Inside the PFL Enrollment Caravan...

"I must say, I commend your efforts to join the league." an elderly Dragonite began, leaving the PFL hopefuls crossing their fingers discreetly in hopes that they are selected.

Ash had a gut feeling that someone is not going to make it. This is the judge and talent liaison apparently. The funny part about the old geezer is that he's leaning on a cane, hunched over with wrinkly pursed lips, has a pair of glasses neatly placed on his snout, and a wide brown fedora. The scary part was how buff he is despite being so old.

"The Pokkén Fighting League has had many prospects with loads of potential, but we never had all of the fighters get locked into a draw in an entire exhibition event, let alone show plenty of personality in their character on and off the arena since my youth!"

Ash doubted that part.

The Dragonite pointed at Gardener Giga with a smile. "You following your dreams and dreaming for the the day when you become a member of this very league."

He then looked at Delphi Daring. "Showing that you belong brings out the best in you when going all out."

Glancing at Jimbo Jango, the Dragonite nodded. "An old Arcanine can learn new tricks, and you used your experiences as a guide to where you are now."

He nodded at OJ Challenger with respect. "You did that as well, and it gave you something marvelous to think about, building new experiences each step of the way."

Turning to Xan Yan Zan was a face of amusement. "You, young lad, entered the same way I started off in this league. I was an archive manager then a fighter."

When he went to Ash, his tone softened a little, as though he was grieving for someone. "As for you... We never had a fighter like you since the last Aura Guardian. The biggest Pikachu on in the world, and the Aura user who inspired me to be in this league in the first place. He wasn't a member, but he taught everyone in the PFL plenty of new tricks that helped us prosper for decades long after he died."

The trainer in another body shifted back a little, slightly uncomfortable that this old Dragonite is an old friend of his dimensional counterpart.

"Ah, the good ol' days. We kept going out for burger steaks with a side of rice after our fights and done all sorts of things together... He was a good man."

Ash gave a solemn nod as he thought about it for a moment.

Picking up his talent-hunting guidebook, the Dragonite wrote some stuff that can try solving this situation. "Let's see... You six will all fight current PFL fighters as a test for fifteen minutes. If you are not knocked out within that timeframe or defeat your assigned opponent, welcome to our organization. If not, you have two more tries before you can take part again next year.

Now that we settled this, here are the forms you need to fill out. Once that is done, introduce yourself to everyone here. Camaraderie is very important if we are to have all of you be the freshman class this year."

Everyone was given a form to complete as well as any other information such as addresses. Filling them out, they began introducing themselves.

"I'm Nicka. Nice meeting you!"

"I'm Serena."

"Aye, I'm Ross!"

"Name's Kai."

"Gen."

"Hi! I'm Ash. Glad to meet everyone."

The old Dragonite then clamored, opening the doors for them. "Well! Now that you are all acquainted, you should know that your tests will be in three weeks. The PFL prefers their fighters to go all out with new skills every battle, so use that time to know each other and hone your skills!"

The six PFL hopefuls walked out, waving to each other and promising to meet up somewhere so they can prepare themselves in those three weeks.

Ash looked at Gen, who used the name Xan Yan Zan as his stage name when they fought, and tipped his cap to the Lucario.

"Hey Gen! That was a great fight we had earlier! We should use what we got from that fight and use it for our tests!"

"Will do! Let's get everyone to meet in five days."

Going their separate ways in the harbor, Ash gave a sigh of relief.

The Elderly Dragon sighed softly as he remembered some of the last Aura Guardian's moveset. Almost the same as this young fellow.

Later...

Ash passed through the Magikarp Festival's many stands at WiiU Harbor feeling as though he won another League battle. Had a challenging opponent, made friends, and put in his all to try and push things to his favor.

If only his Pokémon were there to see him now...

Feeling a tap on his shoulder, the large human-turned Pikachu smiled when Bianca and Kanon flew up to him with their own prizes.

"Hey Ash!/Hi Ash!"

"Hey." Ash looked around before asking the two something. "What happened while I was away?"

Bianca nodded. "It was pretty packed when you and that lucario were fighting, so we got tips from some people using our wings as platforms."

Kanon flew up high and looked at the general area. She came back down with a childish shrug.

"Nothing much. I bought a guzzler helmet and sold it. Other than that..." the little latias balled up her claws and pumped them into the air in excitement. "THAT FIGHT WAS AWESOME!!!"

This made the man-sized pikachu give a good-natured laugh in appreciation as they went off into the night. "Thanks! I was honestly worried that it was a snooze fest."

"It wasn't." Bianca objected happily. "Now we need to guard the house from homeless bugs."

"... Bugs?"

"We swat them away with paint and other stuff. They usually break into the garage for some reason."

Ash went silent at that.

That's all for now, folks! I just want to say Happy New Year!
