A.N: Hey everyone! It's finally time for another chapter of "Masked"! In the last chapter, we saw Monster and Miss Monster plan their wedding, but there were a few road bumps in their plans. Thankfully, they were able to sort things out. Well, in this chapter we're going to see the love issues of another mask. Who? Find out now!
Butterfly, Black Widow, and Ladybug all danced around the stage as they rehearsed another one of their songs. Since they weren't practicing for another showcase, and they had already impressed the people over at Mystery Voice Records, a lot of pressure had been lifted off of their shoulders. So they were able to lighten up and enjoy their practices a little bit more.
Suddenly the door opened and Flamingo stepped in. She looked around at the empty club before her eyes settled on the stage. She watched her friends practice for a minute before they finished the song.
"Alright, let's take five." Butterfly said to her group, Black Widow and Ladybug nodded and the three of them headed off the stage.
Butterfly panted as she wiped the sweat from her antennae. It was then that she noticed Flamingo standing there.
"Hey, Flamingo!" She waved,
"Hey, BBFFL!" Flamingo replied waving back,
"What are you doing here?" Butterfly asked curiously,
"I was able to take my break earlier today, so I wanted to see if you wanted to quickly grab some brunch? I heard Bee just added a new quiche to the menu!" Flamingo answered,
The Rhopalocera smiled and nodded. "Okay, let's go." They both headed for the front doors.
"Butterfly, wait up!" A voice suddenly called out,
The two friends stopped and turned around. Out of the blue, someone came dashing out from backstage. It was the peacock from the showcase.
Flamingo gasped as she felt her heartbeat quicken. He was no longer clad in his sparkly suit and jacket, but a much rather simpler outfit consisting of a yellow jacket and dark blue jeans. Yet, he was still super stunning in her eyes.
Peacock ran towards the winged insect and the fuchsia bird. He smiled and held out a green handbag. "You forgot your bag." He said kindly,
Butterfly smiled as she took the bag and slung it over her shoulder. "Thanks, Peacock." She noticed that Peacock suddenly looked confused. She followed his gaze and turned to see her sassy feathered friend standing there completely still. Her large mascara-coated eyes were as wide as saucers and her long curved beak hung agape.
Then both Ladybug and Black Widow walked over and noticed the three standing there.
"What's going on over here?" Black Widow asked curiously,
Ladybug noticed that Peacock and Flamingo were staring at each other. "Oh yeah! Peacock, this is our friend Flamingo. Flamingo, this is Peacock. He's new to the venue." She introduced,
Peacock smiled sincerely and waved at the other bird. "Hello there, Flamingo. I remember you. You were at the show two weeks ago."
Flamingo still stood there frozen. She looked like she was about to topple over.
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh…." She trailed off,
Peacock blinked once in confusion. He tried again, "So, are you friends with Butterfly, Ladybug, and Black Widow?"
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh…." Flamingo trailed off yet again,
Her three friends looked at each other worriedly. This wasn't going well.
Peacock looked super unnerved by her strange behavior. "Right…" He said awkwardly, he turned to the two insects and the Arachnid. "Well, I'll see you guys later…" He then strutted backstage.
Flamingo cursed herself, "Ugh! ¿¡Que pasa contigo!?" She repeatedly kicked her heel. "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Butterfly, Black Widow, and Ladybug looked at Flamingo confused.
"What was that all about?" Butterfly asked,
"Yeah, you like, totally froze up and were speechless! That never happens with you." Ladybug pointed out,
Flamingo didn't say anything. She just looked down at the floor ashamed.
"Come on, tell us what's going on, Flamingo." Black Widow said comfortingly,
Flamingo sighed, "Alright, can I let you guys in on a little secret?" She asked,
The three other females nodded.
Flamingo took a deep breath. "…I have a crush on Peacock." She admitted,
Their jaws all dropped.
"No way!" Ladybug gasped,
Flamingo sadly nodded. "Way." She then sighed, her head hung low as her large pink tail feathers drooped. "I know I said after breaking up with Robin that I wasn't going to date anymore. But I can't help it! He just seems so amazing! I know it's crazy considering we've barely talked, but ever since the show, I haven't been able to get him out of my head!" She swooned, but then her face fell and she sighed again. "But I don't know how to approach him. You guys saw how I was just there. I totally blew it!"
