I hope you like this chapter. I am really excited for the next one! As usual I will have photos to go along with this chapter up on my Pinterest (I am VersaillesPixie on there too!)
Lucius and Aria spent the remainder of the week enjoying the gorgeous little city of Versailles. Every evening they would head over to the sprawling Palace Gardens just outside of their honeymoon suite and wander the countless groves and pathways. Whenever they would head into the gardens, most of the public was already on their way out and it felt as if they always had the entire gardens to themselves. It was spectacular really, and as much as Aria and Lucius loved their equally as epic gardens back at Malfoy Manor, the gardens at Versailles were probably the only other gardens in the world that could compete for a place of love in both of their hearts.
One of their best evenings was spent wandering the gardens, the sky beginning to turn a bit dusky grey, as the two kissed in a hidden little nook off of the Queen's Grove. It was so incredibly quiet, and all that could be heard was the sounds of heavy breathing of their passion building and building until it came to that threshold that could never be walked back from. Lucius hiked up her floral dress and unzipped himself from his pants, and took his love right then and there, in the middle of their little private nook in the Gardens of Versailles. Technically public, and so all the more exhilarating. Neither cared though, since they knew no one would find them, as there hadn't been anyone around for hours. Still, Lucius kept it quick and urgent, as he held her up against the green trellis fence, her right leg wrapped around his hips, as he looked her straight into the eyes as he fucked her like the good girl she was. It had all but lasted maybe a few minutes, but left both of them breathless, and with a quick wandless spell, Lucius had them cleaned up and no-one would be the wiser. The two had walked back to their suite that night both with drunkenly happy grins on their faces.
When the day came for them to leave, both of them were truly sad to end such an amazing, romantic and dream-fulfilling honeymoon. Aria had brought up with Lucius her idea to have a weekend home somewhere in the French countryside in Versailles, and Lucius smiled at her and with a glint in his gorgeous silver eyes simply answered, "As you wish my love."
Aria knew with Lucius' love for her and his generosity she would perhaps be receiving a key to a place sooner or later, and she couldn't believe her life and how much of a dream it was with Lucius. However, as it would turn out over the next few weeks, some of Aria's new dreams were harder to accomplish than others.
Over the next few weeks, the two reacquainted themselves with their beloved Manor. While their Versailles honeymoon had been a complete fantasy come to life, they both did miss their own little palace back in England.
Aria was delighted when a new restoration project fell into her lap from a private client in London. The wealthy client, who was well acquainted with the Malfoy family, and of Aria's glowing reputation, had just bought a centuries old theatre in London. The theatre, which was a bit adjacent to Diagon Alley, and of course hidden from muggles, had been one of the grandest wizarding theaters back in the day; the time period being during the Elizabethan Era, and the time of Shakespeare. Shakespeare, while not a Wizard himself, did know about the magical world due to his influence, and had put on some plays at the theatre for the Wizarding World. So indeed, it was quite a special place and Aria couldn't wait to dive into the history of it, and supervise over the restoration of the architecture and artifacts. The end goal, according to the client who had hired Aria, was to bring the theatre back to its former glory, so that witches and wizards could once again have this spectacular place to attend and watch performances.
After one of Aria's first days on the job, during which her and the client had discussed the plans for renovation, Aria was contentedly walking down the streets of Diagon Alley. She had never really had the chance to explore the amazing place, and now that she worked right next door to it, she had loved exploring some of the shops. She loved the bookstore Flourish and Blotts and had spent quite a while in there. And then she had wandered into some of the other shops doing some window shopping. Finally she saw a food market, and in a spur of the moment decision she had decided she would pick up some food to bring home and that she would prepare dinner for Lucius, as a surprise, instead of having the house elves prepare it for them like they usually did.
Aria desperately missed Lucius whenever she was at work, and she knew he felt the same, and so she knew it would be a romantic little surprise for him. Some delicious pasta with some seafood sounded divine and so she picked up the ingrediants she needed and then used the market's fireplace in the back to Floo back home to the Manor.
Aria arrived back home and all was quiet. Lucius was out at meetings all day and she couldn't wait to surprise him with a home cooked meal. Aria went across the grand entry way and down one of the left halls to where the kitchen was. As she stepped into the large space, she put her groceries down on one of the stone countertops and began putting away the food and also letting a few of the house elves know that they wouldn't have to prepare dinner for the evening. It still felt so weird to her sometimes that she was a lady of a grand house. After she put the last of the groceries away, she felt some cramping beginning to form in her lower stomach area.
"No…please no…" she said under her breath as she put her hand on her lower stomach, as tears instantly formed in her eyes.
