Hello! Satoru Taiyo here, welcome to my first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon fanfiction, I'll try my best. The protagonist becomes not only an Umbreon, but the beta version from the 1997 SpaceWorld demo of Pokémon Gold and Silver.
PS: Umbreon is a poison type in the beta, fun!

Chapter IV: Littleboro Forest
…
…
"So.. you capture Pokémon in that game thingy?". The Sentret looked a bit confused.
"Yeah… the main video game is all about that, sorry". I felt bad, having to explain the main series games to a Pokémon.
"They're not real Pokémon, just… story characters?". Maize asked, she honestly was worried that humans caught Pokémon.
We were talking and walking through a field of flowers, what I thought to be dandelions or something similar were blowing in the early summer air. Er.. it felt like summer, like early June, in northwestern Oregon where I'm from.
"Yeah, I wouldn't do that to you, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon sheds more light on the Pokémon themselves as the playable characters instead of humans, it makes it more likable". I immediately realized I had talked about the Pokémon game I'm currently in.
Maize's ears perked up, she looked surprised for a few seconds before saying something. "you know what a dungeon is?, I.. I'm a story character? Pokémon Mystery Dungeon?".
"Yeah, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is a game, I'm sure this is a real world, you are real, and you can think for yourself". I said. I didn't want to cause any psychological problems for my new friend.
"I don't care about the game, this world is real, it feels real. If it was the game, I'm pretty sure it would be smaller and we'd be digital sprites?". I knew she wouldn't understand, so I wanted to wrap it up. "Also, it's a story in my world, not yours". I felt good about what I said.
"Uh… thank you". The brown sentry Pokémon took a bite from an Oran berry she had in her bag.
"So.. what's it like as a human? What's your world like?", pushed the Sentret, her mouth half full of berries.
"Compared to your life? Mostly boring, although technology makes up for some of it. Paws aren't really able to use my stuff. Addie is great, the two of us live together in our home. I also have a job as a mover".
I stopped walking to explain as I knew she'd ask more.
"Mover? What's that?". She immediately inquired.
"So, I help others move their belongings to and from their homes, and I get paid for it", I explained.
"Oh cool! Oh, and we're getting close to Littleboro Forest.. I'm guessing you know what a mystery dungeon is already, it's 3 floors, the town is on the other side of it and some rocky hills".
Ok, hold up, it's a Forest, how are there stairs?..
"I have no clue how a forest can have floors…".

...
We stood in front of a group of trees, and Maize walked up to it. "We're here, the dungeon is right ahead! Well, I promise I'll get you back to your friend". The Sentret clenched her right paw in determination.
"Uh… I'll follow, I don't know how to use any moves". I straightened my backpack.
"Oh, the ferals are weak here, I can take most of them out with one attack, and this might help you". She pulled out a white bandanna looking cloth, speckling the edges with gray dots.
"Is this a… scarf? What does it do? I know about the things that boost stats and do other things". I curiously stared at the cloth.
Maize nodded, and started tying it around my neck. "It's a Defence scarf Jack, it'll make you take less damage from attacks. I'll get myself another scarf when we get to town.".
"Got it". It suddenly hit me like a brick, I don't now any attacks… "Hey.. I don't know any moves, what do I do?".
"Maybe you can attack with your rings? The dripping stuff must do something". Maize picked up a rock and simply held onto it.
"Ok, I want to use my rings, I want to use my rings…". I focused and put the purple rings at the top of my mind. "I want to attack my enemies with my rings… wait…".
Something foreign came about inside me, knowledge, my ring stuff was poison or something, right?
I felt a buildup of spit in my throat, along with.. something else. It felt denser than the saliva. The areas where my rings were felt quite tingly, I felt as I created more of the poison. I must have poison in my mouth! It was tasteless to me, probably because I made it.
I spat a mix of poison and saliva onto the ground. Apparently nothing happened to the dirt it hit, so my poison must be weak. Oh god, I don't really wanna hurt others with this to be honest. I hope we get through this place quickly.
"Ok, I think I know how to spit poison, it doesn't do much though besides smell bad". I straightened my backpack once more, ready to follow the Sentret through this forest.

…
"C'mon Jack, let's look for the stairs!". I was essentially dragged by the scout Pokémon across the small clearing we entered, and hedges surrounded us like walls.
"I got this rock, it'll come in handy in a moment".
Maize charged into the next open space, and swung the pebble around the corner, I heard a shriek as something was struck by Maize's.. "Geo pebble?".
Looking around the corner, I saw an unconscious Caterpie.
"Oh yeah! That got em!". Maize did a little dance around the Caterpillar as she picked up something shining on the ground nearby it.
"Sweet, Poké!". She pocketed a few coins in her bag.
I ran after her as she went into the next room, purple painting the earth behind me. I saw her standing beside a literal staircase.
"Found it!". She shouted with glee, she leaned on it as I ran over to her.
"Holy shit! A literal stairway in a forest…". I wish I had my phone to photograph this… I walked up it first, I saw a square of reality distort as another forest appeared on the other side . I looked back down the stairs to see Maize walking up and into the new floor.
Littleboro Forest: Floor 2
…
"Isn't this fun?". Maize pulled out another pebble from her bag.
"I guess, this place doesn't obey the laws of physics… I mean, my body doesn't either". I can't believe I saw stairs to another dimension...
"What?". A light breeze blew past us as we continued the trek.
"Never mind". I saw something on the ground. I saw it was an apple, and I quickly bit into it. Yep, a normal apple. It tasted better than I remembered apples being, maybe that's because of this body…
"C'mon! I bet the stairs are nearby!". Maize dashed behind a corner, I heard bashing noises and it turned out that she had come across another Caterpie as well as a Spearow. She was handling both easily.
"Uh..". I was interrupted by something jabbing my right flank. I turned around to find a Spearow staring at me coldly before taking flight. It dove down towards me, and I cursed to myself. I really didn't want to kill anybody, but guess I had to at least knock it out.
I ended up running in circles around it, trying to spit on it with my poison. It was weak, so it might not even do anything, hopefully it doesn't do much… "Darn it, hold still!".
The bird fell to the ground as a pebble hit its head directly. Maize crossed her arms the best she could. "You're slow, but I don't blame you".
"Thanks". My backpack suddenly shifted to one side and I had to readjust it's alignment on my back.
The next room was uneventful, no items. In the l one after that though, I was startled as a green tile popped into existence under my feet.
"Ugh… actually experiencing this in the first person is way different than just playing the game".
"I see the stairs!". Maize sped over to me, and dragged my trudging backside into another room. Like she said, it had stairs. Quickly, we ran up the steps into the next floor.
Littleboro Forest: Floor 3
"This is the last floor, look for the exit!". Maize darted at a Metapod laying on the ground. It didn't do much as she sent it flying with her paw.
"Yeah!". She broke into her usual run, bopping enemies with geo pebbles. In the meantime, I followed, avoiding enemies as I needed to learn attacks first. I walked through a narrow tunnel, which was quite short. Extra light was shining through the other end, meaning there was less trees. I was surprised to see a wide open field.
"Hey! I think I found the exit!". I looked back to see Maize right behind me. "How was your first dungeon tour?". She asked with a smile.
"Well.. it was something, I've never experienced it before". I really needed training before fighting wild Pokémon again.
"I'm glad you liked it, I go through this place almost every day, it's a fun ever changing maze!" Maize stepped in front of me, and looked into the distance. "Anyways… Sunpoint Town isn't far from here, we'll get there very soon".
"That's a relief. I can't wait". The sun was directly overhead as we continued onwards…