Butterfly put a hand on her feathery friend's shoulder. "Flamingo, calm down. It wasn't that bad."
"It kinda was." Ladybug muttered under her breath,
Black Widow harshly stepped on the spotted insect's foot.
"Ow!" Ladybug whined shaking off her foot,
Butterfly shot her a glare and went back to comforting Flamingo. "Look, it's really awesome that you like him. I've gotten to know Peacock since he started performing here. He's a really nice guy, and he seems perfect for you. You two would be so cute together." She said,
Flamingo looked up at her sparkly friend. "You really think so?"
The Rhopalocera nodded, "I know so."
The bird smiled as a light blush spread across her cheeks. She frowned and looked down at the floor.
"But how do I get him to notice me?" She asked,
"Well there are many ways to a man's heart." Black Widow spoke up,
"That's right. And we'll help you." Butterfly said,
"You will?" Flamingo said, there was a glimpse of hope in her eyes.
"Absolutely! Right, Ladybug?" Black Widow replied, she looked back at Ladybug.
The red and black insect was now rubbing her aching foot. She winced before replying. "Yeah, of course." She said in a pained voice,
Flamingo smiled. "Gracias, amigas. You don't know how much this means to me."
"Hey, what are friends for?" Ladybug shrugged,
The four of them began to brainstorm a plan to help Flamingo get Peacock's attention.
"Hmmm...What could we do…?" Black Widow asked,
Suddenly Ladybug got an idea. Her arm shot straight up. "Ooh! Ooh! I know! I know!"
The other three turned to her to get her idea.
"What about a love note? You know, flatter him with your words. If you can't tell him how you feel to his face, then write your feelings down instead." She suggested,
Butterfly nodded, "Yeah! That's a great idea, Ladybug!" She complimented, The Rhopalocera looked around. "Anyone got a pen and paper?"
Black Widow reached into her bag and pulled out a notepad and pen. "Here." She said handing it to Flamingo.
"Okay, now just tell him how you really feel." Butterfly said encouragingly,
Ladybug spoke up, "Just don't make it too cheesy."
Black Widow cut her off. "But speak from the heart."
Flamingo looked at her friends before turning her attention to the note. Silently, she began to write down her love note for Peacock. After about a minute or two, she finished.
"Done." She said, she handed Butterfly the note.
"Alright. Now we just need to leave it somewhere for him to find." Butterfly said,
After taking a few minutes to think, they decided to hide it within the pocket of his coat. They remembered that he was wearing a simple yellow jacket as it was only a rehearsal day. Flamingo went backstage and her eyes scanned for the coat rack. There she saw a yellow jacket identical to Peacock's hanging there. She sneakily slipped her note and returned to her friends.
"So...Is it done?" Butterfly asked,
"It's done." Flamingo smiled proudly,
Unbeknownst to the girls, Banana went backstage. He had already finished rehearsing for the day and was preparing to go home.
"I'd better get home. My brother and his wife are coming for a visit. I'd hate to keep them waiting." He told himself, he searched around the backstage area. "Now where did I put my coat?" Finally, he spotted his yellow jacket hanging on the coat rack. The plantain made a beeline for the rack and grabbed his jacket. He slipped it on only for a folded piece of paper to fall out of one of the pockets.
Banana quirked a brow. "What the?" He said confused, he bent down and picked up the paper. He unfolded it and began to read the note. His already big eyes widened as they read the note. The blush on his pale yellow cheeks deepened.
"Who wrote this?" He asked himself, he looked down at the signature. His eyes widened even more. "Flamingo?" Banana looked around. He then looked to the front of the venue where he saw the flirtatious flamingo and her friends standing there.
Banana quickly adjusted his jacket and checked his breath before exiting backstage.
Banana approached them. "Flamingo…"
The lady quartet turned to him.
He cleared his throat and spoke again. "I need to set the record straight…"
They just looked at him confused.
