Chapter 4
"¡De todas las cosas que pudiste haber hecho, esta es la más insensible, estúpida, y egoísta que pudiste haber hecho!" Luz began to rant and scold Amity as soon as she explained why she had set Willow's memories on fire. "Now stop standing there like an idiot and go and fetch a bucket of water or something!"
And Amity, who looked like she was going to have an emotional breakdown, ran out of the Picture Room to find a bucket.
"Um, you do know that Hexside has a sprinkler system, right?" And, as if summoned, the sprinklers turned on and began to shoot down water to turn the fire off and get ourselves wet in the process.
A few minutes later the fire was out, Amity was back with a demon bucket, and every drop of water that fell on Willow immediately evaporated. The sound of steaming water broke off the small bubble of Luz glaring at Amity; Amity, looking like a kicked puppy, refused to make eye contact with the human; and I was getting more worried by the second.
"Alright, alright as much as we all would love to, repeatedly, punch Amity in the face." She winced and Luz nodded with her arms crossed over her chest. "We need to do something about Steaming Willow over here!" And, as if to further prove my point, a droplet of water fell on her head, which then proceeded to turn to steam almost immediately.
Luz sighed and tapped her foot on the floor a couple of times before snapping her fingers. "I know! We take her to Eda, she might know what to do"
"Eda? As in "Owl Lady", Eda?" Asked Amity while looking at Luz with wide eyes.
"Well unless you know of someone else who is available and could help without asking too many questions please, let me know." And without waiting for any of us, Luz turned around and began to drag a mumbling Willow out of the school.
Amity and I looked at each other before starting to walk behind the angry human. We held a silent conversation between us, mostly me asking her why she did it. And Amity, being the insufferable idiot she is, told me it was a secret.
Now I'm no dumb witch, and I know enough about Amity's past to make an accurate guess as to what caused her to try and burn out Willow's memories. Or… at least one memory in particular. Because anything regarding the time before she and I met was a sore subject and she always avoided it like the plague. So, with that much information, I concluded that she tried to burn the picture with Willow and her on it. But why would she do that? What happened between them all those years ago?
The walk to the Owl House was, thankfully, a silent one. Willow was getting worse by the minute and I was getting more worried the worse she got. Once we got there Luz threatened the weird (and incredibly disturbing), bird-tube-demon-thing that was (apparently) the house itself.
After explaining the situation to the Owl Lady, and she putting Willow to sleep and sending Luz and Amity inside her head, I was left with nothing to do except wait until those two fixed everything up.
Which was driving me insane! I'm not used to be standing around and do nothing! Especially when someone close to me (as a friend, nothing more), was in problems and might, quite possibly, lose all her memories. So what was I doing now? Well, I was making my best impression of Mittens, or the Blight siblings in general, and was pacing around the living room while ranting.
"Geez kid! Calm down a little, yer going to carve a path into my floor" Said Eda while chuckling a bit, doing her best not to laugh out loud.
I stopped dead on my tracks and looked down, only to find nothing there except old wood. Then I resumed my pacing and ranting. "But what if they don't manage to fix whatever Amity did? What if she forgets about us?" About me… wait! Why am I so worried about that?
The face I was making must have been funny, because the Owl Lady finally cracked up and burst out laughing. "Ahahahahaha! Oh boy… it's been a while since I've seen someone so oblivious to her own feelings!"
"Wh-wh-what?!" Oh, look! Me and my amazing eloquence! "I don't have feelings for Willow!"
Eda simply raised an eyebrow, crossed her arms and smirked. "I never said a name~!" I froze in place and slowly turned to look at the Owl Lady with a furious blush (Is it embarrassment or anger? I don't know.) "I'm just saying that nine out of ten times you've spoken, you talked about plant kid over there. Not about Luz or Baby Blight, her. To me, it sounds like you've got the hots for sleeping girl."
That got me to stop completely and turn to look at Willow who was sleeping peacefully on the couch with King, who didn't get hit with the sleeping spell, sleeping at her feet. I sighed and walked towards her and, once there, kneeling in front of willow to brush aside a strand of hair that fell on her face.
"I'm just worried for her. She has gone through so much shit and… and I wish I could do something for her."
"You want to do something for her?" I turned to look at Eda and was surprised to find a serious expression on her face. Since I didn't trust my voice at the moment I simply nodded to answer her question. "Then be her friend, cus that's what she needs right now. Be there for her."
To say I was surprised by Eda's words would be an understatement. I was about to say something when the sound of a bell caught my attention.
"Guess that's my cue!" She said while standing up, drawing a magic circle and shooting it at Willow's head. After a bright flash of light, Luz and Amity were back from inside Willow's head and… were they holding hands?
The Owl Lady was the first one to break the silence. "So I take it all's nice and fixed in there?"
"Yeap! All's back to normal inside Willow's head." Then Luz turned to look at Amity, who was still holding her hand! And she seems to have noticed that because she lets go of it with a slight blush on her face. "And you need to apologize to Willow. Both for what you did earlier and for what we saw in there."
Oh? So the human knows about what happened between Mittens and Willow. Well guess that makes sense, she just came out of Willow's head. Now as much as I would love to know what happened, I'll have to wait until either Mittens or Willow decide to tell me.
Speaking of willow… "Why isn't she waking up?" I asked while looking at Eda.
"Well I did hit her with a sleeping spell, so she won't be waking up any time soon." Then a mischievous smirk grew on her face and a feeling of dread filled my body. "But maybe you could kiss her and see if she wakes up!" And then she began to laugh.
Now I would probably have used my chains against her but I was too busy blushing and stepping away from Willow to do anything. Meanwhile, Luz looked between her mentor and me confused, with Amity mirroring her. But, unlike the human, Mittens locked eyes with me and, to my bad luck, grinned and began to laugh as well.
Great… now Mittens thinks I have a crush on Willow. Which is not true!? I think…?
"Why are you two laughing? What did I miss?" Luz asked, still looking between Eda and me.
I sighed and calmed down, feeling how the blush died down on my face. "It's nothing, Luz. Just Eda being obnoxious."
"Oh… well that's normal for her." She said with a shrug and began to walk to the kitchen. "You guys want anything to drink?"
"No thanks, Luz!" I said while walking to where Amity, who had the nerve of still laugh at me, was. "Mittens and I were just about to leave."
"Alright then. See you both at school!" And the human disappeared inside the kitchen.
Meanwhile I had to practically drag Amity out of the house and away from the weird tube demon before she could kill it, and began the walk back to Bonesborough.
"Oh man…" Amity said after finally calming down. "You? A crush on Willow?! I never saw that one coming, Val."
"Now listen up, Blight. I don't have a crush on Willow, okay?" At least I don't think I have one. "Besides she's not my type."
"Right, right. I forgot that you like girls who could bench press you without breaking a sweat."
"Yeap! Besides it's not like you have the moral to make fun of me Miss I-Have-A-Crush-On-The-Human."
And what was Amity's answer? Well going on full tomato mode and sputtering some words here and there, trying to deny it.
Hello, hello I'm back!
Writer's block is gone and I'm back with new ideas and a, hopefully, consistent update schedule in mind.
Now, we're slowly building up to Grom and a few important events in between so you have something to look up to.
I'll be seeing you all soon!
Cam, out!
