A/N: Sorry for the long hiatus. It's just been very busy. I've been working on this story, and another one I'm working on with Hughville that's a work in progress. So this story is to tide you over for now ;) Hope you like it!

Disclaimer: I don't own House or any other characters that belong to FOX. This is just fiction.

Chapter One

Lieutenant Nicola Brown had been following the orange and yellow Repsol for several blocks. Not on purpose, but because she just happened to be heading the same way. She also loved motorcycles and it was on her bucket list to one day own one herself. So she'd been admiring that one, despite the huge scrape on the side.

Out of curiosity, she typed in the license plate at the next red light. "Dr. Gregory House, 221B Baker Street, Princeton, New Jersey. No warrants, but a few minor infractions, including a night in jail for contempt of court." She smiled and wondered what that was about.

The light turned green and the bike sped off so she followed. At the next red light, she pulled up next to him. He wore a full helmet with a visor and she noticed he had a cane hooked onto the side of the bike. It wasn't anything she'd seen before.

He looked over at her and she gave him a thumbs up and a smile. He flipped the visor up and even though it was dark, she could see his bright blue eyes. But that was all she could see.

When the light turned green again, he flipped the visor back down and rode off, leaving her alone once again.

"Hey, Officer!" the voice shouted from the back. "We almost there? I gotta pee."

"That's Lieutenant to you," Nicola said as she drove on, taking her prisoner to the station. She'd picked him up when he became rude and belligerent at a routine traffic stop. Further investigation revealed he had some drug paraphernalia and weed in his car, a number of unpaid speeding tickets and a few DUI's, so she arrested him.

It was always her pleasure to arrest the jerks, because it pissed them off. And if they hit on her, she was even more inclined to ruin their day.

"Bitch cop," he muttered.

She smirked and pulled into the parking lot of the station. "Yes I am," she said as she opened the door to let him out. "And the bathroom is the least of your worries right now, pal."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that if you were upfront about the weed in your car, we could have avoided all this," she said as she guided him into the building. "But you figured flirting with me would get you a break."

"Worked in the past," he muttered as she led him to booking.

"Sometimes it's not wise to tempt fate twice."

"I want a lawyer."

"Fine. Do you have one?"

"No."

"We'll give you the yellow pages."

"Hey wait," he called to her. "What happens next?"

"You go into holding until your lawyer shows up."

"You mean a cell?"

"Yep."

"I don't wanna go to a cell."

"What did you think was going to happen? You'd just wait in the lobby until your lawyer showed up? You opted for a lawyer so now we can't talk to you. If you want to revoke your right to an attorney, fine. We'll talk, but I can't guarantee you still won't end up in the clink. So what's it gonna be?"

"Come on, it was just a bit of dope."

"It's still contraband, sir."

"This is bullshit!"

Nikola nodded. "Yes it is. Once you're done with booking you can call an attorney."

"Wait! Where are you going?"

"Unlike you, I get to go home. Have a nice night, sir."

"Fucking bitch!"

"That's enough of that," one of the booking agents said as he grabbed the guy. "Let's go."

He resisted and came at Nikola, fists swinging, but was quickly subdued and taken down by several cops who were standing nearby.

"Well, that wasn't very smart. You might have been able to go home tomorrow," she said as she pulled him to his feet. "But you can kiss that goodbye. Get him out of my face. I'm going home."

"Yes ma'am. Have a good night, Lieutenant."

She came back to the station in the morning and went to her office to find a mound of paperwork on her desk. Once she got herself a poor excuse for coffee from the machine, she sat down and set to work.

"I heard about your traffic stop guy," her Captain said as he stuck his head in the door. "You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine."

"You did good."

"Is he still in the clink?"

"Oh yeah. Still waiting for his lawyer."

"Good."

Once her captain left, she went back to work on her current case. One of her leads worked at PPTH so she grabbed her aide, officer Jenny Martin, and they headed to the hospital.

"And why are we going to the hospital?" Jenny asked as she gripped the door handle as Nicola weaved in and out of traffic.

"Just following a lead," Nicola said as she suddenly pulled into the parking lot. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the orange and yellow Repsol with the big scrape.

Once they conducted their business, she asked the reception where Dr. House was.

"Fourth floor, Diagnostics."

"Who's Dr. House?" Jenny asked.

"Doesn't matter. Let's go," Nicola said as they went back out to the car. "We have that roadblock tonight."

Jenny groaned. "Why?"

"Because it's the long weekend and people will be partying. It's our job to make sure everyone's safe. You know this."

"I know. It's just…"

"You don't like traffic duty?"

"No, that's not it. I just thought there would be more to it than roadblocks and school assemblies talking about drugs."

"Sorry, kiddo. It's not as glamorous as the movies make it out to be."

"I know."

"When you start out, you get passed around to various departments before you decide where you want to stay. I started in Burglary, then went to sex crimes, but that wasn't my thing."

"How come?"

"Too depressing. So many abused kids. It started getting to me. What is it you do wanna do?

"I want to go undercover. Do some drug busts, stakeouts, that kinda thing."

"I see. Well stick around. I'm sure we can figure something out."

Jenny seemed to perk up a little. "Yeah?"

"Yeah. You certainly look young enough to be in high school. Ever see 21 Jumpstreet?"

"The series? From the eighties?"

"Yeah. Young Johnny Depp."

"I've heard of it."

"Watch it. You might like it. It got me wanting to be a cop back in the day."

"Cool."

It was a busy night, and they were administering a lot of field sobriety tests. Nikola couldn't help but smile when the yellow and orange Repsol pulled up. This time, he was wearing a different helmet and she could see his face. And she liked what she saw.

"Hi there," she said, cheerfully. Being cheerful usually disarmed people right off the bat, as they would normally expect it to be all business. But she generally liked people, and was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

"Hey," he said, his voice was deep and sexy.

"Where ya headed?"

"Home. I was just at work."

"Where do you work?"

"Princeton Plainsboro."

"The hospital?"

"Yep."

"Had anything to drink tonight?" she asked as she moved in closer, trying to see if she could smell alcohol.

"Not yet," he smirked. "When I get home, that's another story."

She smiled and nodded, and he cocked his head to one side. "Have we met?" he asked her.

"No, I don't think so. I'm good with faces and I'm pretty sure I'd remember yours."

"So am I, and I've definitely seen yours."

Nicola tried to seem nonchalant and she stepped back. "Nice bike."

"It gets me where I need to go. You like bikes?"

"Yeah I do. I've always wanted one."

"Well maybe you should get one."

"Someday. Have a good night, Sir. Ride safe."

"Thanks."

She watched him ride away and sighed wistfully as Jenny approached. "Who was that? He looked hot."

"Some doctor from PPTH."

"Nice bike."

"Yeah it is. I love a man on a motorcycle."

"Me too."

They wrapped up the road block around ten and Nicola went home to her dismal trailer. It wasn't where she envisioned herself living. Her parents were very wealthy but they cut her off when she told them she wanted to join the Police Academy. Apparently, they had much higher hopes for their oldest daughter, like a lawyer or something that would suit her stature in life. Becoming a cop, in their eyes, was beneath her and therefore, she was on her own.

Not having any money after she graduated from college, she turned to the dark world of modeling and adult films. She only did a few movies but it paid enough for her to finish college and then join the police academy.

With a defeated sigh, she climbed into bed with a glass of wine and watched TV until she fell asleep.
