It had been a week since Gavin died. Connor had decided to go back to work after spending a week in his room alone. He got dressed and went out to the living room to grab his coat when Hank stopped him. "Connor, where are you going?"

"Work."

"What? Why?"

Connor shrugged. "I want to." His expression was emotionless. Hank knew that he wasn't okay, but Connor wouldn't open up about how he felt. He was rather surprised how hard Gavin's death had hit him. Sure, he was one of their coworkers, and Hank was upset, too. But last time he checked, Gavin and Connor weren't really friends, considering how often Gavin made fun of the deviant.

"...Are you sure? Son, you know you can talk to me-"

"I'm fine." The android cut him off and put on his jacket. "I'll see you at work." He said and left the house, taking his own car to work. Hank sighed and got ready for work as well.

Connor walked through the front door of the precinct, his mind still numb. All he was focused on was getting his paperwork done to keep his mind off of-

"Connor?" Fowler met him at the end of the hallway. "I didn't expect to see you at work yet."

"Have to get some paperwork done." He said curtly.

Fowler stepped in front of him and looked at him, puzzled. "I figured you and Tina would take more time to grieve. I actually suggest it." He said honestly.

"Tina isn't here."

"You shouldn't be either." Fowler retorted before Connor stepped past him and sat down at his desk. Fowler sighed and went back to his office, knowing he couldn't convince the deviant detective to go home.

Connor spent the next few hours on autopilot doing paperwork; distracting himself. Luckily, the office was quiet and no one came by to bother him. After a while he started a new report and realized that it was about the deviant at the Cyberlife store.

The fucker who killed Gavin.

Connor slowly got up on shaking legs and looked over at Gavin's desk. On his desk was the file for the store robbery.

Shit.

He walked over to the desk and stared at it.

"Y'know... you're not the worst android I've met..."

"I'm sorry I'm not a terminator like you..."

The deviant tried to smile but felt tears well up in his eyes. He quickly left the room and headed to the roof of the precinct.

He got up to the roof and sat on the edge of the building, looking down at the bustling city below. The chilled November air rustled the bright red leaves of Detroit's white oak trees. Connor tried to distract his grief-stricken mind by appreciating the bright colors of the city. He stared down at the people below, going about their lives. He envied them. They weren't suffering. They were able to be happy, and not have to live through the pain of losing one of the few people he loved most.

"Con?" A voice came from behind him. He didn't turn around. Footsteps came closer until he saw Hank standing beside him. "You okay?" The deviant didn't answer. Hank sighed and sat down beside his partner. "Come on son, you gotta talk to me."

"I'm fine."

Hank scoffed. "Sure, you've only been in your room for a week straight without talking to anyone."

Connor kept his eyes down. "Just leave me alone."

The older man shook his head. "Not this time, kid."

The deviant put his head in his hands. "God, why do you do this? Why can't you just leave me alone?!" He snapped, getting frustrated at Hank's company.

"Woah, woah! Take it easy, Connor, I'm here to help." Hank held his hands up in surrender.

Connor quickly turned to face the elderly detective. "Well, maybe I don't want your help!" He yelled. "Maybe I just want to be alone!"

"Yell at me all you want! But you can't believe that you're the only one who's lost someone!" Hank shouted back. Connor stopped and looked at Hank.

The older man sighed and looked down. "When I lost Cole, I thought my life was over. I didn't want to live without him. I shut everybody out, didn't eat for days. I suffered for... years." He looked back over at Connor. "Until you came along."

Connor glanced at Hank before looking down again. He let Hank continue.

"You made my life worth living. You helped me get through the worst moment of my life, and I can't thank you enough. That's the difference between you and me. I didn't have anyone to help me for a long time. You do." He kept his eyes on Connor. "You may not like it, but I'm here for you. Always. I love you, son, and I don't want to see you suffer."

Connor nodded slowly. "I love you too." His voice wavered. "I'm sorry, Hank."

"It's okay."

They were silent for a while, the sound of the bustling city continued to fill the air.

"I...I loved him." Connor suddenly said in a shaky voice.

Hank looked at him. "Who?" His eyes widened. "...oh." Connor nodded, tears started streaming down his cheeks. Hank felt tears of his own well up in his eyes. He leaned over and hugged Connor tight, resting his hand on Connor's head as the android began sobbing into his chest. "I'm so sorry, son.." His voice cracked with emotion as his heart broke for the deviant. "It's gonna be okay.."
