A.N: Hey everybody! I'm back! Sorry about missing last week, I had a huge paper to finish (yuck) But anyways, welcome back to the story! In the last chapter we saw some of our favorite Masks take to the stage and perform in front of a club full of friends and fans. Butterfly, Black Widow, and Ladybug sang their hearts out and got an offer from a big record label. Towards the end of the night, Peacock surprised everyone with a last-second performance which caught the attention of a certain flamingo, rendering her completely smitten.
So, this chapter is solely going to be a Monster x Miss Monster chapter! (yay!) They're going to be planning their wedding! (double yay!) How will that go? Find out now!
A couple of weeks zipped by for the town of Maskglen. Before anyone knew it, September was out and October was in. The middle of Fall was fast approaching. The leaves had already begun to change their colors from green to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
Miss Monster squinted in her sleep as beams of sunlight hit her face. She slowly opened her baby blue eye, blinking a few times to let it adjust. The little lines of light were streaming through the blinds covering the window of her and Monster's room.
The pink monster let out a tired sigh and let her eye lazily shut again before rolling on her left side. She felt around for her aqua-colored fiancé, but was surprised to find that his side of the bed was empty. The blankets were messy and wrinkled indicating that he had been there, but the feeling of his warmth was long gone.
Miss Monster sat up confused. 'Where is he?' She thought to herself, but she was broken out of her thoughts when the smell of bacon suddenly hit her nose.
She threw her blankets aside and pulled on her blue robe that matched the color of her eye. Miss Monster quietly headed down the stairs and followed the smell to the kitchen. She smiled as soon as she entered.
Monster was positioned at the stove, spatula in hand. He poked and prodded at the strips of bacon with the spatula eliciting a satisfying sizzle from them.
"You made breakfast?" Miss Monster spoke up,
Monster jumped a little startled but then turned to see his fiancée leaning against the doorway. He smiled sweetly.
"Uh, yeah...I figured I'd surprise you this morning." He replied,
Miss Monster walked over to Monster and placed a kiss on his cheek. Had she been wearing lipstick, it would have left a huge pink lip-shaped stain on his aqua fur.
"You even made extra bacon." Missy pointed out,
"Because I remembered it's your favorite." Monster replied with a smirk,
"Thanks, babe. You're the best." Miss Monster took a seat at their kitchen table patiently awaiting her food.
Monster carefully removed the bacon from the pan and distributed them onto two plates that also had some scrambled eggs as well as two glasses of orange juice. He took the plates to the table and set one down in front of Miss Monster before sitting down with his own plate across from her.
The couple ate in silence. Neither really knew what to say to the other, so they opted to just enjoy the peace of the morning. After a short while, Monster noticed that Miss Monster was eating a little quicker than normal.
"Missy? You okay? You're eating awfully fast." He pointed out,
Miss Monster smiled at her beau. "I'm fine, honey. I just saw the time. It's 8:00."
Monster shrugged, "So?"
Missy downed the rest of her breakfast and wiped her face with her napkin. "I actually have to meet with the wedding planner today. She's going to help me check some things off of our wedding To-Do List.
"What things exactly?" Monster asked quirking his brow,
"I'm meeting with her to pick our venue and rent it out, then we're going to find a good caterer and decide what food and cake we want, and then we're seeing my dress-maker to start designing my wedding gown." Missy said,
"Can I see what you're planning for your dress?" Monster asked curiously,
"No, it's bad luck." Missy jokingly replied,
Monster laughed heartily. He stood up from the table and carried their dishes to the sink. "Well, in that case, I should at least accompany you for the first two parts of the appointment."
Missy smiled as she took his hand. "Alright. Come on then. We haven't got a moment to lose!"
The two monsters quickly got ready to head out for the day. Monster combed his fur while Missy primped and applied her makeup in the mirror. The two hopped into Monster's car and headed to their planner. The wedding planner was none other than Unicorn who owned a very successful wedding planning business in town. Over The Rainbow Weddings she called it. A little cheesy, but neither of them minded all that much.
