A/N: Eklypse22 here with a new story. This takes place in a similar universe to Origin of the Chief. The main difference is that the whole 'coming darkness' thing never happened, but Connor has Aura, as does his cousins, and Ash. However, it is weak compared to the Aura Connor established in Origin (but still kinda strong).
Also, I do not own this concept of Hyper Evolution. The idea for how it works and how to access it belongs to FrickinShark, link to his profile here. I obtained the idea while reading his original version of 'The Upsilon Tournament'. Other ideas were spawned from my reading of it and I suggest you check it out. Unfortunately, it and its Rewrite have been discontinued, but what is there is amazing (in my opinion). If you want a more in-depth description of Hyper Evolution, read the second chapter from the original work.
In addition, the Four Move Rule is getting thrown out the window. I don't get why they implement it in the anime.
Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon, nor do I own Pokémon Uranium or Pokémon Insurgence. I do however own the Fakémon that I have created, but not the ones created in Uranium and Insurgence.

Atop Mt. Silver…
Four people are looking over a large clearing. The land is filled with Pokémon, none of them native to the mountain. They seemed to be fighting against one another, in a version of organized chaos. The four people, all young men, were Pokémon Trainers, and the creatures below were their partners. About 70 of these Pokémon were present, engaging in many different training activities. Surprisingly, this wasn't even the entirety of these men's teams. Now, enough about the Pokémon and onto their Trainers.
The man on the far left was wearing a red and white short-sleeved jacket, a hat with matching colors, a black undershirt and gloves, navy blue jeans, and red shoes. (Red's R/B/Y outfit) His eyes were the color of blood, and despite the somewhat thin attire, he was not affected by the frigid temperature and harsh environment of Mt. Silver. In fact, none of the Trainers here were.
To his right was a man wearing a matching outfit, yet it was yellow where the previous was red. His eyes were a deep green, and he looked to be the eldest of the group. To his right was another Trainer in matching clothes, this time with blue. He had eyes the color of the deep sea, a blue that was approaching navy but not quite there.
And finally, the last man was wearing pink, and his eyes were of a brown color. On his shoulder rested an Eevee. Now, back to the Pokémon. Like their Trainers, they too do not feel uncomfortable in the cold. This was due to the many years they have spent on the mountain, training and getting stronger. There were creatures of all shapes and sizes, ranging from the small Pikachu and Croagunk to the large Tyranitar and Snorlax. The variety was astounding, and all of these marvelous Pokémon were assisting each other.
The four Trainers, believing that their Pokémon have had enough for the day, walked down from their perch high above. All of the creatures sensed their movement, and ceased their training. The men looked at them and nodded, continuing to walk towards the center of the clearing. The Pokémon all came in closer, huddling around their Trainers. Without saying a word, the creatures and people began to glow in a brilliant blue light, and vanished.

?...
The setting has changed to a room, brightly lit and spacious. In a flash of blue light, four men and many, many Pokémon suddenly appear. The group disperses, all of the Pokémon going through doors that lead to other many different places. Each of their destinations is a room tailored to each of the creatures preferences. Some Pokémon, however, stayed behind with their Trainers. The Eevee remained on her Trainer's shoulder, and a Pikachu climbed up onto his Trainer's shoulder, the man wearing red. A Charizard stood by the side of the man in yellow, as does a Milotic. A Greninja joins the Pikachu with the Trainer in red. A Croagunk and a shiny Lopunny go to their Trainer, the one in pink. And finally, the man in blue is joined by a Lucario and Gallade.
"You guys sure worked your butts off, huh?" The man in blue said, cracking his knuckles and rolling out his shoulders. His Lucario and Gallade waved their hand/paw, implying that it had been nothing for them. "Yeah right. I can tell you're exhausted." The man replied, chuckling. He turned to the man in pink. "Yo, how is Lopunny doing?"
The Trainer who was asked this question turned to face the man in blue. "She's a little tired, worked herself to the bone. She might be able to beat Lucario in a battle soon." The Lopunny then gave her Trainer a look of fake disbelief. The face said: 'Soon? I'm that weak?' Her Trainer chuckled. "Well then, why don't you go and challenge him then?" Lopunny then took a step back, shaking her head violently.
