Nope, your eyes aren't deceiving you. I finally was able to update. Although it's MONTHS overdue, I hope you all enjoy it.
Callie's P.O.V.
Walking into Fangz Bar, I immediately spotted my three friends. Mark, Addison, Lexie, and I have been close friends for over a century now. We've literally been to hell and back for each other and I trust them with my life or lack thereof.
Mark and I met just after I had turned for the first time. We were both thrown into a world that we knew nothing about. Although the situations were different, we made a pact to always stick together and figure this thing out. About thirty years later, we met Addison who, at the time, was a rogue vampire that was killing any and everything that had warm blood running through their veins. She convinced Mark and me to join her and the three of us became three fast killing machines, but that's a story for another day. All you need to know is that one day, I realized that a monster is not what I wanted to be, so I decided to change. Mark felt the same way. When I tried to convince Addison about it, she… well she killed me. Snapped my neck like it was just another day going by. She took off into the night, but a few days later, she found Mark and me, apologizing and saying that she thought it over and wanted to be better. We've been besties ever since.
As for Lexie, we found her one night in an alley in Tennessee. Some asshole had raped and beaten her. She was slowly dying right there on the pavement and I couldn't let that happen. Of course, Addie wanted to make a meal out of her but when I leaned down beside her, I saw something in her barely open eyes. It was at that moment that I decided to turn her, and the rest is history. At first, she was scared and wasn't too happy about the whole thing, but she has really grown into her own over the years. Since then, we've had this unbreakable bond that Addie and Mark could never understand unless they ever turned someone themselves.
"Guys, I need your advice," I say walking up to my three friends.
"Torres! Where have you been? We've been waiting for you!" Mark says.
"That's the thing. I have something to tell you guys but before I do, you can't judge me."
"Uh oh," Addie says.
"We're your friends Cal. Whatever it is, we've got your back." Lexie chimes in sporting a warm smile. That is why I love her; she's always been the comforter out of the four of us.
Pulling out a chair, I sit down, sighing "Two weeks ago, I killed Simon Williams for almost killing an innocent woman and possibly others."
"Uh, yeah, we know Cal," Addie says, confused.
"I know that you know that. I was there when I told you" I sneer, "What I didn't tell you guys was that the last woman that I stopped him from attacking…"
"What is it, Cal? I don't know about these two but you're starting to scare me a little" Mark says, worried.
"Oh my god, you like her" Lexie gasps.
Tensing my jaw as two gasps fill the room, "What?! Callie Torres has a crush?! … On a human, at that?" Addison mocks.
"I-I think so" I sigh, "There is something about her. She, she seems different somehow."
"Well, what's she like?" Mark asks
"I don't know… I haven't really talked to her much. I've only seen her around a couple of times when I was making sure that she got home safely"
"Way to be a stalker Cal" Mark laughs.
"I know, I know. I want to say more to her. I tried to when I walked her home but I just couldn't. She doesn't even seem to be that scared of me. This brings me to last night. She was almost attacked again."
"Wow she's just got the words 'Eat me' written on her forehead, doesn't she?" Addison comments.
"I think she was looking for me. She's caught me watching her a few times and every time she comes up to me or heads in my direction, I bolt like some scared teenager. I don't know what to do. I mean, isn't it like against some law for vampires and humans to have feelings for each other?"
"First off, it is so weird seeing you like this. Secondly, no it isn't against the law. It's just… frowned upon."
"Yeah, I actually read in one of the many books back at the manor that once every hundred years, a vampire and human fall in love. It's supposed to mean something."
"Like what?"
"I don't really remember the specifics; I'll see if I can find it when we get home."
"Thanks, Lex" I smile.
"All things aside, I think you should go for it," Mark says, "I mean Cal, I love you, but I can count on my hand the number of times you've actually been laid since we've known each other"
"I wouldn't go that far, but I do think that this could be interesting," Addie shrugs.
"You really think so?" All three of them nod, "Ok." I say looking down at my watch, "I'll see you guys back at the manor."
Arizona's P.O.V.
"Come on Zo, you are riding with us tonight. I've been hearing about the increase in missing people in town and I refuse to let you walk home by yourself tonight." Jo says, watching as I lock up the gallery. Tonight was yet another successful night of young artists making a name for themselves.
Turning from the now secure building, I roll my eyes, "Jo-"
"No." she cuts me off, "You are my big sister and I would not be able to forgive myself if something happened to you now get in the damn car." She says, closing the car door signaling the end of the conversation. Glancing at Alex, he shrugs, opening the passenger door for me.