She hurriedly made her way to one of the nearest bathrooms, and her fear was confirmed. She wasn't pregnant. She got her period. For about ten minutes, Aria just looked at herself in the large gilded mirror that hung over the sink and cried. Her green eyes were bright with the tears that she shed and she just wanted nothing more than Lucius to hold her in his arms in that moment and let her know it would be ok.
She couldn't help but think that something might be wrong with her. While it had only been two months of them trying to conceive, and she knew for others it could take much longer, she didn't know why it wasn't happening immediately for them. She could have sworn that one night when she decided not to take her birth control potion, that she had a special feeling deep down that it was the right time. Feeling defeated, depressed and broken, Aria slowly made her way out of the Manor and down into the sprawling gardens.
She wasn't sure where she was really going, she was just wandering a bit, her eyes not really focusing on anything in particular. She was stuck in her mind, as she wondered over and over if there was something wrong with her. Perhaps she should see a Mediwitch. She and Lucius certainly had enough money to hire the best of medical wizarding world, maybe someone could help her figure out why she wasn't becoming pregnant.
Eventually before she even realized it she was outside the gate of her little private garden Lucius had made for her as a wedding gift. She hadn't been to it since their return from Versailles, and she immediately knew she would feel better once she stepped into her place of peace. As she stepped into her garden, she realized how much inspiration Lucius had taken from the gardens of Versailles, and she felt a bit better instantly at how much happiness it brought her.
She sat herself down in front of the peaceful fountain that had the golden angel in the middle of it and looked at her reflection in the water. She could see her cheeks were streaked with tears and her eyes had gone a bit puffy and so she looked away from her reflection and just laid back in the grass, staring up at the sky. The sun was beginning to set and it made the sky above her a brilliant orange and gold shade.
"Why universe? Why couldn't you let Lucius and I have a baby now? I want his child so badly," thought Aria to herself.
With that thought circling around nonstop in her head, Aria closed her eyes against the shining setting sun in the sky, and fell into a restless sleep, her body and mind exhausted and in pain; all thoughts of a romantic home cooked dinner out of her mind.
Lucius arrived home a bit later than he would have liked. He had been in what felt like countless meetings all day. All he wanted to do was see his gorgeous wife and hold her in his arms. As he arrived via Floo through the library fireplace, Lucius had expected to feel Aria's warmth immediately as he always did whenever he came home to her. He knew she was due to be home by that time, so when he arrived to find the house quiet and dark, he instantly became worried and alert.
"Aria?" He called out rather loudly, incase she was somewhere more farther away in the Manor.
He exited the library and wandered the many halls for a while calling out her name. His heart beat racing as he became more and more worried when it seemed as if no one was home.
He ran into the kitchen, and still nothing, but he saw one of the house elves there.
"Have you seen the Lady of the Manor?" He asked urgently
"Yes Sir. I saw Mrs. putting away groceries earlier. She told us elves to not prepare dinner this evening," said the shy little elf.
"Where is she now?" Lucius asked more urgently.
"I does not know sir," said the elf, as it cowered back, as if scared it would get beaten for not knowing.
Lucius didn't say anything more, but ran out the backdoor of the Manor and out into the gardens. With a flick of his wand, he had lit up every candle and torch throughout the garden so that he could see, as without the light it would be rather dark.
"Aria!" Lucius called out. Nothing.
He knew where he would first check though. Her garden. He knew that was one of her favorite spots and so that would be the first place he looked. He prayed she was there, as he was now full on terrified. With everything that had happened in their past, this is why he hated to be apart from her.
After running straight to the back of the gardens where her private little garden was, Lucius opened the tiny wooden door that was hidden amongst the shrubs and instantly saw her petit body lying on the grass in front of the fountain…she looked very still…too still and it caused his breath to become stuck in his throat.
"Aria!" He gasped as he raced over to her, his black cloak billowing behind him and then pooling around the both of them when he knelt over her.
As he leaned over her, his heart pounding in his chest, he realized her eyelashes looked a bit wet as they were shining in the light of some of the floating candles around the garden. He also noticed she was breathing. Thank the Gods he thought to himself as he breathed out a huge sigh of relief from the breath he had been holding.
Ever so softly he reached his right hand up to gently caress her cheek.
"My love.." He said as she roused from her sleep at the feeling of him touching her gently.
"Lucius…" she mumbled a bit as her eyes fluttered open. "What time is it….I…." She said so confused. Clearly she had forgotten she had been outside in her garden.
"What are you doing out here so late my love? You're cold," he said as he helped her up into a sitting position, touching her skin he had noticed it was cold and covered in gooseflesh. He removed his cloak from himself and wrapped it around her tightly as he drew her into his arms, as they both still sat on the grass.