The Lucario walked towards her, and offered his hand. Smiling, the rabbit Pokémon took it, and walked off with the Fighting/Steel-type. The man in yellow looked at them, smiling. He then turned to their respective Trainers (blue and pink). "I still remember the day you two got them. You were so excited to get your Starter Pokémon, and those two fit perfectly with you. Heck, you even got Lucario set up with Lopunny." He said, pointing out the two Pokémon's relationship. "But your bond is still nothing compared to what I have with Charizard over here." He stated, petting the Fire/NOT-Dragon's head.
The man in blue rolled his eyes. "Sure, keep telling yourself that. But how strong is your dragon, huh? Oh wait, he isn't a dragon, is he? And despite the advantage, Lucario still kicked his ass."
"Oh, shut it! You got lucky with that Dragon Pulse."
"Lucky? Lucario's aim was perfect with that attack! He nailed your Mega X!"
The Trainer in pink walked in between the two, using his arms to push them apart. "Can we not argue today? I've had enough of you two."
The man in red finally spoke. He was ignoring the other three, petting his Pikachu, until the man in pink stepped in. "You know, it's kinda embarrassing that the youngest here is acting like the responsible one."
The men in yellow and blue turned to the Trainer in red, ready to explode. But they died down quickly when the Greninja gave them a look. They sighed in unison, and spoke in unison. "We're sorry…"
The man clapped his hands together like a child. "Good! Now, I'm hungry. Who wants some dinner?" He then ran off and through a door. Shortly, he reappeared. "Whoops, wrong one!" He took off again, this time through the correct door.
The other three Trainers followed, also a bit peckish. Once through the door, they were inside of a gorgeous space. It was open-concept, with a large kitchen to the right, a spacious dining room to the left, and ahead, a living room complete with an advanced television and gaming set, multiple couches and coffee tables, and a floor-to-ceiling window completely taking up the entire wall opposite the door. It displayed possibly the most beautiful view in the world. Outside you could see the rest of the mountain range that Mt. Silver was a part of, and the sun setting over the horizon, painting the sky with a majestic display of color. The Trainer in red, forgetting about dinner, was standing by the window, soaking in the perfect view. The other three walked up and did the same.
The complex was built into the side of Mt. Silver, with no way in or out besides teleportation. It was the home of these four Trainers and their Pokémon. They have been living here for almost five years. Despite how many times they see this view of the sunset, it amazes them every time.
After dinner, the group of Trainers were sitting on the couches in the living room.
"It's been almost five years…" the man in blue muttered.
"What was that?" The man in pink asked, not catching what the other had said.
"I was just saying that it's been almost five years since that day. Can you believe it, Ashton?"
The man in pink, now identified as Ashton, shook his head. "I can't, cousin. Five years? That's a long time, right Tregg?"
Tregg, being the Trainer in yellow, nodded. "Yeah, Connor's right (Connor is the man in blue). It is hard to believe." He then closed his eyes. "Hey Ash, why did we go along with Connor's plan in the first place?"
The Trainer in red, known as Ash (this one is Ketchum, not Ashton) shrugged. "I don't know. But hey, it got Team Rocket off our backs, didn't it?"
Tregg sighed. "Yeah, I guess it did. But I still don't like what it did to our friends." He then began remembering what had happened that fateful day almost half a decade ago.
Flashback
The group of four Trainers were at Spear Pillar, the ancient structure at the peak of Mt. Coronet. They were in a tight circle, with their backs to each other. They were surrounded by men in black uniforms with red 'R's on the chest. The men's Pokémon were in terrible shape, pushed to their limit and exhausted.
"When did they get this good?" asked Ash, in disbelief at how they were defeated by just a group of Team Rocket grunts.
"I don't know, but I don't like it…" replied Ashton.
"Guys, I got a plan." Connor said. "Lucario, use your Aura to shield us while I talk, okay bud?" His Pokémon nodded, and erected an azure barrier. No amount of attacks from Team Rocket could bring it down. "Okay, so Team Rocket keeps coming after us because they perceive us as a threat to their plans. They want us out of the picture for good."
"We know that already, get to the point!" said Tregg, getting anxious.
"Well, why don't we let them?" Connor said.
