I jumped at the sound of my alarm clock ringing and went to smash the top as I would back in Phoenix but it wasn't there next to my bed. "Oh, right... I'm in Forks, I don't have a night stand." I swung my blankets off and slid out of bed over to my desk and turned the alarm clock off, a yawn escaped my throat as I threw my hands above and then behind me in a contorted stretch. I looked out my bedroom window and it was so foggy I had to wipe the cold out of my eyes to make sure I was seeing correctly. "Definitely not in Pheonix anymore" I mumbled to myself. I walked over to my dresser and sifted through the drawers, picking out red skinny jeans with several rips and tears, I picked up the two shirts I wore the day before and did a sniff test, they were fine so I just threw them on once I put my belts and boots, I struggled with the zipper, I needed to wax it more. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and put black eyeliner on my bottom eyelid, I liked the way it made my eyes stand out, usually I'd put a little bit of black eyeshadow on my bottom lid but I didn't want to do to much for my first day of school. I teased my black hair so it would hopefully stick up a little bit before adding enough hairspray to make me cough at the lack of air around me, when I was done I just stared in the mirror trying to recognize the person I was staring at, today just didn't feel real. I pulled up my shirt and looked at myself, I was slightly built around the stomach, the amount of crunches and sit ups I did was finally starting to slightly show through but not enough for any visible abdominal muscles as I didn't eat enough to bulk up. After a few minutes of self loathing I grabbed my black messenger bag that was riddled with patches and pins then headed downstairs and sat at the kitchen table, Bella was cooking eggs and bacon. My stomach leaped at the smell of food, all I had for the past few days was a bag of chips and I knew a binge session would be coming soon. Bella went to put a plate in front of me when I shook my head at her. "I'm not really hungry, I think I'll just get a big lunch." She nodded and set the plate in front of Charlie instead. When they were done eating Bella washed their plates and then we left out the front door for school after saying goodbye to Charlie
The engine was loud as we rode towards school. "Are you nervous?" I realized I had been staring at the floor of the truck. "Uh, yeah, a little bit. I wasn't very popular back in Pheonix so I'm wondering if it'll be any better here. There's not as many students here so I'm kind of panicked about that." It was quite for a minute before Bella spoke. "You know, I wasn't that popular either." "... You weren't?" "No, I kind of stuck to myself." "But every Saturday you went out with your friends." I questioned. "No, I was actually at the library, to just kind of get out of the house." I stayed silent at this realization, I always thought my sister was popular or something. "So... You were always at the library. You were never out at the mall or anything?" "No, I hate shopping." I kind of snickered at the comment. "Do you think we'll meet anyone interesting?" "Nah, it's a small town." I nodded in agreement, the rest of the ride was silent and when we pulled up to the school we went straight to the office. The lady was nice enough, she changed my name in the system and gave us both a map of the school with our schedules and a paper for each teacher to sign that we had to turn in at the end of the day.
I looked down at my paper as I left the office, my first class was Government. "Building six..." I walked through the halls while holding the map to my face, hopefully I wouldn't have to do this all day. I made it to the classroom in time but apparently not soon enough as I was the last one to arrive. Luckily the front office had already told my teachers of my name change and I didn't have to embarrass myself. My government teachers name was Mr. Jefferson and he took my paper, signed it and then pointed to a empty seat in the back of the classroom to which I nodded understanding and made my way back. My boots seemed to thud even louder against the linoleum floor which made me cringe at the attention it gave me, not that everyone wasn't already staring at me. As I sat down I could see a couple girls whisper to themselves and giggle, I scanned the classroom to see if anybody seemed interesting and I didn't until my eyes fell upon a pale student sitting in the middle of the classroom. He had long black hair that was put up in a half bun, he wore black jeans and a light brown sweater as well as a pair of black ankle boots. He seemed rigid in his seat, his fists were clenched and was the only one who didn't take a peak at me, until slowly he turned his torso and his cold black eyes met mine.
