NOW HAVE A HAPPY READING...
A shocked whisper came out from Daya's throat as...
Daya: maaji aap yahan! (A\N: The lady whom Abhijeet met in Abhijeet ka inteqaam series)
The elderly woman now came out from shocked phase and asked in surprised tone...
Maaji: arey Daya tum yahan!
Daya: haan woh main Abhijeet... Abhijeet... (after some moments of silence)... Abhijeet se milne aaya hoon...
Maaji(in meaningful tone): Abhijeet se milne? Itne dino baad?
Daya looked up towards her in moist gaze but said nothing. Gayatri aka Maaji too did not say anything. Some moments were spend in complete silence. Only the tick tick sound of the wall clock of the house were the only sound which could be heard in that deep silence.
Abhijeet, who was sitting in his own room, now came out in the hall as neither any visitor entered the house nor Gayatri returned. He closed the book silently and came out in the hall, only to get the shock of the life!
He stopped at his tracks seeing his brother outside. Gayatri was standing near the door silently and Daya was staring towards him, with moist gaze and without any blink! He was not at all ready for seeing him here! The face, which he had presumed to fade away with the passing away of time, had come again in front of his eyes unexpectedly! So he was shocked for some moments.
But as soon as the temporary trance of that some moments ended, Abhijeet felt a jerk inside him. He did not want to see this person... never! As soon as this thought entered, he dammed his emotions and slowly turned back to go to his room. But he was compelled to stop as that ever known voice entered his ears.
"Abhijeet!"
Daya called him! He was still standing outside, being understood that he was not really welcomed in this house. He had not said anything till then but when Abhijeet turned to go away again, he felt that if Abhijeet really leave this time, he would never be able to get him back... he... he just automatically called him. But he was shocked to see that till now, even after all these, his one call had the ability to stop his brother on his tracks!
Abhijeet stopped listening Daya's voice and then slowly turned towards him. And then he came closer to him, near the door. A light smile came out on Daya's lips listening this. Did this mean that Abhijeet still love him? He still had had some place in his heart for him? A faint ray of hope appeared in his heart and he said in desperate tone...
Daya: Abhi... us raat mujhse galti ho gaya tha... main samajh nahin paya tha... main actually...
No, he was not able to complete his sentence as Abhijeet, all of a sudden, closed the door on his face, keeping his eyes straight on his eyes. Daya stepped a bit backwards in shock! The door closing sound was still ringing in his ears. He had never imagined that Abhijeet would reply him this way, despite saying nothing. He was nowhere in Abhijeet's life and Abhijeet did not have any words left with him.
He was not able to go away from that place. He remained standing there, in front of Abhijeet's mother's house. He was feeling totally abandoned today but still he could not leave the hope that perhaps that door would open again. Perhaps somebody would talk with him. Perhaps the scattered silence around him would end someway. With these hopes in his heart, he remained standing outside the house, while getting drenched in the light rain. But tonight nobody had talked with him, nor nobody called him inside... and within this endless wait, a new fresh morning had peeped in the rain drenched city of Mumbai!
But Daya was standing there till then, like a lifeless statue. He did not know for whom or for which hope... but he was there. Finally the main door of the house opened, and Gayatri came out from the house, making Daya's eyes bright with hope. Did she come out to take him inside after this whole night's wait? Gayatri came in front of him and asked in calm tone...
Gayatri: kya tum puri raat yahin par khade the?... (Daya nodded)... par kyun?
Daya did not understand what to say in reply. Would everything become normal again if he confess why he was standing there since last night. Would he get back the place he had lost? He just grabbed her hand tightly yet silently. He really needed the support of this hand in this scattered moment of his life. Gayatri's eyes too became moist after this, after all she was a mother figure for this man too. But sometimes in life, the reality appeared so harshly in life, that it made the person more strong and tough, sometimes cruel too. The old time could not be got back! She knew this very clearly, so she just got her hand free slowly and said in a calm tone...