"What?! How will letting them kill us get us out of this mess?" asked Ashton incredulously.
"We fake our deaths, simple. We can use the Aura we gained from accessing Hyper Evolution to make Substitutes and Teleport simultaneously to fool them."
Ash thought for a moment. "That is a good idea, but what about our friends and family?"
Connor sighed. "Team Rocket won't go after them if we are gone. Only we are threats to them. And for when they grieve, let them. We can go into hiding and figure out how to take down the Rockets from the shadows."
Tregg raised an eyebrow. "This seems well thought out for a plan that just popped into your brain, Connor."
"Who said I just came up with it now? I've been working on this idea for a while now. When I give the signal, follow me. Return your Pokémon, and do as I do. When I click my tongue, use the Substitute/Teleport combo."
The group nodded, still apprehensive but willing to follow through with the plan. "Lucario, let down the shield." Connor ordered, and his partner complied. "Now!" he yelled, returning his Pokémon and running to the edge of Spear Pillar.
Ash, Tregg, and Ashton followed. When they reached the edge, they were looking at a looooong drop. They turned around to see the Rockets parting, letting someone pass. Upon seeing who it was, the four Trainers scowled.
"Well well well, look what we have here," the man said in a cold, calculating voice. "Ash Ketchum, Champion of Kanto and Alola, Connor Prescott, Champion of Nedar, Tregg Umbrianna, Champion of Sodale and cousin of Connor, and Ashton Umbrianna, Tregg's brother and Elite Four member of Sodale. You four are cornered, with nowhere to run. I must say, it's been an honor going toe-to-toe with you in this mini-war we have going on here. But unfortunately, it must come to an end." He sent out his Nidoking. "Nidoking, Hyper Beam."
The group stood still, trusting in Connor. Before the blast hit, Connor clicked his tongue, the sound went unheard by the Rockets, but his fellow Trainers and friends heard it.
When the dust settled, a good chunk of Spear Pillar was missing, blown to rubble. Giovanni and the Team Rocket grunts looked over the edge, and grinned evilly. Down below were the lifeless bodies of the four Trainers that have been thorns in his side for years. He looked up, and saw the news helicopters circling. He turned and left, his grunts close behind.
The news was covering what was going on over at Spear Pillar live. When the Hyper Beam struck, the Pokémon world went silent. When the camera zoomed in on the bodies of the four brave Trainers, all of their friends watching the coverage were overtaken by shock, and soon after, grief and sorrow.
The whole world grieved the loss of the four great Trainers. Ash Ketchum, 20. Tregg Umbrianna, 21. Ashton Umbrianna, 18. Connor Prescott, 18. All murdered in cold blood by Giovanni Sakaki, leader of the crime syndicate Team Rocket. Their titles were given to Trainers who were deemed worthy. Ash's title as Champion of Kanto was handed to Lance, his title for Alola was handed to Professor Kukui. Tregg's title was handed to a woman from Sodale. Connor's was handed to a man named Kris.
Flashback End
After the 'deaths' of the Trainers, Ash had rechallenged the Kanto and Alola Leagues under the alias Red Satoshi. The others also created names for use when in public. Ashton was Ringo Umbra, Tregg was Flare Umbra, and Connor was Eclipse Gryffith. For a time, Connor separated from his cousins and Ash, going on a journey through Regions that the others have never heard of. He became Champion of Torren and Tandor. He also gained the title as Augur of Torren, but handed it down to a young Trainer named Alex (made up name), the son of the First Augur of Torren. His titles were not known by his fellow 'dead men'.
Enough about these Trainers, though. Let's see how the League is handling matters.

Present day, Pokémon League Headquarters…
An elderly man was sitting at the end of a table. There were five chairs on each side, and one opposite of him. Four of the chairs on each side were occupied, as was the one across from him. There was Lance, Champion of the Johto Region, and Acting Champion of Kanto while the current one was on leave. Also seated are the Co-Champions of Hoenn: Steven and Wallace. Next was Cynthia, Champion of Sinnoh, and then the Co-Champions of Unova: Alder and Iris. Diantha of Kalos was next, and lastly Leon, the Undefeated Champion of Galar (I don't know why they say undefeatable, he can get beat). They all seemed to be in a meeting of some sort.
