Chapter 39
3rd Day Part II
Jack was confused while he felt his body being dragged by two people. He blinked, trying to understand where he was. Despite the blurry vision, he realized that he was in another kind of hatch, bigger then the Swan.
He was taken inside a small white room that had only a little sofa and a coffee table for furniture. The men threw him on that sofa. Jack didn't move, the sedative was still circulating in his blood.
Kate wasn't taken to a cell at all, instead they took her to some sort of an examination room where Juliet had been waiting for her. The effect of the sedative was slowly fading on her but she still felt drowsy.
She was put on a hospital bed with white clean sheets and two women started undressing her, replacing her jeans and t-shirt for a white hospital gown.
Ana Lucia had also been taken earlier to this place and Juliet ordered that she was bathed before her bandages were dressed again, then she was put into a beautiful long summer dress.
Juliet also gave her an anti-inflammatory and pain killers. The sedative she had been injected with was stronger than the one given to the others and she only woke up hours after she had been captured.
"What the…fuck?"- Ana mumbled when she found herself sitting inside of an examination room, all cleaned up and wearing a dress.
"You look pretty!"- Juliet said.
She frowned suddenly remembering what had happened to her.
"Who the hell are you and what have you done to me?"
"Calm down, Ana. Everything is alright."- Juliet said very calm.
"What the fuck do you mean?"- Ana shouted. "Where's my baby?"
"He's fine, I can assure you but I need you to calm down or I'll have to sedate you again and you don't want that, right?"
Ana Lucia suddenly stood up and grabbed Juliet's neck, trying to asphyxiate her. The other two women whom were also in the room held Ana back stopping her of killing Juliet. Once she was safe, she told the two women:
"Tie her hands, gag her and take her to Danny. He knows what to do!
Minutes later, Ana Lucia struggled with her hands tied to her back, a gag in her mouth and a bag on the top of her head. She was dragged out of the room and a man came and put her on his shoulder.
"Thanks."- She heard him saying to the women.
"I'm going to kill you!"- She tried to shout but her voice was completely muffled by the gag.
She heard the sound of a noisy door being opened and her heart accelerated in anticipation of what was coming next.

Sawyer walked back in forth inside the cell like a cloistered animal. If he stayed any longer in that place he was sure he'd be going insane.
The room was almost completely dark, there was only one tiny lamp on and the flickering beam of light was throwing shadows all over the rusty walls of his prison. He heard the door opening. A man came inside with a food tray and opened a small window on his cell, quickly pushed the tray inside and closing it back right away.
Sawyer yelled to him:
"Hey, the room service in this shitty place is just getting worse!"
He looked disgusted at the bowl of soup on the tray. He was about to be the worst soup he'd ever tasted but going on a food strike wouldn't help him; he started eating slowly and a few minutes later he heard the heavy iron door outside of his cell. Two men came in.
Sawyer had his back to the door while he was eating.
"What? Did you forget my dessert?"- He mocked putting the bowl of soup away and turning to see the man. Suddenly he forgot to breathe when he noticed that one of them was carrying a woman in a summer dress on his shoulder, struggling and mumbling unintelligible sounds against him with a bag covering her head.
He couldn't believe.
"What the hell is that?"- It was all he was able to say.
"You have visit, Jimmy Kimmel! A little gift from the boss.- Danny said, mocking.
The other man laughed and removed the bag from the woman's head. In that moment, time felt like stopping. That dark place did not exist anymore neither those men.
"Ana Lucia."- Sawyer murmured tasting the sweetness of her name in his lips again. His blue eyes got lost on her dark scared ones.
Ana's chest was going up and down, to breathe was obviously hard for her, her eyes were full of tears. She felt her body turning numb when she saw him.
Sawyer wasn't mocking anymore, his heart beat increased when he realized the men were going to put her in the cell with him.
Danny opened the cell door and untied Ana Lucia's hands, still she didn't move. Sawyer also didn't try to escape this time, he stood there feeling the anxiety deep inside his stomach.
Danny threw her there carelessly. Sawyer rushed to take her in his arms and immediately removed the gag from her mouth.
"Don't get too used to it, love birds! - Danny said and left the cell with the other men.
