I own nothing.
Beautiful You Chapter 15
"Why are you here?" Jake asked in the most menacing voice I'd ever heard him use.
"Why are you here?" Emmett asked, his voice just as furious. "The last time I checked, this is Forks. We are no where near the reservation, there for we can go where we please."
"This house is under the protection of the Quileute nation, therefore this house is part of the reservation," Jacob declared, his voice vibrating with an authority I had never heard used in my life. Jared and Embry, who were flanking him, shuttered and nodded their heads, as if feeling what Jacob had decreed as law.
"Now, Jake, listen up. The Cullen's are always welcome here. Esme and Emmett came and brought food over so that Bells wouldn't feel like she has to get up and cook while she is still learning to deal with her ankle and those damn crutches. They are doing nothing wrong. I've told Billy and I'm going to tell all three of you so get it through your thick skulls. This house is Switzerland. As the Chief of Police, it is my duty to protect all of the citizens of Forks and that includes them. They've done nothing wrong and as long as they keep doing that, I will keep protecting them," Charlie announced, looking each one of them in their eye.
"I need to make sure that she is safe," Jared blurted out.
"How is that your responsibility? I would never hurt Bella. I could never hurt Bella," Emmett insisted, causing Jared to growl, taking a step closer to the giant vampire, who had moved his mother behind him.
"Jared this is neither the time or the place for this conversation," Jacob informed his friend, looking at the Cullen's and then glancing over at where I sat, dumbfounded.
What the fuck does he mean that he needs to make sure I'm safe? Is he talking about me? I wondered, looking around the crowded living room. Well, other then Esme I'm the only one that identifies as female, so it must be me. Unless one of the other furry friends identify that way and if they do more power to her. And why would Emmett never be able to hurt me? What the hell are these men talking about? It's these damn pills, it must be. I thought, shaking my head.
"I think it's time for Emmett and I do see ourselves out," Esme spoke up from behind her son, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"That's the smartest thing I've ever heard a leech say," Jacob said hatefully.
"You should take lessons, Mutt," Emmett spit, taking a step towards him.
"Shut the hell up! All of you!" I exclaimed, finally having enough of the bullshit that was unfolding in my living room. The pain in my leg was getting bad again and yelling and name calling was giving me a migraine on top of it. "I don't know what the hell is going on, but unless you plan on sharing it with me now, I suggest that all of you shut up."
"But Bells," Jake started.
"Bell," Jared said, reaching towards me.
"Bella," Emmett replied.
"I. Said. Shut. The. HELL. UP!" I whispered, my patience wearing thin. "I know you all have beef with each other. I've heard the legends and the stories. I know where you're all coming from, even if we haven't had that discussion. We can have that discussion. I am very much open to have a civilzed conversation with you. What we are NOT going to do is name call in this house. This house is Switzerland. I one hundred percent agree with my dad on that one. I am developing a friendship with the Cullens at school and I am very much enjoying it," I looked over at Jake. "You know how big of a deal that is for me. You know how hard it is for me to make friends. Please don't take that away from me just because of some family drama from centuries ago."
Jake nodded and folded his arms, looking Emmett up and down. "I don't like this at all, but she is my very best friend in the whole word and never asks for anything for herself. If I ever hear of one of you even making her so much as get a paper cut, the treaty will be over, and we will watch the ashes fly away."
"I could never hurt her," Emmett insisted, looking over at me.
Jared growled loudly and stepped between where I had stood up and where Emmett was guarding his mom.
"Jared, go outside," Sam commanded from the door way. Charlie put his phone in his pocket and nodded at the Alpha. He had obviously texted him. Jared vibrated where he was standing, causing me to worry that he was literally about to explode right there in the middle of our living room. And he was not moving. "Now!" Sam added, with authority.
Jared turned and looked at his Alpha. "You know I can not leave if I think she's in danger. You of ALL people know this."
Sam stared at him for a second and nodded. "I, Sam Uley, solemnly swears that I will protect Isabella Marie Swan with my last breath. She will come to no harm as long as I am around." Suddenly a swirl of air whispered through the living room, first around Sam, then Jared, and then finally made its way over to me, dancing happily around me for several seconds before disappearing as fast as it arrived.
"What the fuck?" I whispered, sitting back down on the couch, suddenly even more tired than I had been a few moments before.
Jared walked over to me and kneeling in front of me. "Bell, I will explain this all soon. I promise. But I must leave now. I will see you soon," he promised, before quickly running out the front door.
