Chapter Twenty Nine: Happy Endings
Three Months Later:
"Keep your eyes closed," Jack whispered, leading Rapunzel by her shoulders up the stairs.
"Jack, what are you doing?" The blonde questioned, stumbling a little as Jack led her over the threshold. Her rain boots squeaked a bit on the floors, and she felt a warm blast of air that made her coat suddenly too hot. "Where are we going?"
"Just one more minute," Her boyfriend whispered, and pulled her hands again. "Okay, open!"
Rapunzel's eyes blinked open.
"Surprise!"
Hiccup, Merida, Flynn, Elsa, Tooth and Babi, Bunny, and more of their friends - North and Sandy, stood in the middle of an empty living room. The floors were a warm yellow birch, and the walls were freshly painted white. Hiccup and Merida were holding a few colorful balloons, while Tooth held a small cake. Flynn had a small bundle of purple and yellow flowers, and North, Bunny and Sandy held more plates of food.
"Guys?" Rapunzel asked. "Where are we?"
"Why don't you go look outside," Jack said, gesturing to the door. Still a little confused, Rapunzel ran back outside, making her way down a set of front steps before turning around and gasping.
She recognized the yellow siding, the blue and purple window shutters, and especially the house itself. Rapunzel could see the empty window boxes that would be full of flowers in the summertime, the little lily stained glass window on the second floor, and all the worn down decorative pieces between the windows. She could already think of how she wanted to repaint those designs.
"Jack?" Rapunzel asked. "I thought this house was for sale? Why are we here?"
"Turn around,"
Rapunzel looked behind her again, stopping when she saw the For Sale sign. Except now, it had a red marker covering it that read 'Sold'.
"Is this our house?!"
"Yep!" Jack cheered, hugging Rapunzel as she ran towards him again. "And everybody's here to help celebrate it!"
Jack led the blonde back into the empty living room, promising to let her explore the house after the party. Their friends had started doling out the food already, and soon, everyone was clustered around the platters on the floor, eating in a circle.
"Jack… how did you even get this house?" Rapunzel asked suddenly, putting down her slice of cake. "I thought we couldn't afford it,"
"Well…." Jack muttered. "I made a lot bot fighting these past few months… and then I had some friends help me cover the rest?"
"It's not for free kiddo," Bunny laughed. "You'll be helping me out for a while,"
"Same with us!" North laughed, his booming russian accent filling the room as Sandy nodded and gave a thumbs up.
"Oh, and you two are on the hook for babysitting for at least a year," Tooth added. "Babi can't wait to stay with her favorite aunt and uncle,"
The council members laughed, and Rapunzel smiled widely. With the new house, they'd be able to have more time with Emma, and even build their own lifes more. She snuck a glance over to Merida and Hiccup, who were sitting with their backs to the big bay window in the living room. Even after only a few months, Hiccup was thriving with his new job at SFIT, and Merida had confided that her parents had invited her home for Christmas. It really seemed that life was changing for the better.
"Hey, Punzie," Jack whispered into the blonde's ear. "Come with me,"
Rapunzel let Jack lead her upstairs, where a small hallway led to four doors. He opened the first one - a small bedroom.
"Emma," He said, opening the next. "Bathroom, and then our room,"
This bedroom was just a little larger than Emma's, but there was still one more door. Jack led her down the hall and turned the knob, revealing a room that stretched the width of the house, with the lily stained glass window shining in the center.
"Workroom?" He asked. Rapunzel smiled and looked around, imagining the shelves and tables full of projects. "I think you might have the space to finally open that art shop you wanted,"
"Jack! This is amazing!" Rapunzel cried, twirling around. "You're amazing!"
"No," Jack said. "You are,"
Rapunzel turned to face him again, gasping as her hands flew up to mouth. Jack was kneeling in front of her on one knee, holding on a small black box.
"Rapunzel Corona, when we first met, I wasn't sure if I wanted to even be friends. I was so worried about my sisters and bot fighting that I pushed everyone away, and then you showed up. You were a ray of sunshine that lit up my life and brought me out of the darkness. Because of you, I have friends, a job and the best girl in the world by my side. I know you haven't had the best life, but I want to make it better - together. So… will you marry me, Sunflower?"
"Oh my god! Yes!" Rapunzel cried, hauling Jack up to his feet and kissing him. "Yes!"
Jack smiled, and reached up to wipe a tear from Rapunzel's eye. He squeezed the blonde tighter, nestling his face into her neck. He scooped her up into her arms, her legs wrapping around his waist.
"Together?" He asked. Rapunzel nodded and wrapped her legs around him tighter.
"Congrats you two," A new voice chimed in. The couple turned to see Hiccup and Merida standing in the doorframe. Merida had her phone out and had recorded the whole proposal. Hiccup slung an arm around Merida's shoulders as two bots - Toothless and Pascal - ran in, exploring the new space.
"You do know that you're my best man, right?" Jack said jokingly to Hiccup, who grinned.
"Wouldn't want it any other way,"
"Ready to go back down to tha' party?" Merida asked.
"Wait!" Jack yelled, grabbing Rapunzel and pulling her back. "One thing first!"
He opened the box and slid the ring onto Rapunzel's finger. It was a thin band of gold, engraved with little vines that led to the small diamond in the center, which bloomed out of a small golden lily decorated with tiny yellow and purple stones.
"Now we're ready," Jack smiled, and followed his friends back downstairs.
The End
Authors Note: It's finished! This story is really what I consider to be my first full length RotBTD story (Flurrying Family was really just jackunzel). Now that it's finished, I'll start posting the next, and hopefully I'll be able to continue my pattern of having one story to post, one to two written as a backup, one currently writing and several more to outline. I know that might sound like a lot, but the Big Four are really easy to create different stories with.
Also on the agenda: perhaps some other fandoms? I have a half outlined/bullet pointed Miraculous Ladybug Future Fic, and another google doc full of plot points and other ideas. Theres a short Harry Potter thing I want to work on again, and Soulmate Stories are still an ongoing challenge.
Either way, this is Wiz signing off for Cove Golems, but don't forget about the bonus chapter (which is also posted!)
