The day's events had really taken their toll on her and now they were sitting on the veranda of the clinic saying goodbye to Freya who was going back to Germany now that her rotation was finished, she'd always know her and Rick had a close friendship if not more and the fact that she moved to sit in his lap as they kissed just corrected her suspicion.
Looking down to the end of the veranda she smiled as Toby stood there talking with Sonny slowly making her way over he smiled at her as Sonny walked back over to the group
"I don't suppose you're going to tell me why Jack was so mad with you?" she asked as he turned to face her
"Nah" he said shaking his head
"Fine…" she said holding her wine next to her chest
"You don't have to worry about that it's all sorted"
"I'm not worried" she shrugged as they stared at each other for a moment before she spoke again
"I was actually coming to thank you for bringing Andrew out, it was really selfless you can be such a good friend…" she said as she moved towards the corner of the building
"Go on but…" he said following her as he lent against the wall
"But you are also the most annoying man I have ever met" she said as he laughed a little
"Oh right"
"You enjoy winding me up…" she said as looked down at the floor
"You're doing it right now" she answered moving towards him
"You don't need my help" he smirked as he lifted his head to look up at her she moved forward and placed a soft kiss against his lips, as she moved back slightly she smiled as he moved forward meeting her in another kiss before she pulled back as there head was inches apart she looked into his eyes she turned around and began to walk towards everyone else as he moved from the side of the veranda he smirked
"Oh that's right, kiss and run" he smiled as she turned to face him
"I'm not running, I'm walking" she shrugged
"And I'm not going anywhere" she smiled as she continued walking away he grinned at her as he leant against the railing taking a sip of his beer he took one last look at her as he couldn't get the imagine of her soft lips against his.
Hours later she was sitting on the beach as she watched the moon sparkle across the clear water she sighed softly as she heard footsteps stop next to her
"What are you doing here?" she asked softly as she looked up at him before back out at the water
"Well you disappeared, I was getting worried" he shrugged as he looked down at her
"I just needed some air" she answered as he moved to sit next to her in the sand
"Sam…" he said in an unconvincing voice
"What?" she said turning to face him as she looked into his brown eyes
"I know today has been hard with all most losing Jack…"
"Yep…" she said between the tears
"But he's here, he's okay and won't be going anywhere any time soon" he said seeing she was holding back the tears
"I put his life in danger when I let him help with those jellyfish" she sighed
"Sam he can make his own decisions he always has" he answered moving as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder
"I'm sure Jack doesn't blame you one bit, so you need to move forward and stop blaming yourself" he replied kissing her forehead as she rested into his shoulder
"Yeah…" she said sadly
"Come on, I'll shout you a drink at Sonny's" he said moving to stand as he held out a hand for her
"I won't be much company…" she said softly as she grabbed his hand he pulled her up
"Then I'll take you home, make you a coffee something to eat" he smiled as she looked up at him
"Thanks for today, I mean bringing Andrew out here" she answered as he reached a hand over
"You already thanked me" he smiled as he brushed the stray tear off her cheek.
"Mum?" a voice said as she turned to face him he dropped his hand quickly from her cheek
"Jack, you're supposed to be resting" she said softly as he made his way over
"I was looking for you" he said softly as he stopped in front of them
"I'm coming I was just taking a break" she said softly
"I ah didn't get a chance to thank you for today" he said turning to Toby
"Not a problem mate" he smiled
"Thanks Toby" he said reaching a hand out as he met his in a handshake Sam smiled at him
"We should get you home" she answered as he let go of Toby's hand
"I'll catch you later, take care of your Mum" Toby smiled as he turned to look at her before he walked off down the beach
"How about some pasta for tea…" she said breaking the silence as she moved towards him
"Sounds good" he smiled as they began walking along the path she turned to get one look at the man she had kissed earlier that day as he smiled at catching her eyes in his before she turned her focus back on Jack and watching where they were walking.
"So I was thinking I might go stay with Dad for a while if that's okay with you?" he asked softly as she stared into space stirring the pasta
"Mum?" he said moving towards her as he placed a hand on her shoulder she jumped slightly
"Sorry?" she asked as she looked at the confused face of her 15-year-old son
"I said I was going to go stay with Dad for a while if that's okay with you?" he said leaning against the bench
"Ah yeah of course, when were you thinking of leaving?" she answered turning off the stove
"Tomorrow, Dad's going to get a chopper for the early morning" he said watching her carefully
"Sounds good" she smiled weakly
"And then I was thinking I'd go to a strip club meet a hooker"
"Sure…" she answered as she picked up the pot
"What is wrong with you tonight?" he asked as she placed the pot down on the sink
"Nothing I'm just a bit tired that's all, why don't you go set the table and I'll bring the food over" she smiled as she brushed a hand across his cheek
"Sure but then you can tell me what's going on with you and Toby" he smirked as he moved towards the table and began setting it up.
