Tony threw a ridiculously big party to celebrate Pepper's recent take over of his new tech company. That he owns. That he gave to her in the first place.
Natasha rolled her eyes as she walked inside the house and spotted Tony's conceited face. She was wearing a black long sleeved bodycon dress that stuck to her body perfectly. Her shoulder length hair was in waves, complimented by her light makeup. Her black heels had a pretty sparkle to them and Tony couldn't resist giving her a once over.
He opened his arms and smiled.
"I know, I know. It's good to see me,"
"Quite the opposite, friend."
"Ah, but you called me friend, thus proving our relationship. Selfie." Tony got super close to the redhead and snapped a picture. She blinked in annoyance at the flash and pushed him away.
"Stark!"
"What, you don't like pictures? That's too bad, I was going to print this one and frame it on my wall. Do you think Pepper would prefer it in our bedroom or-"
Steve came from behind them and peered over Tony's shoulder.
"Wow, Nat. Great facial expression."
"Thanks Cap, I was thinking of you."
The picture showed a cheesing Tony and twitching Natasha.
Steve smiled. He looked Natasha up and down then quickly fixed his eyes elsewhere.
Tony removed himself from between his teammates and stared at the scene before him. In a matter of seconds, he cracked the code. Oh. This was going to be fun.
"Okay, I'll leave you and the side piece to chat it up. Enjoy the party... and don't have sex in Pepper's office. She'll be pissed."
Steve's eyes grew wide and Natasha couldn't help the murderous, yet delicious thoughts that came to her mind.
"What-" before Steve could ask, Natasha grabbed his arm and pulled him away.
"If you stand next to him any longer he'll just keep talking."
Steve tried his best to shrug off what just happened.
"Yeah…anyway, I'm surprised you came." he said, following the redhead through the crowd.
"I can say the same about you." She gave him an over the shoulder glance and could've sworn he was staring at her-
"You know Tony, always persistent" he replied, eyes quickly fixing on hers.
Natasha led them to the open bar and ordered a drink.
"Want one?"
"Nah, I'm good. Are Tony's parties always this big?"
"And sometimes, for absolutely no reason at all" Natasha remarked, taking a sip of her dirty martini.
Steve scanned the room then settled into the seat next to Natasha.
"Are you always on security mode?" Natasha asked, still working on her drink.
"Are you not?" Steve countered.
"Touche."
Steve found her eyes and was just about to say something when Clint showed up.
"Hey team, looking good!" He exclaimed as Nat hopped off the bar stool and hugged her friend.
"Barton, you're here."
"Thought I'd surprise you and tune you in on a special video call that will be happening very soon…"
Natasha's excitement grew as she grabbed the tablet he was holding and walked off. Steve didn't understand what was happening but proceeded to greet his other teammate.
"Barton,"
"Captain. How's your evening?"
Steve was interrupted by his phone buzzing. He dug into his left pocket and pulled it out. It was a text from Natasha.
New message from Nat: I'll be back in 30. Watch my drink.
Clint examined the man before him as he completely disassociated from the moment to reply.
S: Got it.
N: Thanks.
"Sorry. My evening is good. How's yours?"
*An hour later*
Steve was left at the bar, still babysitting Natasha's drink as Clint excused himself to go find her. He hated that he felt a bit of impatience, but tried his best to push those feelings aside. Whatever she was doing was her business and it's not like she vowed to stay with him the entire night. He was internet surfing on his phone when a message popped up.
N: Sorry, call took longer than expected.
S: All good. Must have been important.
N: Still have my drink?
S: Yup.
N: Be there soon.
S: OK.
Steve considered his words carefully but decided to send the next message anyway.
S: Nat.
N: Yeah?
S: Don't take too long.
A minute passed before she replied.
N: Miss me?
S: A little.
Clint stared at his friend and watched the corners of her mouth turn upward.
"I wish I knew who was making you smile like that. I'd have a few words with them."
"No, you wouldn't. Because it's nothing." Natasha dismissed, handing the tablet back to Clint.
"It was good to talk to Laura and the kids. I have to go back for a weekend."
"Please do. Laura could use some one on one."
"I bet. I'm gonna go back to the bar and pick up my drink. Coming?"
"Nah, you go ahead. I'm sure that's not the only thing you're going back for." Clint had a sly smile and Natasha wanted to throw him off the balcony they were currently standing on.
"Barton,"
"Yeah?"
"Shut up."
A/N: Review please! :)
