Chapter Two
As dawn brightened the skies above the isles, a boat silently drifted in from the Scottish mainland, its only passenger was also the captain and the crew. He had a rugged look to him and a sinister look in his eyes. "I think I'll have some fun here, I just know it," he said to himself while grinning, then he jumped off his boat and headed for Lerwick. The little Scottish town was waking with the sunlight streaming in through their windows.
Cassie's POV
My alarm clock woke me from my dreams, I had set it for quite an early time, even earlier than my dad's alarm, which probably wouldn't go off for another hour. So with a sigh I reluctantly got out of my lovely warm bed and headed for the shower.
15 minutes later…
Once I'd finished my shower and dressed in some warm clothes, I looked out of my window and saw for once it wasn't raining, but it did look like it would later, as there were some evil looking clouds overhead. I headed downstairs towards the kitchen for some breakfast and a hot drink, because I knew it would be cold outside, as this was Shetland with of course good old Scottish weather.
Jimmy's POV
I was woken up by noises from the kitchen, so I immediately thought we're being robbed, then I looked over and saw the time, which is when I remembered that Cassie had a thing to do with otters, so I got up and headed downstairs. Once I got downstairs, I noticed Cassie was moving around the kitchen making breakfast, dressed in some of her warmest clothes."'Good morning' I said as I sat down at the bench still yawning a bit. 'Morning Dad' she replied, 'You're up early this morning' I said as she put a cup of tea down in front me, which I was very grateful for. 'I'm leaving soon, in about half an hour.' Cassie replied. She carried on making toast. I asked 'Do you need me to give you a lift or anything?' She turned round with a slice in her hand and said 'No thanks, Alice's mum is coming to pick me up, and then taking me and Alice to the meeting point at Fort Charlotte.'
'So what exactly are you doing with otters then?' I asked as I drank some more of the tea. 'Well we're going on a bus from Fort Charlotte with a guide and a teacher, travelling 2 and a half hours including a ferry to Baltasound.' Cassie replied as she starting cleaning up her toast making. 'Why so early?' I asked, Cassie yawned before replying 'We have to be there by low tide which according the the guide is at about 10.25-10.30am. Apparently it's the best time to see them, the fours hours immediately after low tide.'
I thought to myself, that makes sense but I didn't know a lot about otters. 'So what subjects is this for anyway?' I asked after draining the cup. 'Something to do with three seperate subjects, Geography, Biology and Agriculture.' She answered. Agriculture? I didn't remember doing anything like that at school, that makes me feel old. 'Sounds good and intriguing.' I said still thinking about agriculture.
We sat there and listened to the waves and the seagulls, it was peaceful here.
Cassie's POV
I watched dad while he looked out the window he looked happy which was good to see, he'd been so down recently and I couldn't figure out why, maybe it was something to do with work. I looked at my watch and saw that Alice and her mum would be here in a few minutes, so I excused myself from the bench, dad was still looking out the window clearly deep in thought, and went upstairs to do my teeth. When I came back down dad wasn't looking out of the window anymore he was waiting for me, he gave me a big hug and a kiss on the head and said to have fun, and to not let the weather ruin my day.