The lovely couple walked into the small office space looking around. Although it was officially open, the place was empty as it was still pretty early in the morning. The walls were lined with different photos taken from other couples' weddings; in each one they were all smiling and super happy. They only hoped that their wedding would be the same way.
Miss Monster called out, "Hello? Anybody here?"
Suddenly a door at the back of the room opened and out stepped Unicorn. Her white mane was done up in a bun and instead of wearing her long flowing gown, she just had on a simple white knee-length dress with matching stockings and boots.
Her eyes widened as soon as she saw the two monsters. "Missy!" She yelled happily,
Miss Monster yelled back, "Unicorn!" The pastel monster ran over to the magical horse and threw her arms around her in a hug.
"It's been so long, Missy!" Unicorn said,
"I know. It has." Miss Monster nodded,
They separated from the hug. Unicorn's eyes then went to Monster.
"Monster! It's so great to see you too!" She said, she also gave him a tight hug.
Monster chuckled as he hugged her back. "You too, Unicorn."
After they parted, the magical white horse cleared her throat. "So, I take it you're here to start planning your wedding?" She asked,
The couple nodded, "Yes we are, and we're very excited for it. Your weddings are the toast of all of Maskglen. We very much appreciate this." Monster said,
"It's no problem." Unicorn said, she clapped her hands together. "Okay, so let's hop to it." She led them to her office at the back of the building. Unicorn sat at her desk while Monster and Miss Monster each took a seat in the chairs facing her.
"Okay so, before we talk about the wedding venue, we should probably discuss the issue of the guest list first. Who exactly do you want at this wedding? Is it going to be a large wedding or something smaller?" She asked,
"Well, of course we want all of our family there. Like, our parents and our siblings." Miss Monster said,
"Yeah, everyone in our families. Except for my grandfather." Monster said,
Both Miss Monster and Unicorn looked at him confused.
"Your grandfather? I didn't know you had a living grandparent." Miss Monster said,
"You've never met him." Monster replied,
"But..Shouldn't we add him to the guest list? I'm sure he'd want to come." Miss Monster said,
Monster sighed, "He lives all the way across the country in Los Angeles. Besides, I haven't seen him since my first year of college; that was six years ago. Trust me, I don't think he wants to come to the wedding."
There was an awkward silence between the three.
Finally Unicorn wrote that down. "Okay then…" She said, "Anyone else?"
"All of my friends too." Miss Monster said, she began to name them off. "Kitty, Night Angel, Black Widow, Flamingo, Butterfly, Lamby…"
"Who's Lamby?" Unicorn asked,
"She's new in town. We hardly know her, but I like her. She's sweet and has a lot of spunk." Missy replied,
Monster nodded, "Lamby definitely. My friends are Thingamajig, Whatchamacallit, Robot, Chameleon, White Tiger, Baby Alien, and Hippo to name a few."
"There are more than that. We'll send you a full guest list later." Missy said,
Unicorn nodded, "Got it. Now let's move on to the venue. So, have you decided on where we should have the wedding?" Unicorn asked,
Miss Monster shook her head. "No, but we're desperate to find something!"
Monster looked at her confused, "Darling, we have until spring. Are we really in that big of a rush?" He asked,
"Well, it's just never too early to start planning." Miss Monster replied with a shrug,
"Do you have any places in mind?" Unicorn asked again,
The pastel pink monster thought hard about it. "I'm not too sure. Have you thought of anything, dear?" She looked at her future husband.
"I was thinking maybe we could have it at the beach? I mean, that's where we got engaged, after all." Monster said,
Miss Monster hummed. "Hmm...A beach wedding does sound nice. But don't you think that's a little cliché? A lot of people around here do beach weddings"
Monster nodded, "Yeah, you're not wrong." He thought again, "Maybe we could get married at the country club. My friend, Robot, is a member there. Maybe he could hook us up."