"I'm super flattered that you like me. I...I never thought you felt this way..."
All of their eyes widened.
"...What?" Flamingo said confused,
"Listen, you're a really nice person and a gorgeous bird. But I just don't have the time to be committed to anyone right now."
Butterfly stepped forward. "Banana, what on Earth are you talking about?"
Banana held out the paper to them. "I found this in my pocket. It's a love note from you."
Flamingo gasped in shock. She accidentally mistook Banana's coat for Peacock's. Massive amounts of blush ran to her cheeks as she stood there in utter embarrassment.
"Oh boy…" Butterfly muttered under her breath,
Ladybug facepalmed. "Banana, that note wasn't for you."
Banana blinked in surprise. "It's not?"
"No, it was for someone else. She just put it in the wrong coat by mistake." Black Widow explained,
"I'm really sorry, Banana. I-It was an accident." Flamingo stammered,
The fruit just smiled at the bird. "It's okay. I'm actually relieved. I was worried I was gonna break your heart."
Flamingo smiled, "Don't worry, I'm fine. Thanks, Banana."
Banana handed her the note. "Here. Good luck with who you're trying to impress." And with that, he walked out of the venue.
"Well, that didn't go quite as planned." Butterfly said,
Flamingo's head sank as the humiliation really set in.
Her three friends consoled her.
"Come on, let's get out of here for a bit…" Butterfly said,
"Yeah, a cuppa brew ought to cheer you up…" Ladybug said, her British accent thick with her words.
The four of them began to head out the door. Black Widow looked over her shoulder. "Hey Croc! Tell Bulldog that we're taking our lunch break now!" She hollered,
Crocodile called out from backstage, "Lunch break? It's 10:30 in the morning!"
"It's important! We'll be back in an hour." Butterfly replied, she looked at Flamingo. "Don't worry, Flamingo. We'll help you impress Peacock."
Flamingo meekly smiled.
The four friends headed down the street to Café Mystère. Despite it being only an hour and a half before noon, the place was nearly deserted.
Black Widow walked over to the front counter. Bee was standing at the register per usual.
"Hey, Bee. We need four glasses of sweet tea, please." She said,
The Anthophila smiled at the Arachnid and nodded. "Of course. I'll have that out in just a few minutes."
Black Widow and the others took a seat at one of the tables.
"Alright, so do we have any other ideas?" Ladybug asked curiously,
Butterfly tapped her chin in thought. "Hmmm…"
Just then, the bell dinged as two familiar monsters entered the diner.
Whatchamacallit and Thingamajig walked up to the counter.
"Bee, we need two cups of espresso, please!" Whatcha said,
All four girls turned in their seats to face them.
"Thing! Whatcha! Hey!" Butterfly waved,
The hairy monster and the tall monster looked at their female friends.
Thingamajig smiled, "Oh, hey ladies." He said,
"What's up?" Whatcha asked, smiling beneath his long hair,
"Nothing much. We're just having a little girl talk." Ladybug answered,
"Really? What about?" Whatcha asked curiously,
"Whatcha, that's none of our business." Thing told him,
Flamingo waved them off. "Nah, it's okay. It's nothing I just…" She sighed hopelessly. "…I have a crush and I don't know how to approach him."
Both monsters' eyes widened. "Whoa! For real!?" Thing said, astonished. His sweet smile returned. "That's really awesome!"
Whatcha furiously nodded his head. "Yeah totally! Congrats, Flamingo! We hope things work out for you."
Just then, a thought came to Black Widow. "Say, guys. You're both dudes. How would you want a woman to approach you?"
"You're asking us for dating advice?" Thing asked quirking a brow,
"Yeah. What have you got?" Butterfly asked,
"Well, if I had a girl who liked me, I would like her to just be herself. That's all that matters." Whatcha replied,
"Yeah. Just act like yourself. If he doesn't like that, then it's his loss. Just remember that you deserve the best, Flamingo." Thing answered,
Flamingo beamed, "Thanks, guys. That's really good to know. The problem is I can't even talk to him. How am I ever going to approach him if I can't even speak to him!?"
