Bad things happen to people everyday. It does not matter where you came from or how many good deeds you've done. But to me...it was unfair.

I was only a child. A child who knew nothing about who she was or where she came from. A child who woke up with no memory about her life, but only her name. Yet as a child, I knew it felt unfair.

I woke up in an open field full of snow. The fallen snow had piled on me, but I didn't feel cold.

Just numb.

I sat in the snow for who knew how long. And although I knew nothing about this new world, I knew about the danger that was approaching me.

A man stood a few feet ahead of me. His eyes full of hunger and not sane. When he opened his mouth all I could see was his sharp teeth.

For some reason I just knew. This man wasn't human. This man was a vampire. A nasty, cruel vampire.

I didn't have the energy to move, but I was afraid. He ran to me at full force and fully intended to devour me. All I could do was watch his hand reaching for my face. I wanted to scream or cry, but I just felt too numb to even bother.

That's when... he appeared.

A boy not any older than I. He came between us and slashed the man's hand. The nasty vampire cried in pain and took a few steps back. He glared at the boy with anger and distaste. But the boy wasn't fazed. He stared at the man with a look of disgust.

"An abnormality, huh. Such a disgrace to vampires." The boy said. He turned to me with a comforting smile. The first smile to ever make me feel at ease. "Close your eyes for me, okay? I don't want you to see a sight."

I slowly covered my eyes as instructed. All I could hear was the sound of the nasty vampire being killed. I didn't feel any sympathy or pity for that man. He nearly killed me after all.

"It's safe now." I uncovered my eyes and looked at my savior. The boy was slightly bloodied, but he wasn't scary. His blond hair was still neat despite what he did and his red eyes held only kindness towards me. "Come with me. I'll take you somewhere safe." He held out his hand. I didn't hesitate to take his hand. He pulled me in his arms and lifted me up with ease. "You're awfully cold. I should hurry before you catch a cold."

Little did I know, this was just the beginning to my messy future.

That was Fine's first memory and the earliest memory she can pick up. Everything before that is...blank. Most people would find that frustrating or a pain, but Fine likes to think on the positive side. Sure she would like to know what her parents looked like or if she had any siblings, but nothing good will happen if she looks too much on the past. Chasing ghosts never led to any good.

"Fine?" Her friend, Lemon, broke her thoughts.

Fine looked at her friend in a daze before she realized that she was in her classroom and in the present. She should really stop remembering that moment already. It's been almost 11 years since that day.

"I'm sorry. Did you say something?" Fine asks with a small smile.

"It's just... It's 4:32."

A small pause. "Pardon?"

"Well it's 4:33 now. Don't you have to escort the Night Class?"

Fine blinked a few times. She starts sweating profusely and stands up abruptly. Is that why that class is empty?! How long was she daydreaming? Without a warning or hesitation, she slams the window open and jumps out.

Lemon, who is use to this, sighs and looks out the window. "Good luck~"

But Fine was already too far away because she was running like her life depended on it.

It actually kind of does, but she's exaggerating on the life part.

"GAH! WHY MEEEEE?" She shouted and pushed herself to run faster.

The Day Class and Night Class are two separate sessions. But, for some odd reason, people from the Day Class are like flies to the Night Class. Actually it isn't odd and just mostly annoying. The Night Class is full of...well... Inhumanly handsome people. And they're a group big enough to be one class. Which is why when classes are over for the Daytime students, Fine has to rush all the way to the Nighttime students dormitory because the Day students love to swoon over them. They don't cause trouble, but it's Fine's responsibility to keep them apart. Even though she fails MOST of the time.

By the time she reaches the gates of the Nighttime Dormitory, she was relieved to see no students from the Day Class. But it won't be long until they arrive so if the Night Class could be a little faster that would be great!

The gates open as soon as she thought that. Fine felt like her prayers had been answered and internally thanks god for being kind to her today. She clears her throat and bows respectfully.

"Good evening. I'm here to escort you to class." Fine said. When she looks back up she felt like she was almost blinded by the beauty of these people. Can they not be so good looking? It kind of makes Fine jealous.

"Fine."

Fine's gaze turns to the tall blond.

Memories of that day resurface once more when she locks eyes with those red eyes. The boy who saved her was now more masculine and handsome. He smiles kindly and his eyes twinkled with a sense of gentleness. Like any other girl, they would fall in love with him at first sight, but not Fine. Mostly because she didn't see him that way and-

"Are you alright?" He breaks her train of thought. He was suddenly in front of her.

Fine really needs to stop daydreaming. Isn't there a condition for daydreaming too much? Maybe she should ask Camelot to make an appointment.

"I'm okay, Bright-senpai." Fine said.

"Are you sure? You're all sweaty." Bright pulls out a handkerchief from his chest pocket and lightly pats her forehead. "We appreciate you rushing to come greet us, but please take your time."

