Author's note: the lovebirds have been married for three years at this point in time.
"Where does it hurt?" I asked Tyson.
"Right here," he said as he pointed to his back. "Right above my waist."
"Lie on your stomach so I can give you a massage." I poured my oil on my hand as Tyson rolled over onto his stomach and massaged the area that was hurting him the most.
"Oh, man...I wish I could take a break from work to enjoy something like this all the time."
"Why don't you? Well, I think I know the answer to that question."
"What do you think is the answer?"
"You basically can't live without wrestling and you're used to doing it for a living for so long. You don't know how to take a break from it and rest which is why your bones and muscles ache...but what do I know. I'm just your wife."
Maybe I shouldn't have thrown in the last part but it must've gotten through to Tyson because he was silent for an entire minute before answering.
"Yeah...you're right actually."
What's this?
"Don't let me talk you into something you don't want to do because it may cause an argument in the future. You know you like to throw up the past in my face sometimes."
"You're right."
"...Are you okay?"
"Why wouldn't I be? Well, I know I'm physically hurting, but, mentally you think I'm going crazy?"
"I...I guess I'm expecting you to argue with me…"
"I know we have bickered and I know we both want each other to have things go our way but that's not going to work and I'm actually ready to take a break from wrestling for a bit. I'll still check in on the company, sign people, train them, but I do need a break from wrestling. I gotta rehabilitate my body...and I'm going to grow out my beard, too."
"Oh, you're going to really relax huh?"
"Yup."
"That doesn't mean be lazy because I'm not always going to wash your clothes, sir," I joked. "Then again...you don't separate your clothes correctly so I'll do that."
"I can separate my clothes!"
"You throw all the colors with the whites. You don't give a fuck!"
"Yeah, yeah. Thanks again for massaging my back. I really appreciate it, babe."
"You're welcome. Are you up for the hike tomorrow?"
"Yes, I can make it up there."
Note: I accidentally said that there were going on a mountain but Florida doesn't really have them so it'll be a hill instead.
I was used to seeing houses upon houses on a big mountain but the hill still gave me a decent view of the scenery I enjoyed. Tyson playfully smacked my butt and winked at me then took in the scenery as well with a big grin on his face.
"I think this is a nice view," he said. "What do you think?"
"Lovely," I said. "I hope we can sit down somewhere though..."
Tyson plopped right down where he was sitting and beckoned me to sit on his lap but I objected as he was still hurting but he insisted. There was no arguing with him so I gently sat down and put my arm around his neck as I got comfortable so we could talk and relax.
"So, tell me: what is on your mind?"
"Well, I realized that soon our little man will have to start school soon but I'm scared as hell."
"Why are you scared?"
"I'm just scared because we're in a new country, I'm still getting used to life here, and I haven't left the kids in the care of anyone we don't know."
"I know that you're used to always taking care of the children but they are growing up very fast, Tia. Me and you have been looking into schools because we both know it's about that time for T.J. to start and after that, it'll be Tyra's turn. The kids will be alright, okay? There's nothing to worry about."
"I know, I know. It seemed like just yesterday I had T.J. and you helped me deliver Tyra."
"That was still the scariest day of my life...to be honest, I thought she wouldn't make it."
"Why?"
"I've never experienced a water birth before. I've never seen any videos of it or anything and when your water broke, I knew I had no choice but to be a part of it. When I saw you in pain, I wish there was something I could've done because hearing your scream made my heart shatter but you were so strong. When the baby finally popped out, I didn't know if she was breathing or not so I smacked her back a few times. I know I was against how you wanted to give birth but I'm happy I got to experience it as I got to deliver my baby girl. I don't think I ever told you this until now."
"I don't recall you ever thinking the baby wasn't breathing, to be honest. And you smacked her on the back?" Okay, I really don't remember Tyson telling me this or maybe I'm going crazy.
"You don't remember me doing it?"
"I was close to passing out, babe. I remember the baby crying and you put her in my arms."
"Oh...yeah, I smacked her on her back a few times. She had cried at first but then she went silent so I quickly smacked her on her back and she started hollering again...she scared me for a bit but all went well."
"Well, this is my first time ever hearing this story."
"I didn't sleep an inch that night, even with your cousin over. I was that worried."
"You did a great job delivering her, Tyson. I knew you could do it."
"Thanks, babe. I know I'm the best in the entire universe."
I rolled my eyes and gently moved my finger through the stub on Tyson's face.
"You're going to let this grow out, huh?"
"Yup...I will go off the grid for a while and just live life."
"Please do it because you want to, not because I'm suggesting for you to relax."
"I'm doing it because my doctor has told me to take a break, my body is telling me I need to take a break, my parents tell me to take a break, my sister does, Don does, you do, and even the kids still get sad whenever I have to travel for work. I'm taking a sabbatical, I'm growing my beard, I'm going to watch you dance at the theatre and around the house, I'm going to continue to teach the kids to read, I'm going to see T.J. off to school with you, hell I'll let him and Tyra tear up the house for a day while I'm at it. Also: I'm going to devour peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and I'm going to drink all the soda in the world. When I finally take my break, let us dance like John Travolta and Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction to celebrate."
"Oh? I think we can make it happen."
"Great. That's what I love to hear."
"I'm happy that you're finally going to slow down and enjoy life. I can also teach you how to dance for goodness sake."
"I know how to dance."
"You have two left feet."
"I'll give you five seconds to run away from me before I catch up to you."
I quickly got up, flicked Tyson on his nose, and raced back down the hill as he chased me all the way back home.
