Chapter 14: In the Rain (#4 Rain)
They met in the rain.
"Momo?"
Her beautiful face was lit in simple serenity, her cheeks dusted pink, her eyes warm.
"I was just thinking..." She looked up at the sky through the plastic of her clear umbrella. "I used to walk in the rain a lot. I had a white umbrella with spring flowers patterned all over it. I used to think it was adorable, like the rain was watering my flowers for me. Walking in the rain used to be something I could do when I wanted to get away from things and just take the time to think." Her chin dropped and she fixed him with a smile sweeter than he had ever seen on her face. "Then you and I started dating and I liked taking walks in the rain with you. It felt as if you had seen me walking alone and decided to join me. I really enjoyed those moments."
"We haven't had much time to walk together lately." He mentioned unnecessarily. Hero work was always needed but they had been overworked for the past month. "We've been so busy."
There was still that odd smile on her face, as if she knew something he didn't. "Yes. That's why I wanted you to find me out here. In the rain."
This was so unlike her. "Why?"
"Because I wanted the three of us to be together for a walk in the rain."
Something in his chest stirred. Neither hot nor cold so he could be sure that it wasn't his quirks. It was a funny feeling. He could see that whatever it was she was trying to say, it was important. But he was unsure and he couldn't understand what she was saying.
Then he watched her left hand reach out, the glimmer of the ring on her finger catching his eye, and he took her hand in his. Lacing their fingers he stepped up to her, studying the expression she wore. She settled their joined hands on her stomach. He took a breath.
"You're pregnant?"
"We're pregnant." She corrected gently.
He nodded mutely before smiling softly and leaning forward to rest his forehead on hers. She laughed lightly before moving in to hug him, dropping the umbrella at her side. He wrapped his arms around her and breathed in her scent and the way the funny feeling in his chest burst into a cascade of emotions, happiness prevailing over all others.
Then he took her hand in his again and with his other hand he rescued their umbrella from the ground.
Then they took a walk in the rain together.
The three of them.
OWARI
I have a hard time writing teenage Todomomo. I just keep wanting to write about their marital bliss.
Only sixteen more to go!
