History won't repeat itself

Chapter 1- 2016

Maddie was sitting at the breakfast bar eating her cereal under the watchful eye of Happy, she looked at her class schedule, she knew today would drag as it was a Monday (who even liked Mondays anyway?).

Pepper checked things off her list "alright Maddie just remember we are only in Cali, anything happens, or you need us, call alright." Maddie nodded "yes Pepper, it's only for a few days anyway." Pepper kissed her head (Pepper had become a surrogate mother to Maddie ever since her mother Sophia had signed away her parental rights only a few months after learning Tony Stark was Maddie's biological father) "yes but you know what your father is like."

Maddie pointed at her "good point, at least I'll have Steve to make sure he doesn't do anything 'Tony like'." Maddie then stood up and hugged Happy then Pepper "have a safe trip." Happy had seen the change that Maddie had brought out in Tony, plus he saw her as a niece.

Pepper pointed a Maddie "remember to go to school, don't be late and…" Maddie laughed "remember to tell dad or Steve when I leave and when I arrive at school, also if I stay late for any reason." Pepper nodded "I've taught you well." Maddie waved as they both left Stark Tower, she groaned to herself as she knew she would have to get ready for school "Jarvis is anyone else here?" Jarvis "your father and Captain Rogers are still asleep."

Maddie tied her laces and grabbed her backpack, she walked down the hallway and peeked inside her dad's bedroom to find Tony flat out asleep but no sign of Steve, she tiptoed into the room and heard the tap running in the ensuite bathroom, she kissed Tony on the forehead "bye dad love you."

Tony mumbled some kind of reply in his sleep, she turned and saw Steve leaning against the wall, she walked over and hugged him "be safe." Steve hugged her and kissed the top of her head "you too Mads."

Maddie put in her earphones and set off towards the subway, she hated getting up early to get the subway whenever Happy couldn't take her to school himself. She sent out a text to Ned and Peter saying that she was on her way and would see them both soon. Ned's reply was he would see her by their lockers, Peter replied he would wait for her at the station by the school.

Maddie stepped off the subway train and started to look around for Peter and spotted him straight away, she took a sneaky picture of his back and sent it to her dad, Pepper and Happy with the caption 'I'm with Peter on our way to school x' Peter waved at her "Hey Mads, you alright?" Maddie nodded "sooo tired" Peter pouted "aww poor Mads." She then poked him in the sides and the pair headed towards school, as they got closer to the metal gates of doom, they then heard their names being called out "Peter! Mads!" the pair turned to see Ned walking over to them.

As they reached their lockers, Ned looked at them "10 bucks says we get given a group project to do". Maddie nodded "we haven't had one in a while, so we are wayyy overdue for one." Peter laughed "Flash will try and get paired with you Maddie" which caused Ned to start laughing too. Maddie hit Peter in the shoulder "Why did my dad have to be Iron Man, jeezzz."

As the school day drew to a close, the trio only had one more class then they would be free, they had already agreed to hang out together too. Just before their last lesson started Maddie felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, she saw she had a new message and showed it to Peter as Ned had already gone into the classroom; she opened the text message and saw she had been sent a picture of Tony and Steve leaning over a table having a serious discussion about something. Maddie then sent her reply in the way of her and Peter looking over their history books.

Peter laughed "who sent that anyway?" Maddie put her phone back in her pocket "Natasha" the pair took their seats and waited with everyone else for their teacher Mr Davis to show up, Ned then threw a piece of paper at them and pointed to the whiteboard ~ Group Project ~ Maddie silently laughed until she saw Flash Thompson looking over in her direction and smiling, this caused both Ned and Peter to burst into tearful laughter.

Their history teacher walked into the room "Alright inmates, as you can see, I am going to set you guys a group project which each project will have a different topic that way no one can cheat and I don't get 10 projects spouting the same things." Mr Davis pulled out a hat from his desk draw "in this hat is the names of everyone in the back row, someone in the front row will pull out your name, got it, NO SWAPPING!"

Ned pulled out his partners' name first "Betty" Betty looked up and waved at Ned, Maddie and Peter were happy for Ned as they knew he had a crush on Betty. Mr Davis stood in front of Peter "your turn Parker, pull out a name" Peter hoped he wouldn't get Flash Thompson, he pulled out a piece of paper "Madison" Maddie smiled "alrighty then."

After each member of the class had a partner for their projects, Mr Davis set every one a historical moment, Mr Davis looked down his notebook "Parker and Stark, World War 2." Maddie nodded and whispered to Peter "Know anyone who took part…" Peter smirked then frowned "does that count as cheating?" Maddie tilted her head at him "No you dummy, it's using our resources, I can't help it that Steve and Bucky were both there now can I."

An hour later the final bell rang out, Mr Davis looked at his students "remember you must do the work together, I will fail any pair if I find out only one member did the work, yes Mr Thompson I am looking at you. Enjoy and really dig deep with your research, I want to be impressed and surprised, remember use any resources you can find/have available to you."

Maddie nudged Peter "see any resources we have which means Steve and Bucky" Peter grabbed his bag "alright Miss Stark, where should we start first?" Maddie linked arms with him "to the library Mr Parker, Steve will still be at HQ, plus we can ask him to fact check on the information we may find." Peter nodded "good thinking Batman," the pair said goodbye to Ned who was discussing a research plan with Betty.

Once the pair got to the library, they signed into the computers using their school logins, Maddie took a picture of their area and sent it to Tony 'History group project, going to be home late x' Maddie nodded to Peter "righttttt let's get started" Peter raised his eyebrow "where do we start?"

Maddie smiled "Google durrr" as Maddie started to type key search words into her Google search, she had no idea that in a different part of the school, her search words were raising red flags and was being monitored for anything interesting….