"Yeah, you two should've heard her. She was all blubbering and frozen in place." Ladybug commented, this caused Black Widow to stomp on her foot again.
"Ow!" Ladybug yelled, grabbing her aching foot again. "I-I mean. It wasn't all that bad…" She finished,
Before anyone else could say anything, the bell dinged and the door opened yet again. In stepped none other than Lamby. She immediately recognized that all of her friends were there.
"Oh, hey guys!" She smiled and waved,
They all turned to face her.
"Lamby!" Flamingo said, her mood brightening up.
"Lamby!" Thingamajig beamed,
"Hey, Lamby!" Ladybug said excitedly,
"Haven't seen you guys in a while. What's up?" Lamby asked,
"We're just helping Flamingo win over her crush." Black Widow explained,
The sheep smirked. "Ooohhh. A crush, huh? Who?"
Flamingo blushed as she peeped out his name. "…Peacock..."
"That bird from the showcase? Oh, he's cute." Lamby smiled, nodding.
The sassy bird sighed dreamily, "I know. But I can't speak to him. Every time I try I lose my nerve." She replied,
"Well, maybe you should practice before talking to him." Lamby suggested,
Thingamajig quirked a brow at her. "Practice? How?"
Lamby grinned. "I know." She took a seat in the empty chair across from Flamingo. "Pretend I'm Peacock. Try to engage in a conversation with me."
Flamingo hesitated. She was unsure. But finally she nodded, "Okay, I'll try…" She cleared her throat. "H-Hello, Peacock. I-I'm Flamingo. I-I-It's very nice to meet you."
Lamby nodded, "Mhm, very good." She said in her normal voice, She motioned for her to go on. "Keep going."
Flamingo stuttered again. "U-U-Uh! So, I saw you at the showcase and I thought you were really good. Y-You have a lovely voice."
"Way to pay a compliment." Lamby praised, "Go on."
"Uh…Yeah! So, I w-want to get to know you better…I was wondering if you maybe wanted to…If there was any chance that we could…" All of sudden, Flamingo started to sweat and shake. Her beak quivered as nervousness built up in her stomach. "Agh! I can't do this!" She burst out, she slammed her head down on the table, startling the others.
Lamby blinked once to register what had just happened. "Okay, maybe that wasn't such a good idea…" She said,
"It's okay. You tried." Butterfly said patting her shoulder,
Just then, as if on cue, Bee came over with a large tray holding six steaming mugs.
"Here's your coffee, ladies." She said with a smile,
Black Widow took their mugs in four of her eight spider arms. "Thanks, Bee."
She then turned and gave the remaining two mugs to the two monsters. "And here you go, boys."
Whatchamacallit and Thingamajig both gratefully took their drinks. "Thanks, Bee." Thing said sincerely,
Flamingo groaned, "Oh...What am I going to do?"
Bee looked at the sassy bird curiously. Finally, she gave a small smile and spoke up.
"You know, I was always taught that the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach." She said,
"True words." Whatchamacallit nodded,
"Very true." Thingamajig agreed,
"What do you suggest, Bee?" Lamby asked curiously,
The Anthophila briefly disappeared into the kitchen before coming back with a small paper bag. She placed it on the table.
Flamingo squinted her eyes at the bag. "What's this?" She asked curiously,
"It's a berry cobbler. I made it fresh this morning." Bee simply answered,
"What good will a cobbler do?" Whatchamacallit asked shrugging,
"It's Peacock's favorite. He's ordered it everyday since he's moved here. He usually comes in to pick it up, but he couldn't today because he was late for practice at The Doghouse. Perhaps you could bring it to him. I'm sure he would think it's really sweet."
The sassy pink bird stared at the bag in thought. Then she shrugged, "Eh, it's worth a try…"
"Good luck, Flamingo." Lamby said, she paid Bee for a pastry and left the café. Both Thingamajig and Whatchamacallit followed after.
The group of girls went back to The Doghouse and made a beeline for the entrance backstage.