Gayatri: Daya... is tarah yahan khade rehne se kuch nahin hoga... kuch darwaze shayad puri zindagi ke liye hi bandh ho jati hain... Abhijeet ne mujhe kabhi nahin bataya ki us raat exactly hua kya tha... mujhe Purvi se pata chala tha... main tumse jhooth nahin bolungi, mujhe waqai mein tum par bohot gussa aaya tha... jaise ki yeh ek sach hain, ek sach yeh bhi hain ki uske baad aaj tak kabhi hhi Abhijeet ne tumhari naam tak bhi zuban par nahin laya hain ek baar bhi... main nahin chahti ki tum apna waqt barbaad karke yahan aao... kyun ki koi faida nahin hain... chahe tumne Abhijeet ke saath jo bhi kiye ho, main yeh bhi janti hoon ki dil se ek bohot accha insan ho... tumhe aur bhi dost mil jayenge agar chaho to... Abhijeet tumhare saath tha ek waqt tak, jab tak tumhe zaroorat thi... lekin itne dino mein yeh accho tarah se maloom pad gaya hain ki ab woh zaroorat bhi utna nahin hain... isliye please yahan mat aana ab... main bas itna hi chahti hoon ki mere dono bete hi khush rahe... Abhijeet bhi... (after a moment of silence)... aur tum bhi Daya!
Saying this she turned toward the house to enter. Sometimes it was better to draw the conclusion too early before the matter got bitter. But she stopped as Daya said in a firm and strong tone from behind...
Daya: lekin main aise akele khush nahin reh paunga... main janta hoon ki mujhse bohot badi galti ho gayi hain aur shayad main use kabhi sudhar nahin sakta ab... lekin tab bhi... main aaunga yahan... roz aaunga... roz intezaar karunga... shayad kisi din to darwaza kholenge aap log... shayad kisi din Abhijeet bhi baat karega mujhse... shayad kisi din us guzra hua purane waqt ko wapas paunga main... main apni puri zindagi bhar us ek din ki intezaar karunga jab yeh sab hoga...
Saying this he did not wait anymore but left from the place, emptying the road in front of Gayatri. But she knew that this was not the final leave. Daya would return here. Daya wouls certainly return here, everyday. She knew this boy. She knew this firm voice of him. She knew that until he got finished totally from inside, he would return here again and again!
But she knew Abhijeet also. She knew his icy cold strong mind also. She knew how terrible Abhijeet's silence could be. She was really feeling scared. Would really Daya's wait end someday? Or everything would end behind this mask of this wait? These questions were hitting her from inside and the morning was standing, answerless!
The term distance was something which could not be measured by the length of road or something like that. If the mental distance was huge, then how less the physical distance may be, one could never reach to his dear one. Daya felt this again and again nowadays. Especially then, when he remained standing there, outside Abhijeet's mother's house in darkness. He just remained staring towards the window of Abhijeet's bedroom, to get one single glance of his brother, but nowadays Abhijeet never came near the window, and if anytime he did so absent mindedly, he moved away in hurry or pulled on the curtains over the window. Forget about talking, Abhijeet really did not want to see him also now. Perhaps he did not have any different feelings for him now except of a stranger.
Within this silence, gradually two more months had passed away in the city. And during this period Daya had almost turned into a machine, who had a bureau to work in, who went there everyday just to get sank in the work load more. Then slowly night arrived in the city... slowly, tiredly... Daya too walked through the tired silent steps and came to their usual place. He knew that it would not be right to enter this house, but this house contained something of his own. His dearest relative, the person whom he loved the most, was there in this house. Yes, he was too far away from him now. But someday everything would be alright. He would return. Yes, he would!
He did know how time passed being sank in these thoughts and standing like a statue at the opposite of Abhijeet's residence. Then suddenly, he felt too tired. He took a final gaze of that house and then slowly returned to his house where nobody except those lifeless furnitures waited for him. He himself was lifeless too... exactly like those furnitures. Sometimes he had his dinner and sometimes not... but yes, he needed heavy doses of sleeping pills every night to bring the angel of sleep in his eyes. And every night when he closed his eyes only one prayer appeared in his mind...
These eyes should never open again!
This night should never end again!
Perhaps then Abhijeet too would come to meet him again. Not in this world, but at least he would have place for himself in his brother's heart. And that was enough for him. But his wishes got never fulfilled. Though he was able to separate himself from his pain temporarily with the help of those medicines but as soon as the effect of medicines ended, the pain again made him scattered. His life continued with days woven by melancholy and loneliness.
Gayatri was watching TV, sitting in her room. Actually she was surfing channels only but she stopped at a news channel where an award ceremony was going on. "Award for Best Youth Icon". Gayatri was just shocked the receiver of the award... Daya! A smile automatically appeared over her lips. Her son figure was really an icon of the youths. Many young boys dreamt to be like him, a strong brave cop. She was really feeling proud of him!
She saw that the host requested Daya to say something about him. He grabbed the microphone and said something, something different. He said in calm tone...
