That night Will had been able to rest much better, he felt calmer.
He woke up early, got ready, nibbled a little something for breakfast not having much appetite, and headed to Dr. Green's house to leave the car with him before going to work.
His heart was filled with sadness, he was separating from something that was a necessity for him.
Dr. Green fortunately lived fairly close to the hospital and Halstead's shift was still about an hour away.
Will then decided to take advantage of it and take a walk.
The air was cold, pungent and the day was illuminated by a few rays of sunlight trying to peek through the dark clouds that threatened rain.
Obviously this was a very fortunate time for Dr. Halstead, so it was only a quarter of an hour before the weather got worse.
A strong wind had come and made his bones freeze. Although he wore a heavy coat with a scarf, hat and gloves, he felt cold.
The threatening clouds covered the sun and it began to rain harder and harder.
The doctor kept walking trying to take cover as he could under some balcony or parapet.
In the midst of so much bad luck, however, something positive happened.
It was shortly before his arrival at the hospital, just over a quarter of an hour away, the doctor was soaked, wet from head to toe, when in the distance someone in a car had noticed him and stopped.
It was Jay.
The detective was on his way to the precinct when his boss Sergeant Voight called him to make a detour to the Med. There he would meet with Hailey because they had to question a boy.
In the distance he had noticed a silhouette walking in the rain trying to protect itself as much as he could.
He repeatedly blew the horn, attracting his brother's attention and getting him into the car.
- Will, you're all wet. But what did you think of? Did you want to take a walk in the rain? - Jay joked.
The doctor avoided looking him in the eye and replied with an apology.
- No, my car broke down recently. I called the wrecker who left it at the mechanic and seeing that the sun was peeping through the clouds I thought I could take a stroll to get to the hospital. I thought I could make it before it started raining.
The detective, however, believed his brother and the two continued the journey in silence.
Once they got to the hospital everyone went their way. Jay met with his colleague, while the doctor went to change to take off those wet clothes and put on the uniform.
Luckily neither Meggie nor Ethan had seen him when he got there wet as a chick.
Will settled down and got to work.
There were a couple of minutes before his shift so he accepted when his brother suggested that he have a coffee at the hospital bar with him. Jay's partner also went with them.
- You need to know Hailey, being able to spend time with my brother is hard work now,- Jay joked.
Unfortunately, there was always a grain of truth under the jokes.
The doctor, however, avoided answering. He did not feel like joking or causing any discussion to arise.
He was hoping for a quiet day.
His brother, on the other hand, had noticed the oddities in Will's behavior for some time and even more so in that moment that he hadn't been in the game.
In the end, however, everything was put aside because duty was calling there.
Jay left with Hailey, however, vowing to investigate the matter.