Butterfly, Black Widow, and Ladybug just stood there as Flamingo mentally prepared herself to go backstage. The pink avian hugged the paper bag containing Peacock's cobbler to her chest.
She took a breath. "Okay...Here it goes…" She walked around the corner to the backstage area of the venue. Her eyes scanned the open space hoping to find the dressing room with Peacock's name on it. Finally, she spotted it.
Flamingo was a little hesitant at first. But the sight of Peacock's dressing room door sent a bolt of courage go through her as she strutted up to the door. She nervously knocked a few times and waited patiently.
A few moments passed before the door finally opened. There before her stood a lovely white swan.
She flashed a lovely smile at Flamingo. "May I help you?" She asked kindly,
Flamingo was taken aback. "Y-You're not Peacock." She pointed out,
"Of course not! My name is Swan. What's yours?" She asked curiously,
"Flamingo." Flamingo replied, "Why are you in his dressing room?"
"I'm Peacock's stylist." Swan explained, she then sighed dreamily, "It is such an honor and a privilege to work for him. He's an amazing performer! You know what I mean!?"
Flamingo felt a burning sensation rise in her chest. It appeared that Swan also had a crush on Peacock as well.
"Sí…I do…" She replied through gritted teeth,
"Now is there something you need?" Swan asked,
Flamingo took a deep breath to regain her composure. "I…I just came to see Peacock. I n-needed to ask him something…" Flamingo replied,
The majestic white bird gave a sweet smile. "I'm really sorry, but Mr. Peacock is not here right now. He's currently over at the performing arts school making a guest appearance."
Both the fuchsia bird's heart and tail feathers sank at the news. "Oh…"
"If it's really important, then you're more than welcome to wait here until he gets back. Or I can tell him you swung by." Swan said reassuringly,
Flamingo shook her head. "No. Eso no es necesario. That's okay. It wasn't important…" She then handed Swan the paper bag with his food.
"Also, I wanted to give him this. It's his cobbler from the diner. Bee saved it for him and I offered to deliver it." She explained,
Swan nodded in understanding. "Thanks, he's been craving this all day."
Flamingo gave a sad smile. "No problem. Good day."
"See you around." Swan said before closing the dressing room door. Flamingo sighed before she returned to her friends.
"What happened?" Black Widow asked,
"He's not here. Plus his stylist is a pretty young lady named Swan. I can tell that she clearly tiene los calientes para él!" She facepalmed, "It's hopeless. I'm never going to impress him. All of these common love practices aren't working!"
"Don't give up. Maybe there's one more person who can help." Butterfly said,
"Really? Who?" Flamingo asked curiously,
"I knew it! I knew that you had a thing for him!" Night Angel smirked,
The girls had taken Flamingo to Night Angel's house. They were currently up in the angel's room explaining the situation to Night Angel.
"Shut up." Flamingo spat out. Her cheeks were flushing red from embarrassment.
Night Angel laughed a little but quickly calmed down. "Relax, hun. I think it's great that you like him. So, you've tried dropping hints that you like him and none of them have worked. Correct?"
"I'll say." Flamingo sulked, "It's like nothing's going my way. First I tried to give him a love note, but Banana ended up with it by accident. Then I tried to go to his dressing room to deliver him a cobbler, but he wasn't there and I had to speak to his bubbly stylist who possibly also has a crush on him." She let out an exasperated sigh. "I don't know what else to do."
Night Angel tapped her chin in thought. "Hmm. You started liking him after he performed that song at the showcase. Correct?"
Flamingo nodded, "Sí...That's where it all started."
Night Angel then looked to the bug trio. "Tell me, do you guys have Open Mic Nights at The Doghouse?"
Ladybug nodded, "Oh for sure!"
"Alright, then the answer is simple! Impress him the way he impressed you! Sing a song from The Greatest Showman at one of those Open Mic Nights! He'll fall for you for sure!" She looked at the trio again. "When's your next Open Mic Night?"
"Tomorrow night." Butterfly answered,
"Then it's settled! You'll perform for him!" Night Angel said gleaming,
The sassy pink bird's mascara-coated eyes widened as her tail feathers shot up. "No! I couldn't!" She exclaimed,
Black Widow spoke up, "Why not? You have a lovely voice, Flamingo. We even sang in that group together!"
