Will stood there, a severe pain in his chest assaulting him. He was forced to sit on the couch bent forward for a while with his hand holding his shirt with his fist closed right in front of his chest.
Meanwhile, big tears fell from his eyes.
A great sadness had again invaded his heart.
Natalie had finally spoken. She had said what she thought of him.
Will felt like he was getting a stab.
He was sweating a lot. It was not possible that the woman who until recently, she said she loved him more than herself had treated him like this. Is it possible that a feeling passes from one day to another?
Once the pain subsided somewhat the doctor got up and headed for the bathroom.
Meggie was walking to meet him, she had seen Dr. Manning go by, but not he and she wanted to make sure he was okay.
Will didn't look at her, he hadn't noticed her presence.
He was too sick, he was focused on getting to the bathroom as fast as possible, which is already complex enough to do.
Not having had the opportunity to express himself he had somatized everything that had happened.
He was in the ball, he felt confused, his head was spinning and the stomach ache had started to make itself felt again. He had an urgent need to throw up. And that was what he did as he opened the bathroom door by bending over the toilet.
He began to have gagging that led him to empty his stomach, even though he had only consumed one coffee all day.
Will couldn't stop throwing up even though he had nothing left inside him. The retching kept coming out dull. Gradually each of them, each blow, also caused a heartbeat in the doctor's head that had begun to throb and hurt.
Once he calmed down he tried to get up from the ground slowly and shortly after, however, he collapsed on the bathroom floor unable to stand up being weak. Everything had turned black before his eyes, he had fainted.
Dr. Halstead did not usually react in that way to a clash of opinions, but not being able to express himself and being harshly criticized by the person who despite everything he still loved had hurt him. Adding to the difficulties of the period, almost no nutrition and the dehydration of the previous days, it was easy to understand his physical breakdown.
He was out for quite some time.
Ethan had just finished an emergency surgery on a patient in the ER. His hands were stained with blood. He decided to go to the bathroom to wash and freshen his face.
As he entered, he headed for the sink. He didn't notice anything at first. He was distracted, he had before his eyes the images of that young boy who had unfortunately lost his life while his hands were inside him.
Choi turned on the sink water and let it run, watched it flow for a while and then dipped his hands under it.
The blood slowly slipped away giving a pink color to the water. It was as if what the doctor had experienced was also going away without a trace, at least on a visible level.
Slowly returning to reality Ethan began to perceive a pungent smell in the air, as if someone had just vomited.
He turned and was shocked at what he saw.
Will was lying there unconscious.
He immediately looked out of the bathroom door and shouted:
- I need help here! -
Meggie arrived in the bathroom and the scene she saw made a great impression on her.
Dr. Choi was on his knees beside his dear brotherly friend who lay prone on the floor.
- He's lost consciousness,- the doctor said
Without wasting time the nurse brought a stretcher and after being placed on it Halstead was carried to one of the rooms.
It was when he was transferred to the table while Maggie was taking his blood pressure that the doctor began to recover.
- He's recovering - she told Ethan
- Will, how are you feeling? - Choi asked his colleague
Dr. Halstead didn't really want to talk.
He had opened his eyes for a few seconds and then immediately closed them again.
His head throbbed hard and it was driving him crazy, then everything around him was in constant motion. He was dizzy and looking around him made him nauseous.
He lay there for a while trying to breathe deeply to recover.
The pressure was dangerously low.
Will, can you open your eyes for me? - asked the nurse.
The doctor on the couch initially did not react. Maggie reinserted the cannula into his arm so that she could infuse it with saline.
- Will open your eyes please,- Choi asked again.
-I ... I can't,- Halstead just whispers
- Okay, can you tell me why you can't? - Ethan asked
Will was silent for a while. A few moments he said:
- I feel like throwing up -
Immediately Nurse Lockwood took the basin and placed it under Will's chin.
The doctor had several retching but nothing comes out. He no longer had anything inside of hin, it seemed to be something anxious.
He stayed a while longer with his eyes closed right after he finished, almost as if to allow his body to heal itself.
- Can you tell me what happened? - Choi asked
- I honestly don't know - explained Will - I don't remember.
He didn't know what made him feel bad, and besides, he didn't really want to talk. He tried to stay focused on his breath to manage the nausea that still persisted.
- What were you doing before you got sick? - Ethan asked again as the nurse injected nausea medication into the drip.
- Maybe this has something to do with the discussion you had with Dr. Manning? - asked the nurse.
