Beautiful You Chapter 14

"How you feeling, Bells?" Charlie asked as I adjusted myself among the thousands of pillows that he had brought down from upstairs. He decided after my near fall at the store that I was not making a trip upstairs until it was time for sleep. Not that I could blame him. My very existence was a cause for concern half of the time, especially with my special ability to fall over thin air. I should really have a metal for that, I thought chuckling.

"I'm fine, Dad. Just like I was the last ten times you asked me," I replied, smirking. "I have no pain and you've brought me enough pillows and water to last me for weeks."

"You can't blame a guy for wanting to take care of his accident-prone daughter, can you?" he grumbled as he plopped down in his seat and opened his can.

"No, I guess not," I agreed, smiling.

Charlie nodded, grabbing his remote and turning on some game I'm sure he was excited to watch. I sighed and grabbed the book I'd been reading, but after a few minutes I knew that there was no way I was going to be able to concentrate on anything other then the events that were unfolding around me.

I knew that moving to Forks Washington had been a good move for me because I had been so unhappy. I just didn't know that I had moved into my own personal episode of Buffy. Hell, that couldn't even describe the supernatural bull shit that was going on in that town. Sunnydale only really had a Vampire problem. Forks had sexy vampires and shape shifting giant dogs. And a town full of humans that had no idea either existed. And honestly, how is that possible? How can a whole town be that oblivious to the things that are going on around them? I had only been here for a short time and somehow, I'd figured it all out. Granted, my best friend kind of exploded into a furry creature in front of me, but still. I'm smart enough I think I would have figured it all out sooner rather than later. Charlie had even figured it out, but honestly that wasn't surprising. He always saw things that others didn't. It's one of the things that made him such a great Chief of Police.

I looked up to see Charlie sleeping in his recliner, his remote on his chest and his beer in his hand. I snorted and adjusted myself, moving my leg to make myself more comfortable.

The thing about both factions, the wolves and the Cullen's, is that both were ridiculously attractive. It should be illegal to be as beautiful as they all were. The wolves were the very definition of tall, dark, and handsome, with their perfect skin. And I'd never seen anyone have the god like features of the Cullen's. It wouldn't be far fetched to say that some might want to worship them and their perfectly sculpted bodies.

And somehow you managed to become friends with some of the most beautiful creatures in the entire universe, I sighed, rubbing my temples. I looked down at my t shirt and sweats, at the body I had be cursed with. How did I manage that? I wondered. Jacob and I had been friends since before I could remember, as Billy and Charlie would always put us together since birth. He never saw my size, just me. There aren't many humans out there as loving and accepting as Jacob Black. Seeing him lose his shit with just the drop of a name had rocked me to my core. But it was to be expected if vampires really were the natural enemy of shapeshifters.

I understood the friendship I had with him. It was a friendship I knew I'd have for as long as I lived. But what I wondered was why the rest of the pack befriended me so quickly. Was it because they were just following Jake's lead, seeing as he was to be the tribal chief when he was of age? Or was it because they really liked me and my weirdness?

The Cullen's were a complete and utter brain fuck if I'm being honest. There was no reason for them to want to have anything to do with me. From the little bit I had heard, they never had anything to do with any of the other humans at Forks High School. Why start now? Why start with me? Was there something different about me that attracted them to be around me? Was there something there that made my blood smell so amazing that they were keeping me for their Thanksgiving meal?

"A penny for your thoughts, Bells," Charlie said, startling the hell out of me.

"Jesus, Dad!" I yelled, grabbing my chest, and trying not to fall off the couch.

"What? I just asked a question," he replied, shrugging as if he hadn't just made me almost pee my pants.

"The last time I looked at you, you were passed out and then all of a sudden you're asking what I'm thinking about," I said, shaking my head. "How's the game?" I wondered, trying to change the subject.

"You don't give two shits about this game, Bells," Charlie laughed, taking a swig of his drink. "Now, what were you so deep in thought about over there?"

I shrugged, looking down at my lap, picking at a string on my shirt. "I don't know. Just everything that's been happening the last few days I guess."

Charlie picked the remote off his chest and muted the TV. "What about it? Is there something you want to talk about? Do you have any questions that I can answer? I'm sure that if I don't have the answer, Billy would be happy to do so."

I shook my head, smiling at the concern on my dad's face. "No, I don't have any questions. Not really. It's a lot to process, you know?"

"It really is," he agreed. "There are things on this earth that until just a short time ago, you thought were just myths and bedtime stories. Now there is a whole other part of your universe that you are having to adjust to. It's a lot for anyone to handle. On top of that, you are having to adjust to living in a new place and you are having to deal with that ankle of yours. Shit, Bells, it makes me want to drink for you."

"Thanks for that, Dad," I laughed, picking up the water bottle I had on the end table. "I'm good with some high quality H20 for now."

"Just know that you aren't alone," Charlie said, looking me in my eye to make sure I knew he meant what he said. We didn't do emotional conversations, not normally, so I knew that he meant every word of what he said.

Before I could respond, the doorbell rang, breaking up the emotional conversation that we were bound to have start. And damn, but I was thankful for that distraction.

"I'll get it," I said, going to stand up.

"The hell you will!" Charlie exclaimed. "Sit your ass down. I've got this," he insisted as he made his way to the front door.

I sat back down, adjusting my leg as I did so.

"Emmett! Esme! Please come in," Charlie greeted our company.

I looked up to see the two Cullen's walk into our house with bags and bags of things.

"Wow! That's a lot!" I exclaimed, sitting up further on the couch.

"Oh nonsense. I was going to just whip up some of this stuff for the nursing home. It was no trouble to add more," Esme insisted, patting my arm as she walked past me.

"How's the leg?" Emmett asked as he walked up to me, his hands full of bags.

"It's a leg," I answered, pointing at the useless appendage, causing him to laugh.

"Emmett, bring me those bags," Esme called from the kitchen, causing Emmett to hurry towards her.

"You'd think someone that big wouldn't be scared of his mother still," Charlie chuckled, coming back into the living room.

"I seem to remember you being the exact same way with Gran, Dad," I reminded him, smirking.

"That women was scary as hell, Bells. You can't blame me for not wanting to make her angry," he insisted, shaking his head at the memory.

"All men should respect their mothers," Esme said as she walked back into the living room, carrying two plates full of food. "There are 2 casseroles in the freezer, and a roast in the refrigerator that will only need to be put in the crockpot tomorrow morning. There are instructions on the lid that are fool proof."

"In other words, I should be able to do it on my own," Charlie laughed as he took the plate.

"Thank you so much, Mrs. Cullen. This looks amazing!" I said as I took a bite of the chicken.

"Oh, you are so welcome, dear! It's my pleasure. And please call me Esme," she insisted.

"What the hell is going on here?" an angry voice exclaimed from the front door.

Standing in the doorway were three pissed off shapeshifters, all shaking, seconds away from turning into their furry alter egos.

Charlie slowly stood, putting himself between The Cullen's and the three La Push men, looking between the groups. "Well, shit."