"That was years ago!" Flamingo retaliated, "I don't know if I can still do it! Besides, you guys know how I am with my anxiety. No, I can't do this."
Night Angel put a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Flamingo, you don't have many options. This is the best way to get his attention. Trust me."
Flamingo looked at her heaven-sent friend unsure. She then looked back at the other three. She then looked down at the floor deep in thought.
"But wait! You can't sing for him dressed like that!" Night Angel said gesturing to Flamingo's outfit, she looked to the Rhopalocera, the Arachnid, and the Coccinellidae.
"Let's get to work, ladies."
Flamingo stood just backstage, nervously twiddling her thumbs. With a little help from Ladybug who did her makeup and Black Widow who picked out her outfit, the sassy bird was ready to take the stage. She was clad in a sparkly silver dress that trailed a bit behind. Matching strappy sandals were on her feet. Her fuchsia feathers were brushed nice and neat and her eyes were dusted with deep pink eyeshadow.
Butterfly stood at her side. She peeked around the curtain, looking out at the club full of patrons. Unfortunately, The Doghouse was packed tonight, which would not be good for her friend's high anxiety.
Her emerald compound eyes scanned the large room looking for Peacock. She was delighted when she finally spotted the bird sitting with Black Widow and Ladybug.
"There he is, Flamingo." Butterfly said,
Flamingo peeked around the curtain as well. Her eyes widened at the sight of her crush. The Rhopalocera noticed her friend's anxiousness and placed a comforting hand on the bird's shoulder.
"Hey, it's going to be okay." She told her,
"Remind me again why we're here on our night off?" Peacock asked confused as they waited for the show to start,
"Because we heard through the grapevine that the acts tonight are going to be really good! We thought you'd like to hear them too!" Ladybug replied,
"Yeah, just trust us on this." Black Widow said,
Peacock just shrugged before looking back at the stage.
Flamingo started shaking as her palms got super sweaty. Her breath came in fast variables. "I don't think I can do this, Butterfly." She said panicked,
"Yes you can. You got this. Just be true and sing from your heart." Butterfly said,
"...Okay." Flamingo said,
The lights went low. A spotlight showed up on the stage and Bulldog bounded up the steps in another sparkly golden suit.
"Welcome one and all to our Open Mic Night!" He announced, "I am your host, Bulldog!"
The crowd cheered loudly. Black Widow, Ladybug, and Peacock merely clapped.
"We have a lot of great novice talent for you all tonight! Starting up, singing a rendition of "Never Enough" give it up for the lovely Miss Flamingo!" Bulldog said stepping offstage,
The crowd cheered yet again. Peacock smiled and clapped while Ladybug and Black Widow whooped and cheered for their friend. Butterfly immediately joined them.
Suddenly the whole room went dark. Then a lone spotlight shone on the stage. There stood Flamingo. She stared out at the crowd.
"Hey, isn't that your friend?" Peacock asked curiously,
"You bet it is! Go Flamingo!" Black Widow yelled,
"You've got this, girl!" Ladybug hollered out,
"Whoo!" Butterfly whooped,
On the inside, her heart was racing and her mind was at a blank. The pink avian closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm her nerves.
Then the music started. The soft piano played a melody that Flamingo knew and loved with all of her heart. She was determined to get this right.
She began to sing.
"I'm trying to hold my breath. Let it stay this way, can't let this moment end."
Her angelic voice rang all throughout the spacious club. Her fantastic singing garnered her a few claps and cheers. Peacock leaned forward a little in interest as he watched her.
"You set off a dream in me. Getting louder now can you hear it echoing?"
Peacock looked around and noticed his friends swaying to the music. He looked back up at the pink avian onstage. He couldn't help but be taken by her beauty and her voice. But he could feel something more than that.
Flamingo's eyes zoned in on Peacock sitting with her friends. She extended a hand towards him and continued to sing. Peacock's eyes widened a little as his heart skipped a beat.
