ED AND THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND
CHAPTER 1: SEALING AWAY
SOMEWHERE IN THE CARRIBEAN OCEAN
1642
As a world famous beagle or author would say,it was a dark and stormy night on a rather large and desolate island in the depths of the Caribbean ocean, the full moon lurked behind a barrage of clouds that spat lightning and poured rain down from the sky,and numerous naval ships were closing in on the shore. In the dark and windy depths of the island's tropical jungles,a group of pirates were frantically running through the trees while they carried torches in their hands, all while another group of armor riddled men pursued them.
"Captain! The British are hot on our booty. They must not reach the treasure!" cried out a pirate in terror as they dashed through the jungle to which their leader at the front who was covered in shadow despite his torch stopped at a clearing and fiercely retorted "I know that Mister Trevor, and that's precisely why y'all must lead them to it!" only for the rest of the crew to gasp and one of them to exclaim "But Captain if they find it,everything we've pillaged will be lost-"
"Don't worry,I have a plan….and sadly me maties,it may be our last one." interrupted the leader as he turned around to face his crewmates with a regretful grimace before continuing much more stern "You scurvy dogs go and lead them there,I'll catch up!" to which they all saluted and shouted in unison "Aye Aye Captain!" before they all split up into the depths of the jungle.
As the armored men pursued the pirates and the crewmates started to lead them to their hidden treasure, the captain was now headed straight for the sandy shore as he pulled out a brown piece of paper from his coat and tore it in half while he ran. Once the Captain finally reached the shoreline and made sure he wasn't followed by their pursuers,he got down on his knees and allowed the rushing in waves to soak his legs and whatnot as he pulled out two glass bottles and put each half of the paper in one of them.
"Oh Lord Poseidon here my prayer to you,He who commandeth the sea and trembles the Earth with mighty Earthquakes, may you watch over my final burden to man and guide these heirlooms to a fellow pirate…...and let them find their way to paradise.
The Captain plugged up each of the bottles and threw them both out to sea with a powerful throw to be carried off to parts unknown, but there was no time to admire the scenery as the man knew he had one last thing to do as he bolted off into the jungle to face him and his crew's hunters. However no one who was on that island would live to know what happened afterward and only people who lived close enough to the island would recall hearing a loud and thunderous boom as if the heavens themselves split open, and saw a tower of black and red smoke rise up into the sky, almost like Hell itself decided to come up for a visit.
PRESENT DAY
ENGLAND
In a small mansion in the English countryside during a lovely Summer night,an elderly woman was sitting in front of a roaring fireplace and talking on the phone with an unknown contact as she held what appeared to be a torn piece of paper in her free hand.
"It is very nice to hear that you've accepted my proposition sir,I have already scheduled a ship for you and my niece to take y'all to America. Did you ever receive the photo of the target I sent?" asked the old woman as she carefully placed the torn piece of paper into an old glass bottle on the side of her chair to which the contact on the other line replied "Yes I did Madam,I'm looking at it right now. However would you kindly remind me again why we can't go ahead and search for the island while you're ahead of Coastline? Why is this boy of any need to us?"
"Coastline has the other half of the map in their possession but our half has the most beneficial information,so we can take all the time we need without them figuring stuff out. Second, while our satellites do show that the treasure is indeed on the island but hidden well enough that we need to go there ourselves to find it,the wildlife and jungles there are simply too dangerous for us to get past without some sort of guide. Someone who's lived among the wild before….and could understand any beast."
NEXT CHAPTER: THE LIFE OF A HERMIT
Author's Note: When you read the contact's lines, read them in the voice of Tim Curry because that's who I imagine he'd sound like and how important he is to the story.
