That day was one of many.
Waking up early, his shift was supposed to start at ten, but he would have to go to the hospital at seven for yet another overtime that would have forced him to start earlier and finish later.
He had set the alarm, but Will opened his eyes earlier, as he often did.
He felt tired, sad. He had rested, but he was not satisfied.
His desire was to stay where he was, in bed without going anywhere. But unfortunately this was not possible.
So he struggled, got up and started getting ready.
It was 6:40 am when he left the house. On the one hand he was also a bit happy, leaving early he would avoid meeting Mr. Liverman, the landlord who would ask him for the money.
That was a good person, he never had any problems with him, but as it is normal that he was annoyed because Will was late for payment.
But Halstead's hopes of not meeting him were in vain.
As soon as he passed in front of his apartment that gentleman opened the door and the two began the usual discussion.
- You're almost two months late. Either you pay or you'll have to find another place.
This heralded the start of the day.
The hope was that it could improve in the meantime, but usually a bad day could only get worse.
With a great sadness in his heart he left the house and got into the car and left for the hospital.
When he got to the ER he changed and after quickly saying goodmorning to Meggie he was immediately overwhelmed with work.
What could be better than working to not think?
But that day he unfortunately he was cursed.
Will had to face very complex cases, diagnoses of tumors, sometimes terminal and witness the death of two people, a woman and a child always from cancer.
His heart, filled with sadness, had broken further, and it was only mid-morning yet.
It seemed the world was angry with him.
He was about to explode. He needed a moment's break.
He went up to Meggie and said in a trembling voice:
- Megs, I need a break. -
The nurse was overworked so he quickly responded by simply saying "Ok".
Moments later when she turned away, having heard the doctor's trembling tone, Will had already walked away.
Lockwood returned to work unable to leave her post having been called to order for a new arrival and promised to stop him as soon as she returned.
