Von Barke blew smoke into the air, green light casting him in shadows as the women and men around him danced. He leaned forward, easily spotting the detective that entered alongside a short squirrel woman that he recognized. Ah, Sandra. He chuckled, taking another drag from his cigar. This should be fun

Sandy should not have gone with Shadow, she realized, as she made eye contact with Von Barke. But, she wanted her brother back home and would do anything to make sure that happened. Fear gripped her tight, its claws digging into her spine and chilling her to the bone. She shivered, feeling Von Barke's eyes track her around the club as Shadow's hand tightened briefly on hers. They stopped too soon for her liking, already face to face with Von Barke. She averted her gaze as brown eyes looked at her with unbridled glee.

"What can I help you with, detective?" he drawled, puffing smoke out. His eyes ticked to Sandy, his smile growing.

"Randy, he can't work for you anymore," Shadow said, standing over Von Barke. "you're under arrest."

"Oh?" Von Barke asked, suddenly moving and reaching towards Sandy and cupping her face. "That's a shame, isn't it? Then his sister will do just fine," the wolf shrugged, pressing a thumb against Sandy's bottom lip. "you think I can't run this organization from jail?"

Sandy shook, remembering herself as Shadow moved between them. "You and this organization are done, Von Barke," Shadow snarled, gripping Von Barke's wrist and pushing him back onto the couch.

Von Barke's smile never left him as he was led out of the club in handcuffs. He looked at Sandy, leaning down to her height. "I'm not done with you or your brother yet, you should know that," he said, low enough for only her to hear.

Sandy shivered, pulling her coat closer around her to ward off the chill this man gave. He'd be back. They both knew he wouldn't stay in jail for long and whoever his successor was would fill his shoes when the time was right. But for now. For now, Von Barke ruled the opium district with an iron fist. And no one would step up to fill his place until he was dead.
