"Come on, Connor! Have a drink." Luther put a hand on the android's shoulder and handed him an alcoholic glass of Thirium. It was Luther's bachelor party, right before getting married to Kara. The group of men was at a local bar, having drinks, talking, and just having a good time.
"Thanks." Connor smiled and took a sip of his drink. It was his first bachelor party, and he wanted to make sure he did it right. The group of men continued to talk and laugh until Connor noticed someone entering the bar.
Gavin.
Shit.
Gavin stepped into the bar and ordered a drink, his eyes landing on Connor. The bartender handed Gavin his drink and the detective walked over to the deviant. "Hey, Tin Can! Never expected to see you in a bar and actually having fun." He joked lightheartedly. Connor forced a small smile and looked down.
"Oh, uh, yeah.." He chuckled nervously. "It's...it's Luther's bachelor party."
Gavin smiled. "Mind if I tag along for some drinks? Seems more fun than drinking alone."
Connor fought the urge to sigh and kept his eyes down. "Sure.."
Gavin's smile got bigger which made the deviant's artificial heart skip a beat. "Sweet!"
The two detectives walked back over to the party, and Luther stood up to greet his new party guest. "Hello, you must be Gavin. Connor has mentioned you a few times. Great to finally meet you." He shook Reed's hand. Gavin nodded and shook his hand. "And you must be Luther. Congrats on the wedding." He smiled. Luther thanked him and they all sat back down, getting another round of drinks. Everyone continued to drink and talk, enjoying the party. After a while, Gavin nudged Connor, who was staring down at his drink.
"Hey, you good, Tin Can?" He asked.
The android looked up quickly and nodded. "Y-Yeah. I'm fine." He answered softly. Gavin shrugged and downed another shot with a couple of deviants beside him. Much to Connor's dismay, the party lasted for another two hours before everyone left the bar to head back to their hotel.
Thank RA9 he's not joining us at the hotel.
Connor walked in silence for a few minutes before his thoughts were interrupted by Luther touching his arm. "Hey, Connor?"
The nervous deviant jumped slightly at his sudden interruption. "Yes?"
"Something on your mind?"
The android shook his head. "N-No, I'm fine.." He lied. Luther stopped him and looked at him. "Right. Now, if we're done lying to ourselves, do you want to tell me what's really going on?"
Connor sighed.
He can always see right through me.
"I just... I don't know. Seeing Gavin at the bar tonight was...scary."
"Scary?"
"Forget it, it's stupid-"
"Connor, I don't care what it is. I won't tell anyone; I just want to help." Luther said honestly. "Just let me help you, okay?" He put a hand on Connor's tense shoulder.
The nervous android nodded slowly. "O-Okay. Thank you." He took a deep breath and looked down. "I...I'm in love with Gavin."
Luther was surprised. "Oh! I see. Does he not like you back?" He asked genuinely.
"I don't know.. I haven't told him I like him."
"Why not?"
Connor sighed, exasperated. "I'm... I'm scared of how he'll react." He kept his eyes down. "I just don't want to blurt out something and make things weird."
"The way I see it, it could go one of two ways. Either he likes you back, or he says he doesn't feel the same way, and you just stay the way you were before." Luther said casually. "Or you could stay quiet and things will continue to be awkward. It's up to you." Connor nodded and they continued to walk down the hallway.
Maybe he's right.
Once everyone was in their hotel rooms, Connor laid in bed, unable to sleep. His mind was racing as he thought of what Luther told him. He considered the pros and cons of telling Gavin how he felt.
Pros: Gavin feels the same way. We start dating. Happily ever after.
Cons: He doesn't feel the same way. He thinks I'm weird. We never speak again.
Connor sighed and rubbed his eyes.
Fuck it.
The next day was Luther and Kara's wedding. They held a beautiful ceremony, and Connor very much enjoyed it. However, the afterparty was a different story. Luther invited Gavin back.
"Hey!" Gavin clapped Connor on the back, already holding a drink that Luther gave to him. "How's it going?"
Connor smiled. "Not bad. I-I'm glad you could come back."
Perfect time for me to tell you-
"Gavin! Over here!" A group of deviants that Gavin drank with the previous night were calling him over for a drinking game. Gavin smiled and looked at Connor. "Catch you later?"
"Uh, sure." Connor nodded, sighing as he left.
Maybe later.
Throughout the night, Gavin continued to drink and ignore Connor completely. Connor was secretly relieved, as this was effectively stalling Connor's confession. After a few hours, Luther came up to Connor. "Guess you didn't say anything yet?"
"How can I? He's drunk out of his mind." Connor retorted as they looked over Gavin and his new drinking buddies. "I should take him home." He put a hand on Luther's shoulder. "Thank you for inviting me. And congratulations on the wedding." He smiled and walked over to an intoxicated Gavin as he took another shot. "Gavin, fun's over. Let's get you home." Connor smirked as his friend stumbled over.
"A-Already? Man, you're such a buzzkill." Gavin complained. The android ignored his comment as he helped Gavin walk to Connor's car. Once he helped Gavin into the passenger seat, the deviant sat down in the driver's seat and made his way to Reed's apartment. After pulling into the parking lot and finding Gavin's room, they got inside and got Gavin to his bed. Gavin groaned and Connor quickly grabbed an empty bucket. Gavin took it and started throwing up all the alcohol he drank that night.
Good timing.
The helpful deviant rubbed his friend's back as he vomited. After a few minutes, Gavin put the bucket down, barely keeping his eyes open. Connor smirked and helped him lay down. He tucked Gavin in and turned to leave when Reed grabbed his hand. "Wait..." He mumbled.
Connor stopped and sat down on the edge of the bed, waiting for him to continue.
"Thank you...for driving me home.." He slurred.
"No problem."
"You...really mean a lot.. to me... and... I.." His sentence morphed into drunken mumbles as he started to doze off. Connor smiled and stroked Gavin's hand with his thumb.
"You mean a lot to me, too." He whispered.
More than you know.
