Contrary to what you may think after that dance lesson fiasco, Katsuki does not enjoy school dances. Especially with his lunatic classmates. Katsuki thought it was safe to assume the fruit punch was spiked considering Denki and the rest of the idiot squad was here.
Katsuki looked around. Was there anyone here that wasn't drunk out of their mind? Mina and Eijiro were currently making-out with each other heatedly. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight didn't think even he would be able to separate them, not that he would try. Katsuki then spotted Denki flirting with Hanta like he didn't remember they were already freaking dating.
Those four had tried to invite Katsuki into their relationship, but Katsuki would rather just stay friends so he had declined. They had been slightly disappointed, but had respected his wishes. Besides, Katsuki was sure their relationship would be happier without Katsuki being his grumpy self all the time.
Katsuki rolled his eyes. Denki, Mina, Hanta, and Eijiro might be idiots, but they were Katsuki's idiots. Katsuki would never say this out loud, but Katsuki loved those four and wouldn't hesitate to save their asses in any fight. Katsuki was glad he had met them.
Aoyama appeared to have dragged Tokoyami, Yaomomo, and Shouji onto the stage to perform an elaborate dance number which they were failing spectacularly at. Kouda was hunched over a rubbish bin, throwing up. Satou had pulled out a cake from literally nowhere and it appeared to be freshly baked. Ojiro and Jirou seemed to be talking to a wall. Tsu was laughing hysterically with Hagakure while chugging the 'juice' like it was the last drop of water in Japan. Uraraka and Iida were missing even though Katsuki swore he saw the new couple just minutes previous. Katsuki thought things wouldn't get too out of hand considering Iida the stuck up robot was there… right?
Although, the most concerning out of these was the fact Shinsou and Deku were dancing and laughing. Blushes on their cheeks signifying they were at least a little drunk. Katsuki frowned, he didn't have an excuse to separate the pair this time.
Damn, all of these bitches were gonna have one nasty hangover coming their way. Aizawa was going to decimate them in class tomorrow.
Well, one of his crushes was occupied, but where was the other? He hadn't seen Shouto yet.
Katsuki barely registered the sound of the music changing tempos. Now at a slow dance type of music. Like the stuff playing when Mina made Shouto dip him. Katsuki blushed just a little.
Finally, Katsuki saw Shouto in the darkest corner of the room. He was leaning on the wall, looking bored and not drunk. Thankfully, Shouto wasn't dumb enough to drink the spiked juice.
Katsuki went over, he mentally came up with an excuse to dance with the alpha. He definitely wasn't just gonna blurt out he wanted to dance. Stupid. It would murder his shiny reputation.
When Shouto saw him, he lit up. A small smile etched onto his beautiful features, making him more stunning than usual. Katsuki's already present blush deepened.
Speaking of stunning, Shouto's outfit was magnificent. It looked really expensive, but it sure made it worth it to Katsuki's eyes. The suit was all white and outlined the alpha's slight curves. The tie was purple. Katsuki wanted to do that thing in movies where they pull the tie making the other crash into him in a kiss.
"Hey, Icyho-" Katsuki started.
"Are you drunk, Katsuki? Your blush is really deep. I thought you were smarter than this. Even I could tell it was spiked," Shouto said with a flourish.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, "No, I'm not drunk, idio-" he said, but was once again interrupted.
"Sure you aren't. Let's get you to your room before you do anything stupi-" this time it was Katsuki interrupting Shouto.
With a hand covering the other alpha's mouth, blushing so hard the red could rival blood, and avoiding eye contact to the point it was so obvious even Deku wouldn't be able to see past it, Katsuki said, "Will you dance with me?"
When Katsuki first made contact with Shouto, his eyes held surprise. After Katsuki had asked him those five fateful words, Shouto's eyes softened with understanding and slight amusement. He slowly and gently removed the hand that was gently resting on his mouth, "Oh, I get it- you're super drunk. Otherwise you would never dare. I think you are projecting your feelings for Izuku on me. The alcohol is messing with your brain," Shouto said the last bit with sadness edging into his smooth voice.
Even though none of it was true, Katsuki couldn't help but feel rejected and invalidated.
"No-" Katsuki tried.
Shouto smiled, but it was fake. It didn't reach his eyes. His eyes were still sad. It hurt.
"But I will accept your offer to dance. If only to amuse you." Shouto said. He took Katsuki's hand and hesitantly kissed it.
They walked onto the dance floor while the sweet melody of the slow music entered their ears. Some of the best scents wafted around Katsuki's nose. Shouto and Satou's cake.
They danced together for what felt like hours, enjoying each other's presence. They were slowly leaning into each other. The song was reaching its climax and it was beautiful.
Katsuki was so close. So close he could see that one of Shouto's eyes was in fact not blue. It was more of a marbly turquoise. There was a sparkle in the mischievous eyes that did not show from afar. If you weren't close, the eyes looked stoic and emotionless. Katsuki's eyes flickered to the thin lips. They were just inches apart from kissing. The air surrounding them was full of romance. Katsuki's eyes flickered closed, preparing for the kiss. This would be the perfect ending to their story.
Their lips just brushed then suddenly Shouto pulled away, stumbling a bit. He took two large steps away, successfully putting some distance between them. Katsuki was confused? Did Shouto not want this?
Shouto's mouth opened and closed and Katsuki couldn't help but admit it was sorta cute, but this wasn't the time. Shouto seemed to settle on what to say and he schooled his expression, "Katsuki, I refuse to take advantage of someone not in their right mind. I'm sorry."
"Wait-" nobody had interrupted Katsuki this time. He had cut himself off because what was he supposed to say? Why would Shouto care? Why should Shouto wait? Katsuki's mind screamed at him to stop the retreating heterochromatic boy. But he couldn't. He wouldn't. Katsuki found himself frozen. One arm was reaching towards Shouto as he left the room, not looking back once. He was grasping at something that could never happen.
That school dance two souls were left heartbroken and confused, hoping, wishing, and dreaming for something they thought impossible.