"I suppose, but this is our wedding day. It needs to be significant to us." Miss Monster said,
"Well, you do have other options." Unicorn said, "You could have your wedding at a banquet hall, or perhaps a ballroom?" She suggested, "Every couple is different, and no wedding I have ever planned is exactly the same. It all depends on you."
"Ah well, I'm sure we'll think of something." Monster shrugged,
Unicorn nodded, then she stood up. "How about we hold off on choosing the venue? We'll come back to it later. Perhaps now's a good time to go scout out some caterers and see what we like?"
They stood up too. "Yes, let's." Miss Monster said, they headed out of the office building to Monster's car. They all climbed in and took off.
They drove around for an hour or two and checked out many different locations. Sadly, none of them seemed to have what they were looking for. But then they went to the final potential caterer. It was a really high-end catering business located near the center of town. It was called Tinsel Treats and was run by Tree. Aside from Bee, Tree had some of the best food and wine in town.
The trio walked into the place taking a moment to admire all of the glimmering lights strung up everywhere. They were in awe.
A shiny silver and purple Tree immediately greeted them with open arms. "Hello! Welcome to Tinsel Treats where our food is 'guaranteed to make any event merry and bright!' I'm Tree Evergreen, how may I help you?"
"We're looking for someone to cater our wedding." Monster said,
"Oh congratulations." Tree said cheerfully,
"Thank you." Miss Monster blushed, taking Monster's hand in hers which made him smile too.
"I did some research and saw that your place has great reviews, so we came to check it out." Unicorn added,
"Of course! Come, let's talk." Tree gestured them to her office and they all sat down. To Monster and Miss Monster, it was very reminiscent of when they met with Unicorn earlier.
"Okay, when deciding what food to have at an event, it all comes down to the theme. What is the theme of your wedding going to be?" Tree asked,
"Something simple." Monster said,
"But elegant." Miss Monster interrupted almost a little too quickly.
Monster gave her a funny look.
"Ooh, a simple white wedding! I like that. There's a lot you can do with that." Tree gushed, she pulled out a clipboard and one of the menus from one of her desk drawers. She handed them the menu and clicked the pen. "So, I was thinking that for a starter we could go with a classic salad. Sound good?"
The couple looked at each other smiling and nodded.
"Great! What kind of dressing would you like?" Tree asked,
Monster spoke up. "Caesar dressing is fine."
Miss Monster cut in. "Actually I think I would prefer for us to have a lemon vinaigrette for the salad." She said politely,
"Why?" Monster asked confused, "We've never had that before."
"Because it's so much more elegant." Miss Monster replied,
"But we always do Caesar dressing on salad." Monster pointed out, "That's kind of our thing."
"Well this is a wedding. It's special. Time to try something new." Miss Monster replied,
"Okay, what kind of entree do you want? We have ham, turkey, chicken, roast beef?"
The engaged couple were quick to speak. They spoke at the exact same time.
"Turkey." Monster said,
"Ham." Miss Monster said,
They looked at each other confused. Unicorn sighed and pinched her temple.
"How about we compromise with roast beef?" Tree suggested,
Both monsters smiled and nodded.
"Now for the most important part: The wedding cake." Tree said,
"Well, I think we're going to have a classic angel food cake for our wedding." Miss Monster said,
"I was hoping for more of a yellow cake. But sure." Monster simply replied,
"No, dear. Not for a wedding. We're having an angel food cake." Miss Monster stated,
"Okay then…" Tree grabbed a calculator and calculated the cost. "For me to fully cater this wedding, here's what the cost is going to be…" She handed them the calculator and they both saw the cost. Missy smiled while Monster's magenta eye widened.
"Sounds good to me! Monster?" Miss Monster looked at her beau.
"Missy, you can't be serious! $3,000!? We can't afford that!" Monster yelled,
Miss Monster gave her fiancé an odd look. "Sure we can."
"No, we can't just drop $3,000 like it's nothing. We need to discuss this." Monster retaliated,
"There's nothing to discuss. We have extra money in our account." Miss Monster pointed out,
"Yeah, but I was hoping that we could save that money for something important." Monster said,
"Monster, this is our wedding! That's very important!" Missy retaliated,
"No! I meant for like, when we decide to have a kid or something!"