Ana Lucia grabbed him, feeling the comfort of his strong arms around her. She was sobbing now and couldn't say anything. Sawyer took her face between his hands and kissed her tears before uniting his lips to hers in an intense kiss. They kissed for a long time, only separating to catch up their breath.
"Don't ya cry, baby!"- Sawyer whispered to her.
She hugged him again and finally said something.
"It hurts so much to be away from you, I thought I was going to die…"
He took a close look at her. She looked drained. Her face was pale with dark circles around her eyes but the biggest change was the almost absence of her beautiful pregnant stomach, she just looked swollen, her belly had definitely decreased the size. Sawyer touched it.
"What they've done to you? The baby…"
"I gave birth."- She quickly told him.
Sawyer's blue eyes became wide open.
"When? How did that happen? We still had 3 months ahead of us…"
"I guess my calculations were wrong. You must have knocked me up the first time."
He smirked.
"So, was it our fun time in the jungle that afternoon?"
She closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest.
"Where is it? Don't tell me it's gone!"- The thought terrified him.
"No, Sawyer. He's alive!"
"He?"- His eyes became full of tears.
"Yes, baby. I had a beautiful boy. I named him James because he looks so much like you."- She touched his face with the tip of her fingers. "He has your eyes, your hair, your dimples, everything."
"Where's he? In the camp?"
Ana Lucia sobbed loud. Sawyer bit his inferior lip with anger.
"Those bastards! The Others, they took him away from me in the jungle. Our baby…"
Sawyer's was furious and once again he hugged Ana Lucia tight against himself.
"I almost died giving birth to him and if I don't have him back…I'll die anyways."- She murmured.
Ana's body shook against his as she continued to cry; despite the bandages and the pain killers, the emotional charge that she was going through was too much, she needed to rest.
"Sheesh…baby girl…"- He said with affection. "Come here…"
He carried her in his arms to the thin mattress on the corner of the cell and laid there with her, putting her almost on top of his body. He caressed her long hair.
"James, what do you think they're going to do to us? I'm so scared."- She confessed still snuggled up him.
"I don't know, Lu but I won't let them do anything to ya. They'll have to kill me first. My girl…"
He kissed her forehead and kept going along her neckline. Ana Lucia sighed, it was good to feel loved after all the pain she had been through the past few days. Sawyer touched her body with affection and she didn't object it. She felt ache inside and out but his touch was better than any pain killer. She turned her eyes to him and whispered:
"I need to see another morning with you, cowboy but my heart tells me this is the last time I'm seeing you."
"No, Lucy!"- He protested. " Why would'ya say something like that, chiquita? We're together now."
"I don't know...it's like a premonition."
"I don't believe in premonitions."- He said. "Especially the bad ones."
"Do you remember when you used to ask me what I really wanted? That you'd give to me no matter what?"
He smiled.
"Of course I do, I've asked ya this question so many times and you never really gave an answer."
"I'm going to give you my answer now. What I've always wanted you already gave it to me, a baby and all your love. There's nothing else I need.
They kissed again. Sawyer touched her very carefully, he knew they couldn't make love but still just to be able to feel her body on his, her lips, her warm breath against his face was more than enough, more than he could ever have expected being a prisoner in that place.
The door opened again and Danny came in followed by Colleen that was holding a grumpy baby James in her arms. His face was red for crying for so long.
"Hey, enough of it!"- Danny said. "Where do you think you are? This isn't a rendezvous!"
When she heard her baby crying, Ana Lucia stood up right away and held the bars on the cell.
"My baby!"
Colleen was obviously not content about taking the baby to her but she did what she was ordered to do.
"Don't be so happy."- She told Ana. "I just brought him because he still needs your milk!"
Ana paid no attention to her, she just held her child against her chest. Danny locked the cell and they left again. Ana Lucia went to sit with the baby on the mattress. Sawyer stood up and watched them for a few. Suddenly he didn't know what to do or to say, he just smiled.
She smiled back to him.
"Come here, papi."- She invited Sawyer. "Come meet your son."
The boy was distressed but Ana Lucia rocked him, singing a lullaby in Spanish.
"Duerme niño bonito..." (Sleep beautiful boy…)
The baby slowly calmed down. Sawyer finally came closer to them and touched his son's little head.
"Hi, buddy."- He said emotional.
James screamed a bit, his tiny hands searching for his mother's breast.