"…There is one final matter I would like to discuss. I want the League to host an Inter-Regional Tournament in memoriam of our fallen Champions. Further planning is being postponed, as I wanted your opinions on the matter before we make it official. All in favor say 'Aye'."
All of the people present raised their hands and said 'Aye'.
Goodshow smiled. "Wonderful. Now, I will send out notices to possible competitors at the beginning of next year. We will need to prepare for this event. Anybody have a place in mind?"
Lance spoke up. "Why don't we hold it at the base of Mt. Silver?"
"Good idea. Any objections?" Goodshow asked, looking around the table. There were no objections. "Very good. Construction will begin as soon as possible. Hopefully, we can get the tournament started by the Vernal Equinox. I hope to commence it then. Meeting adjourned."
All of the Champions stood and left. Soon, Goodshow was alone in the room, left to his thoughts. 'I wonder… should I invite the mysterious Silent Legends of Mt. Silver?"

Timeskip: New Year's Eve, Mt. Silver…
Tregg, Ash, Connor, and Ashton were all watching the TV. The time was 12:57, and the ball was only three minutes from dropping in Unova. Soon there was only two minutes. Then one. Then the last five seconds.
"5… 4… 3… 2… 1… HAPPY NEW YEEEAAARRR!" They yelled, celebrating. Their festivities were cut short, however, when in sync with the change in year, their Pokédexes all went off.
"I wonder what that could be," said Tregg, checking his 'Dex. The others did the same. Their eyes widened when they read the message.
'Dear Esteemed Trainer,
'You have been invited to compete in the upcoming Inter-Regional Tournament held in memoriam of the late Champions Tregg Umbrianna, Ash Ketchum, Connor Prescott, and Elite Four Ashton Umbrianna. The tournament will be held this upcoming spring, on March 20th, located at the western base of Mt. Silver. Since you have been invited, the carrier limits upon you have been lifted, if they haven't been already. I expect you to bring your A-game to this event. All of the Regional Champions, Elite Four, and Gym Leaders will be participating. May the best Trainer win!
Signed: Charles Goodshow, President of the Pokémon League'
The four were speechless for a moment. They all looked at each other, then back at the message, and back to each other again. After doing this for a good five minutes, they broke out of the silent spell.
"So, who's going?" Connor asked calmly. All four Trainers raised their hands. "I guess that settles it."
Ashton rubbed his chin. "Should we use Hyper Evolution?"
Ash shook his head. "I don't think it would be fair, unless we go against each other."
Tregg and Connor nodded. "Agreed."

Nedar Region: Soullight City…
A young woman with black hair and blue eyes was sitting on a couch in the living room of her house. She was also watching the ball drop in Unova. Curled up right next to her was her first Pokémon: a Luxray. On his collar was a yellow, blue, and black stone. It had a similar design to the stone on the Trainer's necklace. She held a Key Stone, and her Pokémon a Luxranite. She was absentmindedly petting her lynx Pokémon when her Pokédex went off. She went to her messages as found one identical to the one sent out across the world.
But at the end, there was a postscript. It read:
'PS: I have exempted the League Trainers of Nedar and Sodale from competing, as a reprieve in honor of their Champions' deaths. I am sorry for your loss, Lexel. I can only speculate as to how much pain you went through after Connor's death.'
The reminder of the man's death hit the woman, named Lexel Swift, like a freight train. She had travelled with him, Ashton, and Tregg when they started out on their journey (Tregg excluded). They were great friends. Connor went all the way to the top, beating Kris and becoming Champion. Then, two years later, he was murdered by Giovanni and Team Rocket. She saw water dripping onto her 'Dex, and realized they were her own tears. Her Luxray sensed her sorrow, and woke up. He did his best to comfort her. She brought the Electric-type into a hug, sobbing into his fur.
She received another message, this time from a chat stream with some of her friends. The stream was between her, a woman nicknamed Menzie, and another named Kaylee. They were reaching out to see if she was alright. They were also contacted about the tournament, and were invited as guests of honor. This is because of their relationships to the deceased ChampiThey said that they would be there for her and to keep company. Lexel smiled a sad smile at this. Even though her best friend was gone, her other friends were helping fill that unfillable gap. She decided that she would attend the tournament as a spectator. Confident yet still sad, she stretched and laid down fully on the couch, turning off the TV. Luxray snuggled up to her, and they fell asleep.