I knew this feeling, it was fear. Why did the dark eyes of this boy strike fear directly into my heart. My whole focus was on the long haired teenager, the voice of Mr. Jefferson was muted and muffled in the background and my breath was caught it my throat. It felt like if I exhaled my heart would stop beating right then and there. I could feel a bead of sweat slowly drip down the back of my neck. The feeling immediately went away when he looked away and I gulped. "Felix? Felix swan?" "I'm sorry can you repeat the question?" I managed to choke out "Are you okay, you look like you've seen a ghost." "Yes, sir. I'm sorry I must have zoned out." The same group of girls snickered and I sat staring at the board for the rest of class, when the bell rang I rushed for the door to get to my next class. Next I had English with Mr. Mason and gym with Coach Clapp.
I stare around the lunch room looking for Bella, she was sitting with a group. When she saw me she waved me over and I sat next to her. "Hey guys, this is my brother, Felix, if you guys want to introduce yourselves." I knew she had forgotten their names and that's why she had them introduce themselves. "I'm Mike, this is Jessica, Angela and Eric... Hey I thought your name was Baron? That's what everyone was told." "Oh um, I just really liked the name Felix so that's what I go by now." "Oh okay." "Well I think the name Felix is cute." The girl named Jessica spoke up. "Oh, really? Um thank you, Jessica." I could feel my face getting hot with a blush I wasn't used to being complimented. "You guys don't look alike at all. Are you sure your twins?" Mike said offhandedly. "Oh well, um we're not identical." I tried to smile, we used to get that comment all the time. I was tan with black hair and brown eyes and I was five eleven, Bella was very pale with brown hair and green eyes and she was five four. "Stop tormenting them." Eric joked with Mike. I watched as six teenagers entered the cafeteria. "Hey, who are they?" "Those are the Cullen's. That's Emmet, Rosalie, Jasper and Alice, she's super weird. They're like together together, except the two in the back. They're adopted by this super rich surgeon-" "Who are they?" I interrupted, pointing my head towards the two that she hadn't mentioned, one of them being the boy from Government. "Oh, that's Edward and Leon. They're apparently too good for anyone here." "Oh, okay." I mumbled and looked down at the muffin that Bella had placed in front of me, I nibbled at it a little before declaring I wasn't that hungry and she could have the rest. The rest of the duration of lunch I just stared at the lunch table, when the bell rang for next class I rushed there.
My next class was trigonometry with Mr. Varner, he was the only teacher that made me stand up in front of the class and talk which I managed to completely fuck up by stumbling over my words and talking too quietly. Then my last class was Biology with Mr. Banner, he handed my a book and then pointed to the only empty seat, next to Leon. I slowly walked towards the table, I could hear my heart in my ears, pounding louder than I've ever heard it before as if I was walking towards the edge of a cliff. When I sat down the pounding didn't stop until fifteen minutes into the class. For the whole duration my desk partner, Leon said nothing to me. He didn't even look my way, occasionally I could see out of the corner of my eye he would clench his fists and then release them as if he were trying not to blow his lid.
Leon had moved swiftly towards the door the second the bell rang as if he had been counting down to the very second on when it was going to ring. I signed to myself, I had already caused a person who had two classes with me to hate me, was it the shirts I wore from yesterday? I swear they smelled clean to me when I tested them. I continued to think to myself as I walked to the truck. I hopped inside and stayed silent the whole way home, Bella didn't question it and it seemed like there was a lot on here mind as well. That night Bella came into my room as I was reading. "What's up?" "Can I ask you something?" "Yeah" she held out the outfit she wore today. "Do these stink?" I kind of laughed and did a sniff test for her. "No, why? Did someone tell you you smelled like shit?" I teased. "No, there's this guy. Named Edward and I have biology with him and he just looked so angry at me... I didn't know why, and he left the second the bell rang." "You know that's weird... The same thing happened to me." "I'm not joking." "I'm not either! That guy named Leon that Jessica pointed out, I have two classes with him. The first class when he looked at me it felt like I was going to die, literally, like something bad was going to happen. And then the same thing in biology. We sit next to each other and he didn't say a single word to me. I thought maybe I smelled bad too." Bella was silent for a few minutes before she got up and walked out of the room, she said nothing as she departed and closed the door behind her. That night I almost didn't sleep at all.