"Take my hand. Will you share this with me? 'Cause darling without you…"
Then the music got louder and more grand.
"All the shine of a thousand spotlights. All the stars we steal from the night sky, will never be enough. Never be enough. Towers of gold are still too little. These hands could hold the world but it'll never be enough. Never be enough."
She held out the note before continuing. "For me." Then the music got even louder which caused the crowd to cheer more. At this point, Flamingo was about to give it her all. There was no turning back now.
She belted out, "Never never never enough! Never never never enough! Never enough! For me...For me… For me-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e!"
There was a pause. Before she finally finished.
"For me…"
The entire club erupted in applause. People whooped and whistled for Flamingo. The normally sassy bird gave a shy smile and curtsey as Bulldog came running back up onstage.
"Wow! Wasn't that amazing ladies and gentlemen!? Let's give her one more big hand!"
The audience applauded more. It was at that moment that Flamingo noticed that her friends were applauding her. Even Peacock was clapping really loudly for her. That warmed her heart. She stepped off the stage as Bulldog announced the next act.
Flamingo walked backstage and contemplated what she had just done. She laughed a little and put a hand to her forehead.
"I did it...I can't believe I did it!" She said, it was then that she felt a hand on her shoulder. The bird turned and was surprised at who she saw.
Peacock smiled sweetly as he waved. "Hi…"
Flamingo felt like she wanted to run, but she found herself getting lost in his deep dark eyes. Finally, she felt the courage to speak to him.
"...Hi."
"You were really amazing tonight." Peacock complimented,
Flamingo's cheeks flushed. "Oh, you really think so?"
"And how!" Peacock replied nodding,
"Gracias. I really liked your performance a few weeks ago." She said,
"Thank you." Peacock beamed, "You're Flamingo, right? Your friends have told me all about you."
"Yeah, I'm Flamingo." Flamingo said,
"I'm Peacock." Peacock extended a hand out to her. The Latina bird nervously shook it.
"By the way, Swan told me that you swung by earlier to see me." Peacock said,
The fuchsia fowl was taken aback. "She did?"
The handsome Peafowl nodded. "She told me that you brought me my cobbler and that needed to tell me something. What is it?"
Flamingo could feel her nerves skyrocketing once more. Finally she swallowed her fear and spoke up.
"Yeah...It was nothing, really. It's just...I know we barely know each other, but I think you're really cool and I want to get to know you better. So, I was wondering if perhaps we could...meet up for a coffee sometime?"
Peacock's smile didn't leave his face; it only grew. "Sure, we totally can. Is tomorrow good?"
"Yeah." Flamingo replied,
"Hey, is there any chance I could have your number?" He asked politely,
In that moment, Flamingo felt as though her heart was going to explode in her chest. She furiously nodded her head. "¡Sí! Of course!"
The two birds exchanged numbers. Peacock kept stealing glances at the Flamenco as she put her number in his phone. When that was all said and done, Peacock stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jacket.
"Awesome! Well, I'll see you tomorrow…Flamingo…" He turned and strutted away.
Flamingo stood there slack-jawed. She looked down at her phone and saw his name and number in her contacts list.
The fabulous avian left The Doghouse. As soon as she walked out the doors, she was immediately crowded by her three friends.
"Flamingo! You did it!" Ladybug squealed,
"You got his number!" Black Widow screamed,
Butterfly smiled proudly, "I'm proud of you, Flamingo."
Night Angel was also there. She smirked as she leaned against the hood of her car. "Told you it would work."
Flamingo gleamed at her angelic friend. "Night Angel, you are amazing. How could I ever thank you, amiga!?"
Night Angel waved her off. "Ah, no need to thank me. You made this happen. Enjoy your date tomorrow."
Flamingo smiled at the contact on her phone. "I will…"
Awww! Flamingo and Peacock! Man, I just ship these characters so much! And yeah, the fact that they both sang songs from "The Greatest Showman" was what inspired Flamingo's performance at the end. It just seemed so perfect. Anyways, that is going to be it for this chapter. See you all in the next one. Bye!