Mt. Silver…
The four Trainers summoned their Pokémon to the big room that they arrived at the house in. Once everyone was present, the four Trainers sent out others from their Pokéballs. All of them were of Legendary status. Tregg released Dialga, Rayquaza, and his signature Pokémon during his reign as Sodale Champion: Steelagon (This Fakémon does not belong to me, it is the creation of my friend DragonFlare16. Link to his profile here). Ashton sent out Entei. Ash revealed Mewtwo, Melmetal, Naganadel, and Latias. Connor's were Deoxys, Necrozma, Zacian, and Palkia.
Tregg counted Connor's Legends. "Uh… you're missing one, cuz."
Connor grinned. "No, I'm not."
Tregg raised an eyebrow. "Yeah. You are."
Connor's grin widened. "Look behind you."
Tregg sighed, and turned around. He saw nothing. While turning back to face Connor, he said, "Ha ha, very fun- Holy shit!" In the midst of his turn, a creature appeared in front of his face. It was floating in front of him.
Connor held back a laugh, but failed. "Hey there, Montgomery. How was your inter-dimensional training?"
Montgomery spoke to his Trainer telepathically. 'It went well, but I think the laws of those dimensions are becoming too tight for me…'
Connor sighed. "Well, then blow that one to smithereens and find a new one." He then looked back at Tregg. "Have you recovered from your 'heart attack' yet?"
"NO!"
Ash snuck a peak at Connor's belt, and noticed four other Pokéballs that still indicated that they were full. "Hey, Connor. You gonna send out the rest?"
"Huh?" the Trainer in blue questioned. Ash motioned to his belt. "Aaahhh… Sorry, no. These buds are from my time in Torren and Tandor. They aren't the most keen on people other than me and my team."
All three other trainers were shocked. "You never told us you went to Torren and Tandor." Tregg said. "More importantly, what and where is Torren and Tandor?"
"Other regions. Apparently, you've never heard of them. I'll keep them as a secret for now."
Ashton whined like a child. "You're so mean…"
Ash wondered. "What were you even doing there?"
"Just training. We aren't Champions anymore, but I still want to have some challenges."
Ash was dumbfounded. "Those Regions are a challenge for you?!"
"Yeah, the cults there were insane."
Tregg couldn't believe what he was hearing. "There were CULTS?!"
"Yeah. One of them even tried to summon Rayquaza. But, well… they couldn't."
Tregg laughed. "Yeah. He's with me."
"That he is, ex-Champ."
Tregg's smile got turned upside down. "Hey, you lost your title too! At least Ash regained his."
"Bruh, I became Champion of Torren and Tandor during my travels." Connor said with a smug smirk.
"NANI?!" the other three Trainers exclaimed, now shocked more than ever.
In their discussion, they completely forgot about the masses of Pokémon in the room. The Pokémon were looking on in complete confusion, wondering what their Trainers were talking about. Before long, the humans recovered from their shock (excluding Connor). Then, they turned towards the many creatures.
Ash cleared his throat before speaking. "We have a brief announcement for you all: We will be attending a tournament in just under three months time."
At the word 'tournament', all of the Pokémon erupted in a series of battle cries. They have been waiting for something like this, a chance to stretch their legs, to test their strength. Training was all well and good, but it did little to simulate the true competitive nature of battles. Even the occasional friendly battle held within the group wasn't enough. Sure, Trainers came to the peak to challenge the 'Silent Legends of Mt. Silver' every once in a blue moon, but they weren't tough opponents. Hopefully this tournament would give them something that they would have to work extra hard for.
Some of the Pokémon were hoping that they could see some of their old travelling companions. The rivals they had during their journeys were no longer with them, after the Spear Pillar incident. Or rather, they were no longer with their rivals.
That was the one concern for the four Trainers. They did not want to get recognized by the public. It would incite utter chaos. Even if they showed their true identities to their old friends, they would likely be furious and the girls, *shudder* the girls would be the worst.