She didn't say anything at first, just buried her face into his neck and wrapped her arms around him tightly, as if she was afraid and desperate for his comfort. As she nuzzled into his neck he felt her eyelashes, wet against his neck, and he heard her sniffle a bit as she breathed in his scent, trying to calm herself.
"Aria…you're scaring me…what's happened?" Lucius said as he held her even more tightly, letting her know he was here now, and that he wouldn't let her go.
"I'm….not pregnant…again," she said, now full on crying into where she was buried between his neck and shoulder.
Lucius closed his eyes tight against what Aria was saying to him. He didn't want to show too much emotion as he wanted to be strong for her again. He was disappointed, but of course not in her, but only because he wanted this baby with her just as much as she did.
"Oh my love.."he said gently, as she continued to cry onto his shoulder. "Shhh it's okay." He said as he stroked her soft hair, and squeezing her tight.
"No it's not! There's something wrong with me!" She sobbed.
"No there's not!" Lucius said with utmost certainty. "Aria look at me," he said as he took her by the shoulders finally and moved back so that he could look at her in the eyes by the dim light of the candles in the garden.
Aria raised her head slowly and reluctantly, not wanting Lucius to see her tears and her red eyes.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with you Aria. There has never been and there never will be. It's only been two months of trying…some couples have to go through many more months," he said trying to reassure her.
"And some couples can get pregnant on the first try," she said looking down at the ground. "Why can't that be me? Isn't our love the strongest love in the universe? We created love! All I want is to grow a piece of you inside of me…a piece of our love," she explained desperately.
Lucius swallowed hard, as his emotions started to really bubble up inside of him. He was quite touched by her beautiful words. Growing a piece of him…and their love inside of her. He realized how deeply he truly wanted that, in that moment.
"I need that too my love. So badly," he said as he reached to her face to caress her cheek gently, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "We won't stop trying. I promise you. It will happen soon, trust me."
Aria nodded her head, wanting so badly to have faith in that. "I just thought our love would be powerful enough."
"It is, my darling. Don't doubt us just yet," he said with a small smirk.
The sight of his smile made her smile ever so slightly back, and just the sight of it made Lucius' heart feel instantly lighter.
"Also…speaking of our love and us being the creators of it…I have something to tell you…but first…let's get you inside and some food into you," Lucius said as he stood up slowly, his legs slightly sore from sitting on the ground at an awkward angle. He reached his hands out so that he could help Aria to her feet as well, and he led them out of her little garden, and back up through the main gardens and back inside into the warmth of the Manor.
Aria stood awkwardly when they got inside, her face back to being a bit forlorn and her body looking so tiny as she was still wrapped up in Lucius' cloak that seemed to be 10 sizes too big for her. "Aw…I was going to surprise you with a home cooked meal…" Aria said, sounding rather sad that she hadn't been able to surprise him.
"Well…how about I cook you some dinner then? I want you to go upstairs to the library and relax by the fire. Or maybe even take a bath?" He said sweetly.
"But Lucius," she started to object. Had he even ever cooked a meal before? She didn't ever doubt him in anything, but this may have been the first time.
He cut her off by raising his hand up to his lips. "Shhh…go relax my love." He said as he slowly walked away from her as he headed off to the kitchens.
Aria couldn't object anymore. Her romantic husband was determined to lift her spirits, and so she blushed a bit at his sweetness and made her way upstairs, still wrapped up in his cloak which she cuddled tight into her body as she inhaled his musky, delicious scent which engulfed her from the fabric of his cloak.
She took a rather nice, long bath which soothed her aching body, heart and mind, and after she got out and dried herself off, she slipped on one of her silk robes and made her way back downstairs where she saw the chandelier in the grand dining room had been lit. She stepped through the archway and saw the table set gorgeously for two people, with two plates of hot pasta and a bottle of wine set out. It was so romantic and she couldn't believe Lucius had done this all for her…he had cooked!
She was startled a bit as she felt him suddenly wrap his arms around her, as he had noticed she had come downstairs. "Dinner is served my love," he whispered in her ear, as he held her from behind, his hands wrapping around her tiny waist.
Aria turned around in his arms and looked up into his eyes with a sweet smile on her lips. "Thank you for doing this for me…for saving my dinner plans! I can't believe you cooked," she giggled as she kissed him on the lips briefly.
"I think I am competent enough to know how to boil some water," he said rolling his eyes a bit. "However, I must admit I did have to ask one of the elves to help me prepare the seafood to go in it…" he admitted.
"That's okay, I am still proud of you. And thank you so much for cooking for me my sweet husband," she said giving him one last, long kiss before she turned to make her way to the table to eat the delicious meal he had prepared.