"But Monster, it's not like we were going to have a kid right away." Missy said,
"Well I was kind of hoping that we were." Monster replied,
Miss Monster's one blue eye widened. "What!? How come you never said anything!? That is something that definitely needs to be discussed!"
As they were debating, Tree looked on with confusion and concern.
Unicorn also just sat there watching and could easily tell things were getting ugly. She flashed Tree an apologetic smile and thanked her for her time before escorting the two of them out of the building. The three of them were silent as they drove back to the building where Unicorn's business was. When they got out of the car, Unicorn blew up.
"What is wrong with you two!? Why are you guys fighting all of a sudden!?" She yelled,
"Because I didn't know my fiancé was such a cheapskate!" Miss Monster snapped,
"Because I didn't know my fiancée wants to be so high maintenance for our wedding!" Monster fired back,
Miss Monster pinched her temple and took a deep breath. "Look, we'll talk about this later. Unicorn and I have to meet with my dress designer now." Both she and Unicorn walked to Unicorn's car.
"Wait! I want to come too!" Monster called after them,
"No, Monster. I already told you, it's bad luck to see a bride's dress before the wedding." Miss Monster said,
"Oh come on! That's just a silly superstition! It's not real! I wanna see the dress!" Monster pleaded,
"I said no and it's no!" Miss Monster snapped,
Monster scoffed, "I can't believe you! Who knew you were such a control freak!"
Miss Monster's eye widened when he said that. "I am not a control freak!"
Monster glared at her. "Ever since we started planning this wedding, you've hijacked everything! You want everything to be done either your way or absolutely perfect! You seem to have forgotten that marriage is a partnership! You never asked about how I feel! You've become too controlling. You know, I don't think I can marry someone like that!"
Miss Monster's pupil had shrunken when those last words reached her ears. Tears began to well up in her one eye. Suddenly she glared right back at him.
"Well maybe I don't want to marry you, either!" She took her engagement off of her finger and handed it to him before storming off.
Both Monster and Unicorn stood there in shock. The cyan beast realized that he had crossed the line. He had totally broken Miss Monster's heart. Sure, she had been a little controlling, but he shouldn't have lashed out at her like that. Finally Monster let out a defeated sigh. He turned and began walking to his car.
Unicorn stopped him. "Monster, you have to go after her."
Monster looked at the magical horse forlornly. He then looked down at the diamond ring in his hand. "I know…" He got into his car and drove off looking for his beloved.
Monster drove all around town looking for Miss Monster. The cyan behemoth was desperate. He felt terrible about the awful fight they had and wanted to apologize to her so badly. He searched high and low for her; every street, every corner, he checked every single place where he thought she would be. He even checked their own home. But she was nowhere to be found.
Monster felt crushed. He parked his car on the curb near Maskglen Park. It was a large and beautiful park that rested in the center of Maskglen. There were trees, a pond, gazebo, and even a romantic flower garden that people often liked to walk through. This place meant a lot to Monster, because this was the place where he and Miss Monster first met.
Monster got out of his car and began to walk along one of the many pathways. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jacket and walked with his head hung low.
"It's hopeless. I can't find her anywhere…" He muttered to himself, "Honestly though, I deserve it. I treated her terribly…I don't deserve to have her as my fiancée…" He sighed, "I wish I could let her know how sorry I am…"
It didn't take long for Monster to get what he wanted. He looked up and his one eye widened.
There Miss Monster was; not even ten feet from him. She was sitting on a bench crying to herself. Monster felt like he was having deja vu. The images from when they met flashed through his mind. He silently gulped before working up enough courage to walk over.
He approached the bench. "Missy?" He said,
Miss Monster looked up at him startled before she realized it was her now ex-fiancé.
"Monster…" She said, her blue eye brightened for a moment at the sight of him. But then she remembered their fight and quickly acted like she didn't care to see him.
