#4 Pride

Mai watched Zuko struggle with his robe for an entire minute before asking,"You need some help with that?" Zuko looked up immediately and his face broke out in a smile.

"Mai! You're okay!" he walked toward her with open arms but Mai ducked under him and started helping him with his robes.

"My uncle pulled some strings. And it doesn't hurt when the new Fire Lord is your boyfriend."

"So does this mean you don't hate me anymore?" Mai blushed.

"I think it means, I actually kind of like you." Mai placed a hand on his cheek and looked at him affectionately. Zuko returned the look. Mai leaned forward and they kissed, Zuko's arm wrapped around her and Mai's fingers tangled in his hair. After the kiss broke she placed a hand on his cheek again before glaring at him and poking him right above his wounds.

"But don't ever (poke) break up with me (poke) again." Zuko grinned at her goofily, before she smiled and they hugged, both smiling contentedly.

The crowd cheered as Zuko walked up to the coronation stage and he held his hand up for silence before saying modestly,"Please, the real hero is the Avatar." The cheering only grew louder as Aang walked up to the stage as well. Zuko then made his speech.

"Today this war is finally over.(more cheering) I promised my uncle I would restore the honor of the Fire Nation, and I will. The road ahead of us is challenging. A hundred years of fighting has left the world scarred and divided. But with the Avatar's help, we can get it back on the right path, and begin a new era of love and peace." Zuko then knelt down, and the Fire Sage with the crown came in. "All hail Fire Lord Zuko!"

After the coronation, Zuko was swarmed by friends and well wishers. Mai just waited for her turn. She looked indifferent on the outside, but on the inside she was bursting with pride. When her turn finally came, she walked up to Zuko and hugged him. Zuko then pulled her in for a kiss. It was quick, but long enough to earn gasps and sly looks from Zuko's new allies.

"I'm proud of you," Mai whispered in his ear. She felt Zuko's smile.

"Thanks." He whispered. It was like just like only the two of them existed at that moment, and Mai was happier than she'd been in years.
