Disclaimer: I do not own The Penguins of Madagascar or any of its characters, but I do own Alex the penguin and a lot more characters who appear in this story.
In her dream, Alex traveled over open country, no idea where she was supposed to be going, yet feeling like she had to keep going. After a couple of moments, the whole landscape shifted and she found herself struggling through thick woodland. She was very confused, but before she could make sense of anything, she was waking up.
Almost convinced that she was lost somewhere, she stared around wide-eyed, only relaxing when she saw that she was still at the zoo, safe in the penguin habitat, with the others nearby. Letting out a sigh of relief, she sat down, mind still hazy from sleep. For some reason, she felt something tugging her to her feet and away from her home, away from everything she's ever known.
She didn't understand, but she felt like she had to leave and go on a long journey. But she had no idea where she had to go.
Shaking her head, she got to her feet and stumbled forward, right into Jason. He looked down at her worriedly. "Are you okay?" he asked, eyes full of concern.
She shook herself and nodded. "I'm fine," she told him, but he didn't look like he believed her.
He opened his mouth, but before he could say anything else, Alex gently pushed past him and spotted her mother talking to Grace. She decided to join them, and as she approached, they turned to her, also looking worried about her.
"Are you okay?" Grace asked her, and Alex sighed inwardly, but she forced herself not to snap at her friend as she replied with the same answer she just gave Jason.
Neither of them looked like she believed her, either, but at last Grace turned away. Daisy, however, continued to stare at her, and Alex felt like her mother could read her mind. She stiffened when she asked Grace if she could talk to Alex alone.
Grace nodded and walked away. As soon as it was just them, Daisy turned to her daughter and murmured," I know something is wrong." She paused, before adding softly," You can tell me whatever is on your mind."
Alex took a deep breath, forcing her pounding heart to relax. Then she blurted out: "I need to go find Skipper!"