Daya: sorry magar main kisi ka inspiration nahin ban sakta... main waisa insan nahin hoon... haan, agar success ke hisab se tola jaye to main ek bohot hi successful cop hoon... mere pass sab kuch hain... naam, izzat, paisa... lekin agar zindagi ke hisab se tolna hain to mujh jaisa gareeb koi nahin hain... main clues se guneehgaaron ko to pehchaan sakta hoon... lekin apni zindagi mein sahi waqt par sahi insan ko pehchaan nahin paya... unke saath itna galat kiya, unhe itni takleef diya ki woh majboor ho gaye mujhse munh pher lene ke liye... use taken for granted maan liya tha... isliye hi ek din sab kuch khatam ho gaya... mere haath se sab chut gaya... isliye hi main sabko kehna chahta hoon ki don't be like me... koi faida nahin hain... be yourself... khud ki tarah bano... career ke saath saath apne parivar ko bhi waqt do... waise milta hain asli kaamiyabi!...
Saying this he slowly got from the stage. But everyone present in the show, from the audience to the anchor, got silent with this reply. None of them could not understand how to react in this situation. And on the other hand, Gayatri's smile too disappeared in this side of the TV. Daya's words diretly hit her inside. She could realize at that very moment that this man was not fine. His dark face and still boxed eyes was giving witness of this and that was the exact moment when she noticed that Abhijeet was standing near the threshold of the room. Had he heard everything?
She turned to have a talk with him but before that Abhijeet left the room silently. But today Gayatri could not remain silent anymore. She walked to Abhijeet's room to have a talk with him about Daya, for the first time.
The dark shadow of evening had come down to the city of Mumbai till then. Abhijeet was standing near the window, silently, when Gayatri walked in to his room. He had not noticed her coming in at first, so got startled as she asked in straight tone...
Gayatri: tumne dekha Daya ki interview TV par?
Abhijeet remained silent. Sometimes in life, silence spoke more than words and it was better to remain silent sometimes instead of answering. After some moments of that deep uncannt silence Gayatri herself said...
Gayatri: insan badalta hain Abhijeet... halat kabhi kabhi insan ko uski galtiyon ki ehsaas karwa deta hain... Daya itne dino se humare ghar ke bahar khada rehta hain... sirf tumse baat karne ke liye... aur aaj usne itne sare logo ke saamne apni galti maan liya... kya iske baad bhi tumhe nahin lagta ki use ehsaas hain apni galtiyon ka? Woh badal chuka hain?
Abhijeet remained silent for some moments listening this. Then he said in a calm tone...
Abhijeet: lekin isse mera to koi lena dena nahin hona chahiye maaji... mujhe bhi apni galtiyon ki ehsaas hain... itne saalon se main jo yeh apne se pura alag, ek bewakoof andha insan se pyar karta aaya hoon na, uska ehsaas hain mujhe... main ab us galti ko nahin dohra sakta... yeh mumkin nahin hain... aur Daya kaisa hain isse mujhe koi farq nahin padta... maine thodi na use kaha hain yahan khade rehne ke liye... isliye please... mujhse is bare mein koi baat na kare aap, to hi behtar hoga...
Saying this, he immediately opened his laptop. Perhaps he did this to avoid Gayatri's questions which still hit him directly in his heart. Gayatri herself too understood this act, so she left the room . But her words kept ringing in Abhijeet's ears. Had Daya really realized his mistakes? But the thought immediately disappeared from his mind as soon as it appeared. What then if he had also? How would he repair those glass pieces which he broke by his own hands? It's impossible!
Within these melancholic incidents, almost another month passed in the city of Mumbai. It was almost 9:30 PM. Abhijeet was there in his room, sending his CVs to different companies in search of a job. He was sending his CVs only to those companies which were located in other cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad etc. Nowadays he did not like this city of Mumbai at all. He just wanted to go away from this city. Some days ago, from his late mother's diary, he came to know that in his childhood, they used to stay in Darjeeling. His father was a cop in the local police station. They had stayed there until he died suddenly in a heart attack. His mother had left the hill city just to avoid his father's memories.
In this initial days after memory loss, he just wanted to escape from this place. This feeling had continued until that fair man had come in his life, who had taught him to love this crowdy, busy city. Sitting in front of the laptop, he was relishing those old memories until he heard the high pitched voice of Gayatri coming from the hall. She was calling him.
He rushed to the hall to know the reason, but only found her sitting in front of the TV, watching a news channel. He was about to say something when his haze fell on the content showing in the TV. He was just hell shocked to see it. A shocked whisper came out from his throat as...
Abhijeet: Daya!