"Mrs. Cullen, please accept my apologies for the behavior that was displayed here this afternoon. We consider the Swan's friends of the tribe, some of us even consider them family," Sam addressed Esme.
"I understand Mr. Uley. We never meant to cause any problems. We were just trying to help Chief Swan and Bella out," she explained.
"Noted. Boys, let the Cullen's leave with no issues," the Alpha said to the remaining wolves. Embry and Jacob walked away from the door, heading towards the kitchen.
"I'm sorry for all of the drama, Chief Swan," Emmett said, holding his hand out to my dad to shake.
"It wasn't all your fault, son," Charlie assured him, shaking his hand.
"I hope you enjoy the food. If you need anything else, please, don't hesitate to let us know," Esme insisted, giving my dad a side hug.
Emmett walked over to where I was sitting on the couch, completely confused at the events that transpired in my living room. He knelled down in front of me in a similar fashion to what Jared had just a moment before.
"I'm sorry that I called your friends Mutts, Bella. I," he started, running his hand down his face. "I don't like being called a leech. It hits a nerve. But I shouldn't have lost my temper like that. Especially not in front of you."
"What does that mean?" I whispered.
"You… You're important to me. I know that we just met, and I know that we haven't really gotten the chance to get to know one another, but Bella, you are someone I feel like I've known my entire life and someone that I never want to stop knowing," he took an unnecessary breath, as if he were about to continue, but Esme cut him off.
"Emmett lets go so that Bella can get some rest. It's been a long day for her, and this didn't help her at all," she insisted, moving the man aside and reaching down and hugging me. "Please try and get some rest, dear. And let your father take care of you."
I hugged the vampire mom back, even though it was very much foreign to me. I wasn't use to getting so many hugs.
"Thank you again for the food, Mrs. Cullen," I said, smiling up at the kind women.
"It was absolutely no trouble, dear. And it's Esme," she reminded me, before walking out the front door, pulling her giant son out the door with her.
"Thanks for coming so quickly, Sam," Charlie said, shaking the man's hand.
"It wasn't a problem at all. I do wish that you had a different outlook where the bloodsuckers are concerned, but,"
"I'm sorry. What the hell did you just call them?" I asked, having had enough of this juvenile name calling. I was in pain; I was angry and I was confused as hell.
"I called them bloodsuckers, because that's what they are," Sam replied, a look of confusion crossing his face.
"Bells," Charlie warned, stepping towards where I was trying to stand up.
"No, Dad. Leave me be," I demanded, reaching for my crutches. I grabbed them, putting them under my arm and making my way over to where Sam stood. I stood toe to toe with the Alpha, with my 5'4 self, not giving a damn that he was almost 2 feet taller than me.
"Listen here, you overgrown man child. I've already told Jake, Jared, Embry, and Emmett, but I guess I'm going to have to tell your dumb ass, too. When I am around, there will be no name calling. I don't care what kind of vendetta you hold towards one another. You are all important to me and I'll be damned if I am going to sit around and hear you call each other names. Its not a thing I'm going to do. I don't care if you are the Alpha, Beta, Omega, or any other Greek letter you decide to call yourself. I won't stand for it. Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?"
Sam looked down at me, his eyes wide.
Charlie chuckled, shaking his head as he settled back down in his recliner. "You best listen to her, Sam. She's not going to change her mind on this one."
The confused man looked between my dad and I, obviously trying to decide how to respond. Looking back down at me he nodded and walked out our front door.
"Well, I always knew you were mouthy, Bells, but I don't think I've ever heard you talk like that to anyone other than me," Jake said as he came back into the living room, a plate full of food in his hand.
I settled back down in the couch, adjusting my leg, and grabbing for my pain pills. "Well, I've never had to yell at supernatural creatures who decide that they want to act like two-year-olds and fight over a new shiny toy before."
Jake laughed as he took the other recliner, leaving Embry to sit on the floor since my leg was taking up the other end of the couch. Embry also had a plate full of food and was shoveling it down his throat.
"You know, for you not liking the Cullen's, you sure have no problem eating food that was prepared by them," I observed.
"We have to make sure its not poisoned, Bells," Jake said, taking another bite of his rice.
"It's a hard job, but someone has to do it," Embry agreed, gnawing on his second piece of chicken.
"You're both assholes, you know?" I asked, closing my eyes. Between the ankle, my migraine caused by the supernatural showdown and just pure exhaustion, I was fading fast.
"We are aware, Bells. But you know you love us," Jake grinned, blowing me a kiss.
I flipped him off before drifting off into a world of sexy vampires and gorgeous shapeshifters, Jacob's laugh echoing around me.