I suppose I should be grateful for a sister like Jo. I mean, we aren't blood-related but at this point, blood couldn't make us any closer. You see, my parents adopted Jo when she was two years old and I was six. I had always wanted a sibling and my parents always wanted more than one child. When I first met her, it was like an instant connection and every since then, we have a been really close and protective of each other but right now, I could strangle her.
Sighing to myself, I walk toward the vehicle, getting in. Looking up, I see Alex looking around the area with a slight frown on his face.
"Everything ok Alex?" I ask him.
"Uh, yeah," he says, finally looking back to me, smiling.
"Then close the door would ya," I say chuckling, shrugging off his weirdness as he mumbles 'oh, right' to himself.
As he gets in the car and we pull off, I can't help but think about a certain vampire. Our encounter two nights ago has been fresh in my mind. Sadly, I haven't seen her since then which is really disappointing because I want to have more of a conversation with her. Somehow though, I know she isn't too far away because I still have that feeling of being watched.
Before I know it, minutes have gone by and we are slowing down in front of my house. Grabbing my bag, I open the door, "Thank you for the ride, even though it was against my will" I half-joke.
"Zo I just want you to be safe, ok? Promise me that you'll drive to work for the next couple of days until the police can get a handle on things. Please?" she pulls out the puppy dog face, "I'll even come to pick you up if you want me to"
"No, no that won't be necessary. For you, I will drive but the minute that things clear up, I am going back to walking. I refuse to waste unnecessary gas, plus its great exercise" I tell her, exiting the vehicle to the sound of her laugher.
"Get home safely," I tell them both as they wave before pulling off.
Walking up the steps to the front door, I stop, turning to look out into the darkness. 'Please let this work.' I think to myself, releasing the breath that I was unknowingly holding in.
"Y-You can come out, ya know?" I say out loud, "I don't bite" I continue chuckling before shaking my head at myself. 'Come on Arizona, get it together.'
A minute passes, nothing. "Please, I just want to talk," I say, trying again. After waiting another minute, I sigh, turning to unlock my door. I guess that the feeling that I have been having is nothing more than that, a feeling.
Just as I get the door open and pick up my foot to step in, a voice rings out behind me. "How did you know that I was here?"
Whipping around, I can't help but smile at the brunette who is now standing at the bottom of the steps.
"I didn't, really. I've just had this weird feeling since I met you and I just took a leap of faith and silently hoped that I wasn't crazy" I tell her, and she chuckles.
"Well, here I am. What did you want to talk about?"
Sitting down on the steps, I pat the empty space beside me silently asking her to sit but she just stares at me, not moving. Sighing, I begin talking, "I want to talk about you. About what you are …"
"I told you what I am."
"Yeah, but you didn't go into any detail whatsoever. What does a halfling mean? How'd you become one? How old are you? Things like that."
"I don't know you, and you don't know me."
"Yet, I want to know everything about you." I shrug.
Tensing her jaw, she walks closer, "I am a halfling."
"Yeah, you said that…" I say in a knowing tone.
Leaning against the railing of the steps, she looks up to me, "A halfling is someone who is, both, a vampire and human."
"Really?" I ask, eyes widening at her words.
"Yes"
"And how old are you?"
"Why does that matter?" she smirks.
"I'd just like to know"
"Just because you'd like to know doesn't mean that I have to tell you"
"You also didn't have to tell me what a halfling was but you did that," I say in a know-it-all tone and before I know it, she moves toward me at an unhuman-like speed, only mere inches away, eyes bloodshot.
"Boy do you have a smart mouth" she growls
"And you have a temper," I say slowly, backing away to create some distance between us.
Staring at me in silence, Callie doesn't move one muscle causing me to become a bit nervous. "I-I'm sorry" I finally say. "I didn't mean to make you angry."
"Oh, trust me, you haven't seen me angry. I just suddenly remembered how… hungry I was."
"Ok, point taken. I took our little back and forth game a little too far." I say, silently extending an olive branch.
She doesn't say anything though, just goes back to silently staring at me as her eyes slowly fade back to their original brown color. "Y-you are something else" she laughs, shaking her head.
Breathing, a slight sigh of relief, I smile.
"I scared you for a second there didn't I?" she asks
"U-uh" I stumble over my words.
"There's no bother trying to lie like I didn't, you know with me being able to hear how quickly your heart is beating and all" she shrugs, looking up and pulling a twig from the tree branch above her as we sit in a moment of silence.
"164"
"W-What?" I ask.
"You asked my age. 164" she says, my mouth falling wide open.
"Not what you were expecting?" she smirks.
"B-But that would mean that you were around…" my words trail off.
"Whatever you're going to say, the answer is probably yes. I've seen a lot of things Arizona."
