Everyone had always forewarned you before going into college on what to look out for: the party atmosphere, the workload, the professors, the high expectations, the stress, the finances, making friends, meeting new people, finding your way in life, and finding out more about yourself. But when you have no one to hold your hand in life, to guide you, to protect you, to be there for you; you often find out about these things the hard way.
CH 1: Geralt Rivia
Narrator's POV:
"Oh look, isn't that guy like an albino or something?"
"I don't know but he's pretty cute."
Two girls giggled as they walked passed Geralt, who was trying to figure out which building was the Village and why his English 101 course was clear across campus; or at least that's what the map said. He cursed to himself as he contemplated on whether or not to ask for directions, but soon found a narrow path leading right through one of the campus' bistros. A few several yards later, he found himself as Village 100; he needed Village 102. After another few minutes, he'd finally located the correct room after having to walk around two different buildings several times; potentially looking like a maniac. Thus Geralt thrust the door open, hoping to find a seat in the back corner of the room.
"Right, now this semester will be no walk in the park. Freshman or not, the workload will be fierce. I've always said, the best way to be a good writer is to write consecutively, now each-" The professor stopped mid-sentence as she'd realized someone had just walked in.
"Please take a seat; I'm assuming you're Geralt Rivia?" She looked at him sternly as he nodded and found a chair in the back.
"Right. This week will be the only time I'll allow anyone to walk in five minutes late, I know you're all still familiarizing yourselves with the campus, but you're in college now and attendance matters! Ok, back to assignments. You're first essay will be based on your expectations for college life. Please be sure to have it in the traditional MLA essay format. You will not be needing any outside sources, but if you do choose to use a quote or some metaphor, etcetera, please add a works cited page. If you quote something, either purposefully or accidentally, that isn't something you've concocted, it's plagiarism. Plagiarism is not taken lightly here, and if done so intentionally can lead to expulsion. Remember, you're paying to be here; in other words, you're here willingly, so make sure to act like it." The professor went on for another twenty minutes as Geralt looked over the syllabus and groaned; they'd have to participate in class in order to get an "A" in the course, as well as give ten presentations during the semester. Five of which would be group presentations.
The remainder of the day went back rather smoothly; Geralt never got lost after finding where he had to go.
His last class was "Intro to Biology," he assumed the class would be rather easy. Thus, he walked in with little expectations as to learning anything knew.
"Everyone take your seats. I don't have all day you know." A seductive young woman stood at the front of the class as Geralt felt himself flushing slightly.
"Right, I'll be the teacher's assistant for this class. My name is Yennefer Vengerberg, Ms. Veneberg will suffice. I know you were probably all expecting a professor, but I'm the next best thing, so deal with it. I'm preparing myself to become an instructor myself, and there's no better way to do so than practice. I've held a perfect 4.0 GPA for the past three years at this university and am applying to top universities for my Master's as well as teaching credentials. Now, first you will go ahead and introduce yourselves. Make it short, there's seventy of you so I don't want to be here all day. Remember that you'll be needing a lab partner so be on the look out for one. Let's start with . . . Geralt Rivia." Her violet eyes met with his amber ones as he nodded his head.
"Go ahead and stand so everyone can see you." Yennefer added as he grumbled something under his breath.
"Geralt, introvert, good at sex and science." He sat down as everyone laughed.
"Huh, right, let's try to keep things more relevant shall we? And I'd rather learn what you're good at from your instructors or previous partners." Yennefer looked back at the sign in sheet at Geralt smirked.
The rest of the class was rather interesting, though Geralt was more so focused on his instructor than any of the lesson; nevertheless, he was able to answer every question correctly.
