Chapter Two: A Normal Day On The Job.

Zootopia, Savanna Central.

Three months, six day's earlier.

5:28 a.m.

It was another beautiful, sunny morning in the great city of Zootopia, where anyone could be anything. For example, people could be hero's or people could be

villain's, friend's or enemies. A fox by the name Nick P. Wilde was fortunate to count himself as a hero, a hero who helped people as an officer of the law, and

he got to do it all alongside his best friend. Being an officer, of course, came with it's new set of challenges, and Nick showed that he could overcome most of

them. Except for one obstacle. Nick had to wake up at 5:30 to start getting ready for the work day, and being a nocturnal mammal, he had some trouble

adjusting to the early wake up time. Every morning though, he woke up, took a shower, ate breakfast, put on his uniform, and went to work, and like the

morning before, this would be no different. "Beep...beep...beep...bee-", the infernal noise noise of the alarm clock was brought to a halt as Nick slammed it.

He groaned as he forced himself to get out of bed to repeat the same morning routine he had yesterday. He was putting on his uniform, with his usual slacked

tie and with the top button undone, when he stared at the badge that was laying on his bedside table. If anyone had told him he would be a police officer, he

would have laughed in their faces and called them crazy, but that was exactly what had happened, and he wasn't about to complain. He pinned the badge to

his chest, donned his favorite pair of aviator sunglasses, locked up his apartment, and started on a path that he had walked the past four week's. As he put

his feet on autopilot and made his way to his destination, he let his thought's occupy his mind. He thought back to the day he graduated the Police Academy,

the proud look his friend gave him after she pinned the badge to his chest. He also thought about how, if not for his friend, he would still be out on the

street's. His train of thought came to an end when he reached his destination, the Snarlbuck's. He walked up to the door, opened it, and not a second after it

closed behind him, he heard a voice call out. "Over here, Nick", a cheery voice called out. It was his best friend, a grey bunny who's name was Judy L. Hopps.

She waved him over to where she was sitting with a smile on her face. As Nick sat down with Judy, she presented him with a cup of coffee and a bag, and by

the smell of it, the inside contained a blueberry muffin. "Mornin' Slick, got you your usual", she said as Nick took them from her, "Thanks Carrot's", he replied

groggily, taking a bite from his muffin. "Still having trouble getting accustomed to waking up this early, sleepy head?", she asked with a teasing grin on her

muzzle. "Well, it doesn't help knowing I get to spend my day with a mischievous bunny, such as yourself", he replied as they exited the Snarlbuck's and made

their way towards Precinct One. "Me? Mischievous? You wound me, Slick, why would you ever think such a thing about an innocent bunny like me?", she said

with fake hurt in her voice. Nick rolled his eye's and smirked at her act as they made their way up the stair's to the precinct. Nick made his way forward and

opened the door for Judy," After you ma'am", and bowed low. "Such, a gentle fox", Judy replied as she went through the door. As they made their way to the

reception desk, they saw Benjamin Clawhauser, who was looking at something on his phone. "Mornin' Ben!", the fox greeted in his usual manner. The chubby

cheetah looked up from his screen, "Nick, Judy, how you two doing this morning?", Ben greeted in a cheerful tone. "I'm doing fine Ben, how bout' you?", Nick

asked as he leaned on the dispatcher's desk. "Oh, I'm doing just fine", he replied, "So have you heard about the new guy joining us today?", the cheetah

questioned the duo. "No I haven't, know who is it?", Judy said in reply, "I don't know, but I'm sure he'll get the usual greeting from the Chief". "If we know

Buffalo-Butt, I think he won't let us down, speaking of seeing the Chief, we better start headin' that way, Carrot's", Nick said as he made his way towards the

Bull-pen. "Alright, see you later Ben", Judy said as she bid farewell to the cheetah, "See ya' later you two!", he said in response. He then went back to looking

at his phone and the latest gossip on Gazelle. It was a few moment's later when the duo found themselves sitting together, up front, in their usual chair. Nick

was scanning the room to see if he could spot the new guy. It took him a while but he did eventually spot him. He was a capybara with dark brown fur, under

closer inspection, Nick saw that he had yellow eye's and a scar over his left one. He tried to get a glimpse of the newcomer's nametag, but was interrupted by

Officer Higgin's calling the room to attention. The usual chanting and table banging commenced as the cape buffalo walked through the door and made his

way to the podium. "Shut it!", he yelled to bring the room to order, "Alright, we have a few thing's this morning, first, we have a new recruit", he said looking

at a file in his hoof. "Why do I even other to bring it up", he said with a bored expression, "Second, we've had a couple of robberies in downtown. Grizzoly and

Fangmeyer, you get the...," the morning continued like this for the most part, and then Bogo called out to the last two," Wilde, Hopp's, I have four

missing mammals, a bunny, a wolf, and two badgers, and I want them found. Your pretty good at this sort of thing, so I expect a report on my desk soon!",

and with that, the Chief dismissed the room and everyone went about their business. "Well, let's get to work, Slick", Judy said as she hopped her way to their

shared cubicle, "Aye-aye, ma'am!", Nick replied as he followed her.

Unknown Location

On the outskirt's of the Rainforest District

9:35 p.m.

"Has the bait been set?", asked a deep, cold voice from somewhere in the dark room. "Yes boss, we did it exactly as you asked us to", replied a terrified deer

buck, " May I ask a question, Sir?". The deer knew he just put himself in a situation where, if he made the wrong move, he could be killed, for the mammal he

was talking to was very dangerous and unpredictable. But the deer had too many questions that we're still did not have answer's. The mammal in the

shadows thought or a moment, ' I guess I can let this slide, since it's getting harder to find replacement's', the mammal, making up his mind, answered, "One

question". The deer was not pleased by this answer, but was still happy to have his head attached to his body. " what is your plan for the for the new test

subject when we acquire him?", the deer said with a tinge of fear in his voice. The mammal thought about if he should tell the deer his plan's, but decided

against it, not wanting another loose end, "In time, I will make my intention's clear". The deer was even more disappointed by the answer he received, but

decided against pushing for more, "Is there anything else I can do for you, Sir?". The mammal remembered that he actually did have something he needed

the underling to do, "I need you to dispose of test subject four, the wolf, that is all", and with that the deer got up and left. After the the mammal was sure the

deer was gone, he got up from his chair and moved towards a board that was hanging on the wall. This board was very important to the mammal, for it had

all his plan's written on it. 'Let's see, what preparations must be made for the new test subject", the mammal thought to himself with a smile. Everything was

pretty much ready, all has been set in motion, all he had to do now, was wait.