"Wow…" I say slowly processing this as she finally sits down beside me. "Can I at least say that you look good for your age?" I ask, smiling, and for the first time, a genuine laugh escapes her lips.
"Yes, I am aware that I still appear to be 26 years old."
"You were only 26 when you were turned?" I ask, trying to pry a little more information out of her.
She shakes her head, "I wasn't exactly turned. I was born a halfling. I just stopped aging when I turned 26."
"Oooh, is it too much to ask how it happened?"
"It is but I'll tell you anyway." Callie smiles, finally moving to take a seat beside me.
"My father is a vampire. Like, an original. He's been alive since 1534. Long story short, he met my mom somewhere around 1843 and they fell in love. My mom is a witch. They knew that because my dad was a vampire, he couldn't get her pregnant so she performed a spell that would last for a night to help and it worked. She became pregnant with me, but the thing is that they didn't realize that I'd be half-human, half-vampire. My mother died giving birth to me or so they told me."
"They?"
"My mom and dad"
"But you just said-"
"Oh," she chuckles, "my mom died but my dad was able to bring her back as a vampire."
Nodding my head, now understanding, I ask, "Does that mean that you can eat human food?"
"Yes. I can eat regular food but I have to drink blood to stay alive."
"Wow, those nights that I was almost attacked. I saw a flash of fear in their eyes. Why are vampires so afraid of you?"
"That's where it gets a bit complicated. I um, as I said, my dad is an original vampire. That's a story for another time but because I am his biological daughter… let's just say that it makes me pretty strong. For lack of a better term."
"Oh..."
"Why aren't you that afraid of me?"
"Mostly because you've saved me twice now and unless this is some sort of messed up way for you to get me to trust you before killing me, I don't think that you want to hurt me."
"You'd be correct. Plus, if I really wanted to hurt you, I'd just use compulsion on you."
"T-That's a real thing?"
"Yep."
"How come you're not trying to kill me… or at least drink from me?"
"Although your blood smells divine, that's not what I want." she says, turning to look me in the eyes, "There's something about you. For some reason, I feel drawn to y-"
"You feel it too?"
"Too? You feel it?"
"Yes. I thought that I was the only one that felt it."
"No you're definitely not the only one..." she trails off, looking out into the darkness.
Feeling the cool air brush up against my legs, I shiver, "It's getting a bit chilly out here, how about we go inside?"
"You'd- you'd invite me into your home?"
"Yes."
"You're too trusting," Callie says.
"No, you just said that you wouldn't hurt me."
"Maybe I was lying."
"You weren't."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because something tells me that you aren't the patient type. If you wanted to harm me, you would have done it by now and at the very least, compelled me to forget about it."
"Point taken" Callie laughs, standing, holding out her hand for the blonde to take.
Helping me up off of the ground, I invite Callie in.
"Sit wherever you'd like," I tell her, gesturing to the living room.
"Would you like something to drink?" I ask, heading into the kitchen
"No thanks," she says.
Quickly grabbing a bottle of water, I head into the living room, finding her staring at a picture of Teddy, Jo, Alex, my parents, and me.
"Is this your family?" she asks.
"Yep," I say, pointing to each person in the picture, "That's my mom and dad, my best friend that lives here with me, Teddy, and my sister Jo and her boyfriend Alex who also happens to be one of my close friends."
"Hm..." is all she says in return, eyes not once straying from the picture.
"What's wrong?" I ask her.
"N-Nothing" she shakes her head, turning to look at me.
"Would you like to sit?" I ask.
"Sure," she says, moving over to the couch.
"So, tell me about you," Callie says.
"What do you want to know?"
"Well, I already know that you have a sibling and own an art gallery. Tell me what you like to do?"
And just like that, we continue talking and laughing, and for a second, I forget that if she wanted to, she could kill me in less than three seconds… with her teeth.
Glancing down at my watch I see that it is about to be 4 o'clock in the morning. "Wow, it is really late," I say, yawning.
Frowning, Callie, looks at her phone for the time, "Oh wow, I didn't realize it was that late. I should probably get going huh?"
"Yeah probably. I should at least get a little sleep before I have to be back at work." I tell her as we both stand.
Walking her to the door, she turns to look at me, "I'll um- I'll see you later? Maybe I could walk you from work this evening?"
Smiling, I nod, "That would be great."
"Good night, or maybe I should say, Good morning Arizona"
"Good morning Callie" I smile, watching as she exits my house.
I can't believe that just happened. I just sat and had a great conversation with a vampire- oh wait, I'm sorry, a halfling. Maybe, just maybe, this could go somewhere?
So there was some more Calzona interaction. Things will hopefully pick up from here. I have the outline for this story written out but if there's something you want to see happen LMK and I'll do my best to work it in somewhere