The two enjoyed their meal. Aria was so impressed with what Lucius had put together and it was really nice to be able to take their minds off of the stressful parts of their lives that they were going through; especially Aria. The wine helped too, Aria being a bit more indulgent then usual, as she was trying to drown her sorrows in the delicious red pinot noir from France.
By the end of the meal she was properly tipsy, and her eyes were beginning to get heavy with exhaustion, cramping and her full stomach.
"We should get you some rest my love," Lucius said as he snapped his fingers causing all of the dishes to be cleared from the table magically. "But there is one thing I did want to talk to you about before we go to bed. I think it'll cheer your spirits up even more," he said as he leaned forward a bit in his chair, almost as if he was going to tell her a secret.
Aria perked up a bit, some of her tiredness dissipating at her wanting to hear what Lucius wanted to tell her.
"Oh?" She said curiously.
"Remember how I told you before our Versailles honeymoon how there was another place I wanted to take you after our trip…almost like a second honeymoon in a way," he said, his eyes shining with excitement.
"I think so," Aria said, trying to rack her brain for that conversation. She believed she recalled it, but she was so tipsy off of the wine that it was coming in fuzzy.
"Well…I want to take us back. Back in time. To the night our love was born….to the night love for the Universe was born…" he said slowly, so that she could process what she was saying.
Aria's eyes opened wide immediately and her heart started beating quickly in her chest. She couldn't believe what he was saying. When Aria had found the Time Turner up in the attic of the Manor and had used it during Christmas to give Lucius an amazing new memory for his gift, while he had been grateful for what she had done, he had made it clear that they must't trifle with time anymore using the Time Turner, as it could be extremely dangerous.
"But Lucius…you said we shouldn't use the Time Turner anymore…"she said, her eyes still wide with wonder. "Don't get me wrong, I would love to go back to see that moment. It would be the most wondrous thing to see."
"I know I had said that it is dangerous to use the Time Turner…and I still stand by that statement…but ever since we discovered what was in that book, after reading what my past self had written and what it means for us, it's been something I can't stop thinking about. Something I have thought of deeply for these months since finding out the truth about our past. I want to…no…I need to experience this with you. To see it with our own eyes," he declared.
Aria's brain was still so fuzzy from the wine, and now with this amazing possibility, that she didn't have any words to say in that moment. Lucius was patient however and waited for her to collect her thoughts as he reached across the table to gently take her hand in his and caress it gently with his thumb as she thought about everything.
"I would love to," she said finally. That was all she could think to say as she gripped his hand in hers tightly.
"I've thought so much about it, and I am sure we would be able to keep hidden, but still be able to see everything. It will be dark when we go…out in the wilderness, with only our past selves around. It will be easy to hide," he said. "I just have to be certain how many times exactly it would take to turn the Time Turner to get us all the way back to the days of the druids. It will be millennia," he said rather seriously.
"Has anyone ever traveled that far back before?" Aria said, now suddenly becoming slightly nervous.
"I don't know..I would think so. But I have to be exact. I need a few more weeks of research to make sure I get it just right, I think," he said as he looked off into the distance as if he was already thinking about it.
"That will give me enough time to finish my restoration job with the theatre," Aria said, as she remembered she did have a commitment to that job first.
"Perfect. It will be right around your birthday then," he smiled.
He was right Aria's birthday was in August, on the 10th to be exact. And it would be the most magical birthday gift imaginable, to be able to witness such a beautiful thing.
"I can't believe this is really happening," Aria said as she laid her head back against the head of her chair and looked up at the gorgeous crystal chandelier above, mesmerized by the burning candles in it, as she thought about how excited she was. She was also slightly nervous for some reason, and she wasn't sure if was because she would be witnessing something so primal and so incredible it was almost too much to bear, or the fact that they would technically be spying on their past selves, or the fact that she would be traveling back thousands of years.
"I was waiting for the right moment to tell you my idea, and today it seemed as if you could use the boost of happiness my angel," he said romantically as he suddenly got up from his chair and made his way to where she sat. "Now come with me as I take you to bed, and hold you in my arms until you fall asleep."
Lucius never failed to amaze Aria with his romanticism and love for her. Whether it was the wine, her period that had come that day or the fact that he was just so damn amazing to her, she shed a few tears as she got up from her chair and immediately wrapped her arms around him and held him so tightly, as if she would never let go, and just cried into his chest. Half happy, half sad tears. Her emotions on a wild rollercoaster.
Lucius held her back tightly and then scooped her up into his arms and carried her all the way back upstairs, as he whispered sweet words of comfort into her ear. By the time he had made it upstairs into their bedroom, Aria was already fast asleep. The emotions and news of the day had finally taken a toll on her, but one thing was for certain; Lucius would always be there for her and he would never, ever break that promise.
