gwen's not around, but she thinks Ken likes the company. He's trying to apologize for his actions, but they all know it was a mixture of things that lead to the choices he made. He just needs to work and put effort into rebuilding what he helped destroy.
She pauses for a second in her rush to respond to Ben, "Yes I know that Benjamin! Where do you think I'm going?" she rolls her eyes at him.
"I'm just relaying the message! Not my fault you can't keep your appointments!" Ben shouts at her in mock insult.
"Don't push me today!" She mutters in irritation and continues on her way.
She tries to take her normal path to Kevin's office but realizes too late that construction materials block her way.
Gwen groans out in irritation and almost just moves the material with her mana. She takes a deep breath and redirects herself. She'll just go around.
When Gwen finally shows up to Kevin's office she's almost an hour late from when they said they would meet up. She hopes Kevin's not irritated but she knows how busy he is right now. They haven't had a lot of time to spend together in the past few weeks. Just as much as he's been busy Gwen's also had plenty of responsibilities in helping fix the castle amongst other things.
Gwen takes a deep breath and knocks before opening the door.
"Sorry I'm late Kevin, they needed help in the library and apparently that took a lot longer than I thought-" Gwen pauses in her apology and gawks at the man who's in Kevin's office.
The man sitting at Kevin's desk is considerably pale, and his black hair is pulled back into a pony tail. His eyes shift from to paper he's reading up to acknowledge her and her breath catches in her throat. His eyes are solid black and they seem to pierce through her.
He stands from the desk and moves in front of it, leans his weight onto the table. He's wearing some of the basic black work out armor that the Plumbers have laying around everywhere. It clings to his body, emphasizing his muscles. He crosses his arms over his chest and smirks at her.
"You're late." He tells her.
His voice is low and husky and sends a chill down her spine.
Gwen just stands there and blinks at the man before her brain starts working again.
"Kevin?" She asks quietly.
His face stretches into a large grin, "Took you long enough."
Gwen doesn't think twice before throwing her arms around him and clutching onto him like her life depends on it. His arms wrap around her waist and she fells him cling to her and she's flush against his body.
Her face is shoved into his shoulder and she takes a shaky breath and looks up at him, "How?" she asks softly.
Kevin's own face is pressed into the top of her head and gently kisses her there. "I don't really know. Verdona tried to explain it to me but, I'm still lost if I'm honest."
Gwen pulls back a little to get a better look at him, she smiles softly and grabs his face with her hands.
She's staring at him intensely, and it makes Kevin shift under her. His face is all sharp angles and a chiseled jawline. His nose is large and crooked and the bags under his eyes are definitely discolored.
"You're making me nervous Gwen." He mutters out avoiding eye contact with her.
She giggles softly and gives him a quick peck. "I'm just admiring is all. You're very handsome." She tells him confidently.
She sees Kevin's face flush under her hands and the tips of his ears turn a bright red. She realizes he's skin so pale that any blush will be vibrant in comparison. It might be her new favorite thing.
"Take the compliment Kevin. I always thought you were handsome though." She rolls her eyes and removes her hands from his face. She rests them on his biceps.
Kevin looks at her now, a look of disbelief on his face, he scoffs.
Gwen swats his chest lightly, "Don't scoff at me! I'm being sincere don't ruin it with your self-deprecation." She mutters.
"Sorry, it's gonna take some getting used to." He murmurs and kisses her jaw right under her ear.
She gasps slightly and grips his biceps. His hands move to grip her hips and pull her closer to him. Gwen moves her hands up to loop around his neck.
Kevin chuckles at her response and Gwen can feel his laugh vibrate through her.
"I'm not gonna keep my hands off you now. Or my mouth." Kevin tells her and grins cheekily at her.
"You better keep it under control, or we'll be stuck listening to Ben complain." She tells him in a breathy laugh.
Kevin leans into her and hover over Gwen's mouth, "Small price to pay." He whispers before capturing her lips.
Gwen melts into Kevin's body and clings onto him as they kiss. It's different from their first kiss, which was awkward and hesitant.
Gwen can feel Kevin push himself into her body and his hands roam over her body. He's not afraid of touching her or gripping onto her.
Her own hands reach to run through his hair and grip at the back of his neck.
He groans into her mouth and she loves it, trying to push closer to him, to have his whole body consume her.
A gruff cough separates them.
Gwen jumps but her body doesn't separate from Kevin's, his grip on her is too tight. He rests his forehead against hers and sighs.
She let's out a soft laugh and turns around to look at the intruder.
Ben and Rook are at the door with Max standing right behind them. They all wear varying degrees of smiles on their faces.
"You two are disgusting, and in the office of all places!" Ben says teasingly.
Kevin groans and looks up over Gwen and squeezes her to his chest.
"What do you want? I'm a little busy here." Kevin asks them in a rough voice.
"Partly to harass you and partly to discuss actual business." Max says in a bombing laugh.
"Okay, can we get five minutes alone before we discuss anything serious?" Kevin pleads.
Rook grabs Ben and turns him around easily and presses his hand to Max's back, "I can only promise exactly five minutes with them." Rook replies in a joking tone.
"Thank you Rook Blonko!" Kevin yells out in a drawl as the door closes.
Gwen giggles into Kevin's chest and goes to pry herself off of him.
Kevin pouts at her in disappointment.
"We have all the time in the world Kevin. I'm not going anywhere." She presses a light kiss to his mouth.
He smiles at her and grabs her hand, "I know."
Kevin's looking at her like she lights up the sky and her face flushes. His face is so easy to read now it throws her off.
She feels her chest tighten and she smiles softly back at him. She's overwhelmed with how much she loves him and how proud of him she is. If three people weren't waiting outside for them she'd probably stay here kissing him and holding onto him for hours.
She takes a deep breath and hears the door open. She turns and smiles at the three men coming in.
Gwen knows forever isn't guaranteed, but she thinks that whatever time she has with this group, will come pretty close.
That's it!