"I mean uh," she cleared her throat. "What do you want?" She said blankly,
"Missy, I wanted to say I'm sorry. I never meant those horrible things I said to you." Monster said, "I love you, more than anyone else in the world. And I still want to marry you. Do you think you could ever forgive me?"
Miss Monster looked at Monster surprised. She was very touched by his apology, but she wasn't sure if she should forgive him. She was also ashamed about how she acted and thought she didn't deserve him either. She didn't say anything, however, and just turned her back to him.
Monster sighed as he slouched back against the bench. He fiddled with the diamond ring and chuckled to himself. "Heh, you know, this is the very spot where we met two years ago."
Miss Monster didn't say anything.
Monster smiled as he looked back on that memory. "Yeah, I remember it like it was yesterday. It was on a night much like this one…"
Two Years Ago:
It was a cool October night in Maskglen. The seasons were changing ever so slowly. The warmth of the Summer was fading into the crispness of Fall.
Monster was taking a casual evening stroll through the park all alone. He wandered along the long and winding trail with his hands in the pockets of his jacket. He didn't usually go for walks like this, but he had a stressful day at work and felt he needed to get some fresh air and clear his head.
But he was broken out of his thoughts by the sound of sobbing. They were relatively close by. Now feeling curious, Monster followed the sound of the soft cries until he found the source.
Another monster was sitting upon a bench crying their eyes out. He could tell she was a woman judging by the large blue bow on her head.
Monster felt pity, so he decided to go over and see if there was anything he could do to help. He approached the crying female monster and gently tapped her shoulder.
"Uh…Excuse me, ma'am," He started,
The woman looked up. Her large baby blue eye was red and welled up with tears. Mascara ran in huge streaks down her face and her large, luscious lips were quivering.
Monster was taken aback. She was the most beautiful monster that he had ever laid his eye on. Sure, she may had been crying a lot and her makeup was a mess, but to him that did not matter. She was beautiful.
Monster was obviously smitten by this female, but he chose to focus on the task at hand. "Uh...A-Are you okay?"
The female monster hesitated but slowly nodded. "I'm fine." She said,
"Care to tell me what's got you so upset?" Monster asked politely,
The pink monster sniffled as she pulled some tissues out of her purse. "W-Well, I'm new in town. I came here to try and start a singing career. I got offered by a label to come down and show them what I've got…" She sniffled again before blowing into her tissue. "But...I went to that label today, and th-they said I wasn't good."
Monster's jaw dropped. "Not good? How come?"
The other monster dabbed her face to fix her makeup and sighed, "I don't know, they just said my voice isn't that good. That I'm 'not what they were looking for'." She sighed again, "I don't know what I'm going to do…"
Monster felt for the woman, he really did. He had had instances in the past where people told him he couldn't sing either. He wanted to help her somehow. Then he suddenly got an idea.
"Hey, maybe I could be of assistance." He said,
The lady looked up at him confused, "Really? How so?"
Monster took a seat next to her. "Well, it just so happens that I own a small recording studio here in town." He said,
Her eye widened in surprise. "You do?"
Monster nodded, "Yep, and that label that you went to isn't the only one around these parts. I have connections. How about you come to my studio, record a demo, and I'll work some of that music industry magic. With my help I think I could get you signed. If none of them take you, then I'll sign you and take you under my wing myself."
"You would really do that for me?" The pastel monster asked astonished,
"Of course. I think everyone who loves to sing should have a chance to share their voice." Monster replied,
The lady monster smiled as she wiped her eyes again. "Th..Thank you. You don't know what this means to me."
"Don't worry about it." Monster said, "By the way, I never got your name."
"I'm Miss Monster, but you can just call me Missy." The pink monster said,
Monster smiled as he felt his heart skip a beat. "I'm Monster. Very nice to meet you."
Miss Monster giggled as a light blush spread across her cheeks. The two sat in silence for a moment before Monster spoke again.
"Say uh, I know we literally just met and all...But I want to cheer you up. Is there any chance I could treat you to a coffee or something?" He asked,
Miss Monster nodded, "I'd really like that." She replied, she stood up and took his hand as they walked off to Café Mystère.