"My baby is hungry?"- Ana whispered. "Mommy will take care of it."- She lowered the strap of her dress and guided the baby to her breast.
Sawyer chuckled when he saw the kid feeding so eagerly.
"Daddy is watching you!"- Ana Lucia said, soft.
"So that's how it's going to be, huh? I'll have to get used to share you with another man?"- Sawyer teased. He kept on touching his baby, enchanted by him. "Look at the size of this foot!"- He exclaimed. "It's so tiny…you're the most beautiful mama in this world, Ana. I love you so…so much!"
They kissed. James cried, shaking his legs up in the air.
"Alright, I'm sorry. Daddy won't do it again. She's all yours now, buddy."- Sawyer kissed his son's head. "Daddy loves ya."
That moment was magic. For the first time they really felt like a family but within their hearts fear was present, after all there was the terrifying reality that they were prisoners. They had no idea what the Others were planning to do to them.
Ana Lucia touched Sawyer's face and he rested his head on hers.
"I love you, Sawyer. No matter what happens, don't you ever forget that!

A shrill scream fulfilled the aisle Y where Juliet was napping in front of a computer monitor. The sound had woke her up. She got her paper notebook and took some notes. It had been Kate who had screamed, waking up tied to a hospital bed. On her left arm there was a needle giving her fluids.
Bea one of the doctors that were working with Juliet entered the room.
"You need to calm down, Kate. Everything is ok. You are here because you were dehydrated.
"Where's Jack?"- She enquired, nervously.
"I told you to stay calm!"- Bea said firmly.
"Jaaaaack!"- Kate screamed again struggling against the bed, the needle falling out of her arm causing some blood to spill on her hand.
"He's fine!"- Bea affirmed. "You should really watch your stress, it is not good for your baby."
"You know nothing!"- Kate said.
"Actually, I do. I know that you're 15 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby."- Bea pointed to the monitor beside them that Kate hadn't noticed yet.
Bea raised her own and spread some gel over her small stomach. A greenish image showed in the monitor.
"Do you see? This is your baby's head, this is the spine and here's the little feet. Unfortunately is too soon to know the gender.
Kate felt emotional.
"My baby?"
"Yes."- Bea said with a smile. "Would you like to listen to the heart?"
Bea grabbed headphones and connected to the monitor before giving them to Kate to listen. A tear rolled out of her eyes when she heard the strong heartbeat of her baby.
"Oh my God!"- Kate exclaimed.

Sayid watched the Other's camp located in the heart of the jungle through his binoculars. This camp was very different from the other one they had invaded almost a year ago. There were no rustic tents, instead there was four types of hatches interconnected to each other with a bigger in the centre. Sayid concluded that that was the main one and it would probably go down many layers underground.
The Dharma Initiative symbol was present in all of them. The most curious thing was that these hatches always gave them the impression that they had been abandoned long time ago with their walls covered in rust, surrounded by wild vegetation.
"So that's their new camp?"- Michael commented. "Why don't we see anyone? Do you think they know we're here?"
"I have no doubts."- Said Rosseau.
"What do you exactly see, Sayid?"- Locke asked him.
"Something quite interesting."- Sayid replied. "There is a pathway that comes out of the bigger hatch and goes towards the beach. I believe there is a dock there."
"A dock?"- Michael said. "It must be a trap. I know very well that there's no way out of this island. When I left with Walt on the boat we sailed in circles for days before they captured us again."
"Maybe not this time."- Rosseau said. "I have never seen this place before."
"Pandora."- Sayid said.
"What?"- Locked asked, confused.
"Pandora, that's what it says in the main hatch."- Sayid explained. "The name of this station."
"How many fucking stations does this island have?-Michael asked more to himself than the others.
"I think many."- Locke commented. "This island is definitely bigger than we thought. I think we haven't seen half of it yet."
"What do we do now?"- Michael asked to the group.
"We'll stay hiding until dark then we'll follow an alternative pathway to the beach."- Sayid said.
"It sounds good to me."- Rosseau agreed. "Let's make a trap for them. We can surprise them at the docks, get some hostages and offer them in exchange for your friend and Alex.
Everyone agreed so they remained in hiding until night fall. Michael checked his watch, it was a quarter after five, so it wouldn't take very long to get dark and when that happened they would be ready.
To be continued...
