I decided to go to the pay per view where Tyson would drop his titles to his opponent, thus beginning his sabbatical. He left the ring with a huge smile on his face and went to the back where I met up with him. He had a bright aura glowing around him that made him look extremely happy and not once did his smile ever fade away for the rest of the night. The kids were waiting for us in a room Don was barred from ringside, via storyline, and they ran up to Tyson to give him a hug.
"So, this is the start of your sabbatical huh?"
"Yup," Tyson said. "Gonna hop off the grid for a moment and take some time to myself."
"I'll fill in for you and I'll make sure I keep you up to date when something really important happens. But you go and enjoy your time with your family. I have to head back home but I'll visit you guys very soon, okay?"
"You've been a great help, Don. It was nice to see you after all these years," I said.
"It was nice seeing you, too. You guys take care."
Me, Tyson, and the kids all gave Don a big hug before leaving the arena to our hotel. The next day, we were flying back home to begin spending time together.
The first week Tyson was home was the week he barely looked at his phone unless it was his parents or if he decided to answer one business call Don told him to take. Other than that, he didn't care at all. He didn't even answer any phone uncalls about doing a zoom interview regarding the new video game that was being released as he loved talking about it. No social media, nothing. He actually went to get a new phone with a new number and put the new number into my phone. He told me that this phone would be what he would use for the time being as he didn't want to be tempted with work with the old phone. Made sense. I told him not to cut off anyone altogether and tell his folks about his new phone number. He agreed, quickly texted his parents, his sister, and some other people then put his new phone on the charger.
"That'll be my new phone for the year," he told me. "No work, no business, just peace and quiet."
"Good. I'm going to get breakfast ready."
"No, let's go out for breakfast. Let's go to IHOP and get a bunch of pancakes or crepes."
"Alrighty."
Me and Tyson got up to shower as the kids were still asleep. As we washed up, I saw a big bruise on Tyson's lower back and carefully washed the area that was the most sensitive to Tyson.
"Thank you," he said.
"You're welcome," I said. "Want me to wash your hair as well?"
"Please."
I took some conditioner, poured it into his hair, and massaged his locks thoroughly then he laid his head back in the shower and washed the conditioner out. Tyson smiled at me then grabbed the conditioner to start washing my hair, giving me the same treatment as I did for him.
Tyson ordered two plates of strawberry crepes with extra whipped cream. The kids had a field day eating the sweet dish and thankfully they didn't get any all over their face. Tyson ate like a pig as he decided that he earned the right to eat whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. He even had a strawberry banana smoothie with his meal to wash the food down. He was quite satisfied with his breakfast but he was the one who got whipped cream all over his face from eating. I grabbed a napkin to wipe his face and couldn't help but laugh at him because he gave me a silly face after I cleaned his mouth.
After breakfast, we headed to the park to let the kids run around and get all of the sugar out of their little systems. Tyson decided to join the kids but when the kids crossed him over like he was playing basketball with them, he lost his footing and fell over. I was laughing out loud from where I was sitting, knew Tyson was looking at me, and turned my head away but he was walking up to me as fast as he could.
"You think that shit is funny?" he said.
"Yes, yes I do," I said. "You mad?"
"Very," he joked. "I'm mad that my kids crossed me up and I'm mad that I fell and busted my ass."
"And that's why I'm leaving my ass off, too!"
"Asshole."
"Dickface."
"I'm gonna sit down…don't need to fall over again."
"You okay? For real."
"Yeah, I am." Tyson put an arm around me as he continued to watch the kids play with each other. "Did you enjoy breakfast?"
"Yes, yes I did. No more sugar or sweets for the kids for the rest of the day though…right?"
"Don't worry I'm not going to argue with you. They'll eat fruits and veggies later and a lot of water."
"Do you realize that you've been smiling all day long?"
"Do you realize that you've been doing the same?"
"Of course! It's because you're here, that's why!"
"I'll always be right by your side to tickle you."
"Don't you dare, mothersucker!"
A month goes by and now Tyson has a full grown beard that he was now proud of. He immersed himself into our pool in the backyard, swam underneath the surface for a bit, then popped back up to wave at me as I watched him swim. I waved back at him, got into the water myself, and helped the kids into the pool. T.J. held onto my hand for a brief moment before letting go when he jumped in to swim to where his dad was. Tyra simply floated next to me as she watched her brother swim to Tyson and refused to move when I tried to get her to swim.
"No, Mommy," she said.
"I'll just stay here with you then," I told her.
Once T.J. caught up to where Tyson was, Tyra still remained by my side even when T.J. and Tyson swam up to us where we floated. Tyson held out his arms for Tyra but she still refused to move from her place right beside me and shook her head at her father.
"Okay," Tyson said. "You don't want to swim with Daddy?"
"No," Tyra replied.
"If you swim with me, I'll let you eat a cookie before dinner."
Tyra perked up at that offer.
"Okay!" She finally left my side to swim with her father and ended up enjoying herself.
I dove underneath the water to submerge myself in the cold water and come up for air but was quickly lifted up and was again submerged into water: that damn Tyson had snuck up on me when I wasn't expecting it and I paid the price.
But I hopped on his back and playfully put him in a chokehold as we continued to swim and play in the pool as the bright sun smiled upon us.