Present Day:
"And we dated from that day forward. That was without a doubt, the best day of my life. Because that was the moment that you came into it." Monster said as he finished reminiscing. He looked over at Miss Monster. Who still sat there in silence.
He sighed, "Missy, I really am sorry for how I acted. Could you please forgive me? I love you, I can't lose you."
Miss Monster didn't respond.
Monster's heart sank knowing that she probably wasn't going to forgive him. And he completely understood. He was about to stand from the bench.
"Monster, I love you too…" Miss Monster finally said,
Monster stopped and looked at her in surprise. His fiancèe looked him in the eye. She smiled and reached out to place a hand on his cheek.
"I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to act like such a control freak. I just want this wedding to be perfect. It's supposed to be special. This is the day that we're going to remember for the rest of our lives. But I shouldn't have been so stubborn and snappy with you, and I should have let you have your say. I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?"
Monster smiled and held up the engagement ring.
"Let's try this again…" He stood up from the bench and got down on one knee.
"Miss Monster…Will you marry me?" Monster asked,
Tears began to stream down Miss Monster's cheeks again as she enthusiastically nodded. "Yes! Yes, Monster. I will marry you."
Monster slid the engagement ring back on her finger and sat next to her on the bench again. It was then that he pulled her in for a kiss. Miss Monster instantly melted into her lover's arms as they both kissed each other passionately. The soft wind whisked through the tree branches.
When they parted, they stayed in each other's arms. They pressed their foreheads together gazing into the other's eye.
"If we're going to plan this wedding, let's work together." Missy said,
Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Monster's head. "Hey, let's have the wedding here."
"What?" Miss Monster said surprised,
"Yeah! Think about it! This park is where we met, it's where our love first came to be, and we just rekindled it here. It's somewhere that's really important to us. And not many people here use this place as a wedding venue, so it will also be unique."
Miss Monster beamed. "Monster, that's a wonderful idea! A classic wedding in the park! I love it!"
Monster just grinned at his fiancée and they kissed again.
The next day, the engaged couple hurried to Unicorn's wedding planning office bright and early. The magical horse was surprised to see the couple happy and back together again after the horrible debacle they had the day before.
Nevertheless, the three got right to work. They told Unicorn of their plans to get married in the park. They also shared the other great ideas they compromised with. They both decided that it would be best to probably have Tree cater the event, but made some adjustments to make it less extravagant. They also said that the salad would have Caesar dressing after all and that they would have an angel food cake rather than a yellow one.
Unicorn listened intently and jotted it all down. When it came time to meet with the dress designer again, Miss Monster and Unicorn got into Unicorn's car. Monster stood there on the sidewalk smiling as he watched them drive away. He had decided to swallow his pride and let the dress be a surprise. After they left, he got into his own car and drove home.
Hours passed before Miss Monster finally arrived back at their place. Unicorn had been nice enough to drop her off. She looked tired, but happy at the same time. Monster had spent the day watching TV in the living room waiting for her to come home.
His eye twinkled as soon as he saw her walk through the front door. "Hey, you're back! How did it go at the dressmaker?" He asked,
"It went well. I told her what I want for the dress and she said she'll make it happen." Missy replied,
Monster stood from the couch and walked over to her. "That's great, sweetie! I know it will be great and you'll look gorgeous in it." He wrapped his arms around her tightly.
Miss Monster sighed. "Everything's coming together nicely."
"We still have to figure out some other things. But it's a start." Monster said,
Miss Monster kissed Monster's cheek before snuggling into him. "This wedding will be perfect. I just know it."
Monster chuckled, "I think so too…"
And that's Chapter 7! I thought it would be fun to do a chapter centered around the ole' "couple that always gets along suddenly starts arguing" trope. I love those kinds of stories so it was really fun to write here. Anyways, so that was Miss Monster and Monster planning their wedding. What will happen in the next chapter? Find out next time! Bye!