Bright...is really kind. Since that day he's always been looking out for her. She really appreciates it but...

"It's my job." Fine lightly grabs Bright's hand and pushes him away. She smiles slightly. "Let's go before the other students arrive."

Bright studied Fine's face for a moment before agreeing. They walked side by side while the others followed from behind. All in their own conversations.

"Has Ms. Camelot told you the news?" Bright suddenly asks.

"News?" Fine repeated questioningly. If anything Camelot was yelling at Fine all morning because she overslept. Again.

"Next week we'll be receiving a new student." Bright said.

A new student? That's rare for a Night Class. "May I ask why so sudden? The first term is almost over after all."

"She's been meaning to enroll for a while now, but she's been busy handling her household affairs."

"Oh? Don't you guys usually have elders to watch over the household?"

"Yes, but it's different for her case. Usually if there isn't an elder in a household the council will send someone over, but her family is one of the oldest out there so no elder has been sent to handle it because it's disrespectful to send someone when the house head has not sent for one."

"She's the house head? Isn't that too young for your people."

"Yes, but it can't be helped. She's the only one left after all. In a way, she reminds me of you." The wind picks up and a few leaves fall from the trees. One leaf in particular falls on Fine's head. Bright glances at her hair and gently picks it off her head. They stop and let the other students pass as they gaze at each other. "Despite losing those close to her, she still smiles and fights through the dark days." Bright smiles. "I'm sure you two will get along well."

Fine blinks a few times. "Bright-"

"Oi."

Unconsciously Fine takes a step back and turns around to find her partner.

His violet-blue hair was spiky and messy, almost as if he didn't bother to fix it in the morning. His blue eyes glaring at Bright.

Shade.

"Look who decided to show up. I was beginning to think you weren't going to come." Bright said almost mockingly.

"Tch! Well forgive me, your highness, I was busy delaying the herd so this slowpoke can take you to the school building." He glares at Fine next, but it wasn't as menacing and more scolding if anything. "What's taking you so long to take them?" Shade grabs Fine's arm and pulls her ahead. "Also what are you doing walking side by side with them?"

"I was only talking to Bright-senpai!" Fine said.

Bright watches them bicker back and forth. His eyes burning into Shade's skull. He crushes the leaf in his hand and slowly joins the other students.

Once they reach the school, Fine and Shade said goodbye to them and go on their way back to the Day students dormitory.

"How many times have I told you to not get too close?" Shade lectured. "You either choose to ignore my warnings or welcoming danger."

"It's not that! I owe Bright a lot and he's an old friend."

"Oh? So he's just 'Bright' now?"

Fine sighed and crosses her arms. "Shade... I understand you don't like him-"

"Just his species in general."

"-BUT he's my friend."

"Is that all you think of him as? Do you really not feel anything else for him?"

"I'm pretty sure I understand my own feelings." Fine grabs a hold of Shade. "Can you slow down? You're walking too fast!"

This time Shade sighs and slows down his pace. Now they were walking side by side without any issues.

"I heard there's going to a new student in the Night Class." Fine suddenly brings up.

Shade groans. "Another one? I'm already on edge with those bunch and now I have to watch out for another one."

Fine didn't know whether to laugh or cry at his reaction. He looked so done, but it was understandable considering his past. Although she doesn't know ALL the details...she knows he went through something very traumatic too...

It was a quiet day in the cabin. Fine was doing her homework that Camelot assigned and doodling on the side.

Until there was a knock on the door.

"I'll get it! It's probably Bright!" Fine said. She rushes to the front door and freezes. She didn't know what to say or think to the boy in front of her. He had splashes of dried blood on him and it looked like he hadn't eaten in days. His blue eyes looked dead to the world and his violet-blue hair was dried up with blood. He was trying a definition of someone who went through hell.

"Fine, who is at the door?" Camelot asked when she realized Fine was taking too long to say anything.

The young gentleman at the door tips his hat. "Greetings young one. Might I speak to Ms. Camelot for a moment?" He said.

Finally Camelot comes out of the kitchen and screams at the sight of the boy. "MY GOODNESS!" Camelot rushed him in and brought him thick blankets to warm him up. "Fine! Go start the bath!"

Fine didn't say anything and did what she was told. Once the bath was ready, she came back to the living area. Camelot and the man were in their own conversation and the boy remained unmoving. He didn't even touch the hot chocolate in his hands.