"There's nothing going on between us" she shrugged 20 minutes later as she pushed her pasta around on her plate for the 10th time
"But you want there to be" he smirked
"I don't really want to discuss this with my 15-year-old" she sighed as she moved to stand taking her plate into the kitchen
"Mum the guys crazy about you" he answered following her as she scraped her leftover pasta into the bin
"Well he doesn't necessarily show it" she said placing her plate in the sink
"Really? How about all he's done for you and us" he said sadly
"Jack…"
"You like him and if he's too stupid to realise it then that's his loss but don't beat yourself up over it" he said moving towards her as she leant her back against the bench
"You should go get some rest, you've had a long day" she said softly
"If you don't want me to go tomorrow I can stay" he answered leaning on the bench across from her
"No its fine, it's important for you to spend some time with your Dad besides I'll be busy here at the clinic anyway" she smiled
"Are you sure?" he asked
"Absolutely, now go get some rest I'll clean up here" she answered as he moved forward pulling her into a tight hug
"What's this for?" she asked confused wrapping her arms around him
"Today just made me realise how lucky I am to have you, I love you Mum" he smiled
"I love you too Jack" she said brushing his cheek as he pulled away from the hug
"By the way that hug was worth 2 birthdays" he grinned as he made his way towards his bedroom she smirked slightly as rested against the bench as she let out a big sigh thinking over what Jack had said to her.
The next morning Sam made her way along the path as she entered the clinic
"Morning" she smiled as she moved towards her office
"What are you doing here?" Libby asked as she stopped in the doorway
"Um I work here?" she shrugged as she placed her bag down on her desk
"I just mean with Rick taking Freya to the main land and Jack having left with Andrew I didn't think you'd be coming in" she answered as she moved back Sam moved into the open area
"There's still work to be done Libby I can't just not show up because people have gone to the mainland"
"Well you could I give you the day off" she smirked
"Who works for who" Sam said shaking her head
"You haven't had a break in months Gus and I can handle the place" she smiled
"Oh…" she laughed a little
"I see what's happening here"
"What? Nothing's happening, I just think you should go have some fun let your hair down, maybe go snorkelling" she answered as Gus made his way out from the venom lab
"I don't want to go snorkelling" she said moving towards Gus
"Well maybe go see Toby then I'm sure he wouldn't mind after that kiss you shared yesterday" she smirked
"Will someone please tell me what is going on here" she said crossing her arms
"Just go down to the beach for a swim and come back later" she answered placing a hand on Sam's shoulder as she moved her towards the door
"My bag" she said stopping as Libby pushed her out the door
"You won't need it" she grinned as she pulled the door shut behind her
"Libby!" she called as she tried to open the door
"Come back later Sam!" she yelled back as she laughed she heard Sam sigh annoyed as her footsteps descended down the veranda.
"What are you doing here?" he asked as she stopped along the beach wrapping her sarong around her waist
"I was kicked out of my own clinic" she grinned
"Really, why?" he said confused
"I have no idea" she shrugged as she pushed a piece of wet hair behind her ear
"Well I'm sure it's for a good reason" he smiled as he moved towards her
"What do you know?" she said crossing her arms as he stopped in front of her
"Oh I've been sworn to secrecy by Libby" he grinned
"Should I be worried?"
"It depends but personally I wouldn't" he smiled as he moved past her they began walking along the beach.
"So I saw Jack leave this morning" he answered as they walked at a slow but matching pace
"Yeah he went to stay with Andrew for a few weeks" she smiled
"So you're kid free for a while" he laughed nudging her shoulder slightly
"I guess so" she smiled
"Well how would you feel about coming with me to the mainland overnight, go out for dinner a walk along the harbour" he stopped as he turned to face her
"Like a date?" she grinned
"I think we're a bit old to be calling it a date" he smirked
"So not like a date" she said looking at him confused as she tried to contain her smile
"How about 2 mature adults hanging out" he shrugged as he grinned slightly
"I'd love to…"
"But?" he said knowing there was one coming
"I need to stick around here, with Rick taking Freya to the mainland I need to be here in case of any emergencies" she said softly
"Sure… Another time maybe" he said sadly
"Toby…"
"I'll catch you around, I best get back to Sonny's" he answered as he went to walk off she grabbed his arm stopping him he looked down at her hand on his arm before he looked up at her
"Maybe we can meet at Sonny's for a drink later?" she asked hopeful as she let go of his arm he grabbed her hand in his missing the close contact
"Say about 2 hours?" he asked
"Sure, I'll see you then" she smiled as he pulled her hand up to his lips he placed a kiss on it as he let it go she blushed slightly as she watched him walk off.
Hi Everyone, Well here's my New Fanfic in case you haven't noticed its a 'Reef Doctors' one which is another Lisa McCune series I haven't really written anything other the BH and SP so just be patient with me and pray I'm able to write the correctly...
