Author's Note:
Thank you Aravisloveshats for reviewing!
This might just be my longest chapter yet so enjoy!
Also, I'm not exactly sure how long chapters are supposed to be so I'll just keep it within a 1,000-2,000 word limit. Some of my previous chapters are a bit short but whatever at this point.
Tobias POV:
I stared at the ceiling. Tris was cuddled into my side, head on my chest. One of my arms were going to fall asleep but I wasn't about to move it and wake Tris up. I glanced at the time. 6:00 am, it read. Training was in an hour. I ran my fingers through Tris' hair with my free arm. Her hair was soft.
Tris started shifting around. Her eyelids fluttered open and I was met with those gorgeous, shining blue eyes.
"Good morning sleepy head," I grinned at her.
"Why are you awake so early?" Tris groaned, covering her head with a pillow as she turned away from me.
I chuckled at her antiques.
"We have to get to the training room,"
"Whyy," Tris groaned. I knew how to wake her up.
I started tickling her as she started giggling.
"Okay, okay! Please - no more!" Tris jumped up running into the bathroom, making sure to lock the door.
I chuckled running my fingers through my hair. It's so nice knowing someone loves you as much as you love them.
At 6:30 am, Tris exited the bathroom. She flipped her hair back as she secured her braid. I could see her ravens across her collarbone.
"Your turn," Tris said as she pulled on her black tennis shoes.
I went into the bathroom to shower and get dressed, also putting on a black shirt and some sweatpants. When I came out, it was 6:45 am. Tris was waiting at the door holding two muffins in her hand. Quickly, I pulled my shoes on and walked to the door, which was now open. Tris started running away from me.
"If you want breakfast you have to work for it first!" She shouted.
I laughed as I started chasing her. She made me chase her around the whole compound and finally stopped at the training room where she giggled. I was breathless and had my hands on my knees.
"Oh is someone tired," Tris said in a baby voice. I glared at her as she handed me my muffin.
"This was payback for tickling you wasn't it?" I asked.
She nodded and smiled as she sat on one of the tables. I sat beside her as we both enjoyed our chocolate muffins, waiting for the initiates to arrive.
The first initiate - Jackson - arrived five minutes before seven. He was early. The rest slowly trickled in as I started getting ready for our demonstration.
At seven, I started speaking.
"Now that you're all here, let's get started. I'm going to demonstrate some kicks and punches that each of you will be practicing on your own punching bags. Today you guys will practice and tomorrow you will fight in the ring against each other." I started punching and kicking the bag, naming off what I was doing.
Once I stopped, the initiates stood there.
"Well? Get to it!" Tris called out as she hopped off her seat on the table.
We both paced behind the initiates, ready to point out their mistakes. I stopped at Jackson.
"You don't seem to have much muscle. You would do good by using yours knees and elbows. Attacking first would be to your advantage."
Jackson paused a minute to ponder over my advice. He thanked me with a smile and I continued on.
"Hey Six! Why don't you help me with my form over here," One of the Erudite transfers - Damien - called out.
"I'm busy but I'm sure Four can help you!" Tris replied back nodding to me.
"Gladly," I strode over to him and explained everything in great detail as Tris helped the Amity girl; Colette I think was her name.
We continued the day like this. Damien was starting to get on my nerves as he kept trying to talk to Tris. Luckily, she always directed his calls right back to me.
By lunch time, we let the initiates out.
"If you don't feel you've had enough practice the training room will be open all day for you to come and practice on your own,"
"Will you be here to help us?" Damien asked while winking at Tris.
"Nope! You're on your own until tomorrow, when we assign you to fight," Tris swiftly walked past him and out the door.
The look on Damien's face was priceless.
The rest of the initiates filed out. After cleaning up the place, I also headed to the cafeteria. I saw Tris waving me over. When I sat down, she pushed over a tray of food to me. All of our friends minus Uriah were here. Suddenly, we heard stomping, and turned to see Uriah coming over. He pushed Zeke a bit before sitting down right next to him.
"Well well, what happened little bro?" Zeke asked while playfully pushing him back.
"You'll never know the disadvantages of being the younger sibling," Uriah eyed all of us, "except maybe Tris but I don't know if you were even allowed to talk to your brother."
"Can you just tell us what happened?" Tris said annoyed.
"Well, the initiates all know me as Zeke's younger brother-"
"Oh! You're still hung up over that?" Christina interrupted. He glared at her.
"One of the initiates mentioned Zeke as Uriah's older brother and now in every sentence they say they talk about Zeke. He's just jealous that he's not the better-known Pedrad," Christina finished off.
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
The two bickered back and forth while we all burst out laughing. Zeke even fell to the ground laughing.
After lunch time, Tris had to go to the tattoo parlor. I walked with her and gave her a kiss before leaving. I decided that I would go to the training room to help the initiates if any of them decided to practice.
Once I got there, I saw Damien, Jackson, and Colette. They seemed to be bickering and Jackson looked ready to punch Damien in the face. I wouldn't mind if he did but as an instructor I had to stop them.
"What's going on here?" I said, turning on my instructor facade.
They went silent.
"Well?"
"Damien was trying to kiss Colette! I was only defending her," Jackson blurted.
Damien was looking anywhere but at me. I noticed Colette standing behind Jackson.
"Is that true?" I asked her, a bit more gentler this time.
"Yes," She quietly said looking down.
"Damien, you'd do yourself some good to not get in trouble on the first day of initiation. Stay away from Colette or I won't think before disqualifying you,"
Damien grumbled an okay before trotting his way out of the training room.
"You two make sure you're ready for tomorrow. I'll get going now," I saw them nodding their heads before I left. I figured it would be awkward if I stayed with those two. They seemed to be really good friends.
Before I realized it, I was standing before the tattoo parlor. It was now 6:00 pm. Tris' shift should be over. Without wasting time, I entered inside and saw Tris packing up. Tiptoeing to her, I snaked my arms around her waist.
"Why hello handsome," she giggled.
I left one arm around her waist as we left the parlor.
Leading Tris to our favorite spot under the chasm, I sat her down. After I was done kissing her, I told her about what happened in the training room.
"Jackson and Colette would make a cute couple," she said.
"Guess it's time to play matchmaker for our initiates," I replied.
We stayed at the spot until dinner at eight. Then, we crawled out making sure we weren't seen. Everyone should be at the dining hall anyways. Tris flattened down my hair and was leaning in to kiss me. But instead, she whispered, "You better hurry up if you still want that kiss," and started running, leaving me there pouting. I started running after her.
Although I was the better fighter out of us two, she was the better runner. She ran ahead of me into the dining hall skidding to a stop at our friends' table. I slowed down too, as we both realized that everyone, including our friends, were staring at us. We both sat down as the talking around the area continued, at a lowered volume.
"What was that you guys?!" Shauna exclaimed.
"I was just testing Four's running abilities," Tris smirked at me. I was so going to get her back. The worst part is I couldn't kiss her yet as the initiates were also in this place.
I turned my attention back to the table as I rubbed the back of my neck. It wasn't everyday at the Dauntless compound you see a girl running from a boy for fun.
Our dinner continued on without further disruptions. We had our usual bickering, talking about who would become a member, some teasing. Once we all ate, we bid each other adieu, going to our respective apartments.
Once I shut the door of ours, making sure it was locked so no one would disturb us, I turned to Tris.
I gave her a long, fierce kiss, savoring the taste of her cherry chap-stick she applied a few minutes before.
"Do I win now?" I asked innocently, after pulling back once we were both out of breath. She nodded.