"Hey." Fine spoke softly. "The bath is ready." She carefully takes the mug off his hands and sets it on the table. Then she takes his hand and leads him to the bathroom. "Do you, um, need anything? The extra clothes are in this cabinet under the sink. I'll leave now so you can wash up!" Fine took one step away, but the boy didn't let go. He didn't want her to go. "...are you okay?" No response. "Does it hurt anywhere?" No response. "The bath is going to get cold if you don't hurry, but you should wash up before getting in the tub." This boy...was weird. Does he hate baths? "It's okay! I hated baths too but I got use to it!" Fine grins. "I'll be waiting outside the door for you. I pinky promise!" Fine holds up her pinky. Finally the boy lifted his head and raised his pinky. Although it was weak, Fine was relieved to get some sort of response.

As promised she waited for him outside. And when he was done, she was slightly fascinated by his appearance. Now that he wwas clean, she can see the light scratches and bruises on his arms and face. He still looked like he crawled out of hell, but he was also more clean and slightly better than before.

"By the way, I'm Fine! My name that is! What's yours?"

The boy slowly lifted his head. "...Shade..."

"Shade?" Fine's smile softens. She takes his hand. "Come with me, Shade. You should eat something."

She leads him back to the living area where the man and Camelot were still at. They talked for a little longer until they came to an agreement that Shade will live with her until he's of age.

Wow. Memories are beginning to resurface one after another. She still remembers those days where Shade would wake up screaming or crying. Fine would stay with him until they both fell right back to sleep.

"You know there's a disorder for daydreaming too much?" Shade spoke up.

Huh? Fine looks around and notices they arrive to the dormitories. "Since when did we get here?" She asks.

"I knew it. You were too busy lost in your thoughts that you didn't realize we're here."

Fine chuckles lightly. "I've just been thinking a lot about the past recently. Maybe it's because I'm getting older and more curious than ever to know about my past."

"Isn't it better to not? It could be something painful."

"Yeah, but I'm really curious..."

"I can only imagine."

"By the way, do you have any plans for tomorrow?"

"We have exams coming up so I'm going to study."

"Eh~ But it's our day off! Live a little!"

Shade flicks her forehead. "Unlike you, I'm graduating this year. If anything you should be studying for next year when you become a senior."

Fine rubs her head and pouts. "Meanie." But he does have a point. Didn't they say your grades from your junior year are more important? "Hey."

"Hm?"

"What do you plan on doing after you graduate?"

"Get into college and join the agency."

The agency… A place full of Vampire Hunters. Fine remembered Shade mentioning in the past that his family had been generations of Hunters so he wanted to continue that legacy once he became older. He mentioned his family from time to time whenever he had difficulty going to sleep, but now he only briefly mentions it without saying anything else. Fine didn't need to be a genius to know what happened to them, but she still believes all vampires aren't that bad. Bright saved her after all.

"What kind of plans do you have for tomorrow?" Shade asks.

Ah! She was doing it again! Hopefully he didn't notice. "I wanted to go visit the candy shop. There's a sale going on tomorrow and I want to be able to buy my favorites." Fine answers. She fiddles her fingers together. "Can you...come with me? I'll study extra hard tomorrow!"

Shade studies Fine for a moment. Finally he gives in. "One hour. Any longer than that and I won't go again."

Fine's eyes brighten and she smiles widely. "Thank you Shade!" She runs inside the dormitory.

Shade watches her go and looks back at the direction they came. He glares hard until he finally turns back to the dorms and casuaully walks inside.

"Bright-sama~ Bright-sama~" A few of the female classmates called Bright. He didn't even spare them a glance as he looks through his book. "Bright-sama we hope you know the rules! We can't be too close to the humans! What will the council think when they see you interacting with that little girl?"

Bright closes his book and lightly glares at the girls. His eyes glowing with anger. "What I do has no business with the council or with you. Please go to your seats so that the teacher may come in." He said.

The girls were unaffected and retreat to the other side of classroom. The class starts to whisper. Just as Bright was about to tell them to be quiet, a hand touches his shoulder. He looks back and calms down when he sees it's his best friend, Auler.

"Bright, dear friend, don't think much of it. They only look for your best interests." Auler said.

Bright huffs and reopens his book. "What interests me has nothing to do with them. It'd be better if they didn't stick their noses in someone else's business."

"Yes, that's true."

"Is there anything you need?"

"Right to the point as always." Auler takes a seat next to Bright. "The princess is coming sooner than expected."

"How soon?"

"Once this weekend is over."

"Monday?"

"Yes."

"Is everything prepared for her arrival? She hasn't been outside very much because of her position, so make sure you guide her and help with her every need."

"Isn't she your-"

"Auler." Bright glances at his friend. "Class is about to start." From behind, the sun is setting. Making Bright's hair glow and his eyes more menacing "So...shut up."

Auler flinches at his sudden change of tone and slowly nods. The front door opens and the teacher comes in. He settles the folder on the desk and takes off his glasses.

"Good evening class. Shall we begin?"

And with that, Night Class has begun their lesson.
