At the local diner at Nick's request, the 4 friends sat in the end cubicle. Fin sat himself beside Olivia, which left Nick to sit beside Amanda. After ordering their food they sat about talking about general how are you's, general catch ups and sharing photos of Fin's grandson and Nick's kids. When the food arrived, talk moved to Nick and his plans for the next week or so. So, have you any meetings this afternoon? asked Olivia. No, I'm off to pick up a car so I can get about easier he said. Actually; I was going to speak to you about that, uh-oh said Fin, and Amanda sniggered. Never mind these 2 said Olivia, I was thinking if you were still working about picking Noah up from school and taking him out for a bit? Olivia broke out a huge grin, of course she said, I'll phone the school and tell them you'll be there, but I'll tell them not to tell Noah. Nick smiled, great he smiled, I'm looking forward to seeing him. Oh, he's more than looking forward to seeing you Nick she said. He better not cry like you two though he joked. Amanda hit him, hey you she said, I'll make you cry if you keep that up. Oh, back to the old days teased Fin and Olivia laughed. Amanda gave Fin a look, oh Fin said Olivia, I haven't saw that look in what…. 6 years. Amanda looked at Olivia, thanks Liv, oh said Fin I haven't saw that in about 6 years too he laughed. Aww leave her be said Nick as he nudged Amanda. Lunch finished they walked back to the station where Nick said his goodbyes. A kiss and hug for Olivia as he said, I'll see you later on when I drop Noah home, yes, she said, and Lucy says thanks for the afternoon off. Anytime I can help he joked. A hug for Fin and a see you later on for a few drinks at Nicks to watch the basketball game. Then he turned to Amanda and smiled, as he hugged her and kissed her head he said, and I'll see you and the 2 little ladies tomorrow? Absolutely she said smiling as she let go of him, seeing as I've a car maybe we can head out to a park or something. Sure, she nodded, we'll be ready. At that they all said goodbye once again and headed their various ways.
Back in the squad room Kat was already there, hey guys she said cheerily, you have a good catch up with Nick? Yeah, said Fin, just like old times he said. How about you? said Amanda, everything OK? Oh yeah Kat smiled, my cousin is in town and had a spare hour free so wanted to try and catch up. It was nice to see her again.
For the next few hours they carried on working the case, which they were able to close by end of day.
Nick parked his car in the school car park and walked to where Olivia had told him to go. 10minutes later he heard his name being shouted all over the playground. He chuckled as he saw Noah running towards him and almost rugby tackle him to the ground. Hey buddy he said laughing, how are you? I'm great said Noah excitedly. I didn't know you were picking me up today. Nick laughed, well I thought I'd surprise you buddy he said and hugged him again. Come on, let's go. Where are we going? asked Noah. Well, I thought we'd go for a snack if you want. Yeah, sounds good. Ok, you pick what you want and we'll go.
A couple of hours later and lots of chatting from the excited boy Nick felt tired. Ok time to drop you off home to your mum. Noah groaned, Aww, hey don't worry mate, we can do this again next week if you want. I'll talk to your mum and sort something out. Yeah said Noah. I can't wait. They arrived at Olivia's apartment and Noah had calmed down a bit thankfully. Hey you two beamed Olivia when she opened the door, did you like your surprise? I loved it thanks mum said Noah, and he ran off to put his stuff in his room. Olivia looked at Nick, was he OK? Yeah he was said Nick, he's no bother at all. He's calmed down now he chuckled. You look tired she said to him. He smiled a tired smile and sighed, yeah, he said wearily, Jet lag is catching up I think he said. What time is Fin calling by at she asked? Ermm about 7 he said. I'm going to head back now and get some sleep before he comes over. She smiled and hugged him, thanks for having Noah today. I enjoyed every minute he smiled; Have you spoke to Lucy about next week? No I haven't she replied, Amanda said she will take him overnight. She's got a few days booked off next week. Oh, he said, is she sure? Olivia laughed, yeah, I asked her that too, she's more than happy to take him. He stayed quiet nodding. Everything ok Nick? Huh? oh yeah, he said smiling, I was just thinking. Do you think Lucy would mind minding the two girls one-night next week? Olivia smiled; she doesn't have to. Pick your night and I'll take the girls overnight. Oh no I didn't mean overnight he said quickly, Olivia laughed, I know you didn't, but I haven't had them stay over for a while now, so it'll be nice to have them. Pick a night for you to take her out and I'll book the next day off work. No, don't do that said Nick…. No honestly Nick, you two need to catch up properly, and not on the phone she added quickly. Plus, it'll do Amanda some good she said. She doesn't get out very often, and she needs a break. Nick smiled, are you sure? he asked again. Yes, she said. Now, off you go and get some shut eye before Fin arrives. And have fun with Amanda and the girls tomorrow. She called for Noah to come say goodbye, aww do you have to go? Yes, he does said Olivia, Uncle Fin is going to visit him tonight and before you ask, he's going to meet Jesse and Billie tomorrow. Oh, said Noah, OK then he said. Tell Jesse I said Hi. Nick smiled, I will buddy, Hey I'll call by on Sunday and we can do something. Yeah, great he said. Nick said his goodbye's and left.
