Long time no see! I have been busy writing on "The Time Traveler's Pharaoh" along with Sleeping Moon, so I haven't had much time for my own stories, but here comes a Halloween story from me. I hope you will read and enjoy it.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inu Yasha.
October 31th.
Prologue
20:00 hour.
A cold and dense fog had descended like thick wool around the dilapidated buildings this evening, preventing the streetlamps from penetrate too deep into its secrets. A young woman in heels and business suit was on her way home, walking down one of the less welcoming streets in Tokyo. Yui was as ordinary looking as can be, she wouldn't stand out in any crowd. This night however, was the exception. The people passing her had the appearance of ghouls, youkai, ghosts, skeletons and other grizzly figures you didn't believe in once you became adult. They occasionally emerged from the fog and disappeared again without a trace down another alley or street. Yui did not pay them any mind. She stopped before a traffic light, but when no vehicles passed, she hurried over to the other side and continued her journey.
"If I only didn't miss the bus," she sighed and stopped for a moment to rest her feet. "These stupid heels are killing me. Stupid boss who demands such ridiculous footwear, they are not practical at all and pure torture to walk in. He should try wearing them for an entire day himself, I wonder what he would say to them then!" Yui complained, stretched a leg, shook the foot and did the same for the other one before resuming her walk. A few youkai passed on the other side of the street without paying her any notice, so when a disembodied voice suddenly spoke to her, she uttered a thin, high-pitched scream.
"Hello miss!" the voice said and the young worker suddenly saw a tall vampire walking beside her.
"Hello, and where the heck did you come from?" she replied, tired not caring enough to be polite.
"I have been walking behind you for some time. We are obvious heeding down the same direction, but when you stopped to stretch your legs, I caught up with you. Sorry if I scared you by the way, it wasn't my intention."
"That's alright. Are you going to a party by the way, seeing you are dressed as a vampire, or are you trick or treating like the kids?" she asked, not wanting to give the stranger any opportunity to ask her personal questions.
"I am a bit too old for knocking on doors and ask for treats am I afraid. As a matter of fact, I'm on my way to a party, where else would a vampire like me go on such a night?" he said, flashing her a toothy smile with a shiny pair of fangs. "What about you? Are you on the way to the convention for damned business workers, or are you just heading home from work?"
"Very funny, I have been working late. Not all of us dress up like five-year-old children and run door to door on Halloween. Haven't you…. *acchhg*!"
It happened so fast! The cold hand that wrapped around her neck, choked her words and prevented the life-sustaining air from reaching her lungs. Her hands went instinctively up to her neck in an effort to remove the strangling grip, desperate to get away. But the more she fought, the tighter the grip. "Noo h.. please…" she gurgled, but Yui's please went unheard. She was lifted up in the air like a rag doll. Black spots began to cloud her vision and in a futile attempt to free herself, she lunged out with a kick. She managed to hit something, because a sharp hiss followed before she was sent flying through the air and into a dark alley. Yui landed hard on the concrete and lost her breath on impact. Her mind worked feverish to tell her to get away, but upon turning her head she froze in horror. She hadn't looked properly at him before, but now she saw a hideous figure. His face was unhealthy pale, the thin lips were stretched into a cruel snarl, revealing deathly sharp fangs.
Yui could hardly process what she was seeing. Her heart clenched behind her ribs and she was overcome by fear. But without air left in her lungs, she could do nothing more than twist her mouth into a silent scream when the stranger sprang at her. His eyes were murderous and red. That was the last she saw!
