In a war-filled city, there are three organizations that are against each other. The Armed Detective Agency, who are trying to save the city. The Port Mafia, who are trying to destroy the city. And the Guild, who are watching from afar. These three organizations don't agree with each other, but the Armed Detective Agency is determined to bring justice and return the city to its' non-warzone state from the past. But one fateful day, the Armed Detective Agency is about to gain a helpful ally!
Atsushi Nakajima was fast asleep in the passenger seat of the car he was riding in. Since the gray-haired male was now eighteen, the orphanage had decided that he was an adult now and that he could take care of himself. It was raining extremely hard outside of the car. The headmaster was carefully driving through a huge traffic jam that lead to the city. Atsushi groaned in his sleep as he dreamed.
In the dream, Atsushi was curled up in a bubble that was floating in a dark, rainy sky. A lightning bolt hit the bubble, causing it to pop, and Atsushi jumped out of his fetal position.
"Atsushi…"
He then saw a giant tornado approaching him. There was no way he could escape in time!
"Atsushi."
The young male was eventually swallowed up by the storm of strong winds, but for some reason, he didn't scream. He just cried silently as he spun through the hurricane. Eventually, his frozen body fell on the wet ground.
"Atsushi!"
Suddenly, the gold and purple-eyed male woke up with a quick, sharp scream of surprise.
"Finally, you're awake Atsushi!" exclaimed the headmaster. "You looked like you were having a nightmare!"
The headmaster that was talking to Atsushi was a woman known as Mother Lea. Unlike the other headmasters that treated the orphanage kids like crap, Lea was extremely kindhearted to all the children, including Atsushi. When the orphanage decided to kick out Atsushi, Lea decided to be the one to drop him off at his new home. Unfortunately, the only place the orphanage could drop him off that was the closest was in this war-filled city, but Lea had hope that the city would eventually "fix itself". Atsushi wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked to the side.
"How scary… There was a terrible storm!" said Atsushi nervously.
"It's been like this since you fell asleep, but don't worry! We're almost to where we need to be!" said Lea.
Atsushi used one of his thin hands to turn on the radio.
"It is currently twelve in the afternoon. The storm is expected to disappear, along with all the dark and threatening clouds. Expect a bright blue sky and sunshine around the corner!" said the announcer on the radio.
Lea smiled in relief. "Did you hear that Atsushi? Sunshine is going to be around the corner!"
Atsushi's light-colored face lit up. "At least that's some good news!"
Eventually, the car had gotten out of the traffic jam and into the city. The city was very torn down from all the fighting between the organizations, but Atsushi figured this was his new life.
Sooner or later, the car arrived at an apartment building where Atsushi was now going to live. Lea helped the young man unpack his stuff and when all the unpacking was done, the two embraced each other and said "goodbye". As Lea got in her car, Atsushi walked by a river that was near his new home. He then bent his thin legs, allowing him to squat over the ground and look straight into the river. Atsushi's stomach grumbled.
"I'm starving. I didn't even ask Mother Lea to get me McDonalds!" sighed the young male sadly. "Well… I know that I'm sick of McDonalds but maybe I should've said something… I mean we passed three McDonalds on the way here! I kind of want tea on rice!"
Suddenly, his cat-like eyes widened as he saw a man floating down the river.
"Uh… Why is that man floating down the river?" asked Atsushi in a confused but worried voice.
The man continued to go down the river. The top half of his body, including his head, was underwater.
"I think he needs help." said the silver-haired male nervously.
A couple of black birds were now pecking the man in the river.
"I'll pass… Fine!"
Atsushi then jumped into the river and rescued the drowning man. Once they were both out of the water, the brown-haired male that was drowning woke up and sat up. The younger male gasped.
"You were floating down the river… Are you alright?" asked Atsushi in a polite but nervous tone.
"I made it?" asked the older male. He then scowled. "Damn!"
"Damn?!" gasped Atsushi, who was confused. The man that was in the river didn't want to be saved?! How?! Why?! Was he suicidal or something?!
"Did he just say "damn"?" thought Atsushi.
The brown-haired male got up and turned around to face Atsushi.
"You see, I was trying to commit suicide. My goal is to do a clean suicide with no trouble, but you went and ruined all that." said the male who was visibly annoyed.
"I'm sorry…" said Atsushi sadly.
"By the way, I have never seen you around here… Did you just move here?" asked the brown-eyed male.
"Yeah…" said Atsushi, moments before his stomach interrupted the conversation.
"Are you hungry?" asked the man. The brown-haired male's stomach then growled loudly. "Well would you look at that, I'm also hungry!"
Suddenly, a blonde-haired male with glasses showed up on the other side of the river. This man was Doppo Kunikida.
"Hey Dazai! Where have you been all day?! Don't tell me you were trying to commit suicide again!" shouted Kunikida to the man known as Dazai.
"Of course, I was trying to commit suicide!" shouted Dazai. "But first, I'm hungry, and this boy is hungry, so let's go find the nearest restaurant!"
Dazai then turned to the younger male. "By the way, my name is Osamu Dazai. It's nice to meet you! What's your name?"
"Atsushi Nakajima…" responded Atsushi.
Dazai then turned to Kunikida again. "By the way Kunikida, you're paying, not me!"
"HUH?!" asked Kunikida angrily.
The three men ended up going to a Japanese restaurant. Dazai and Kunikida got their food, while Atsushi got ten plus bowls of tea on rice. Eventually, the three finished their food and Atsushi was a happy camper.
"Ah… I'm so stuffed!" Exclaimed Atsushi in a happy but rather whiny voice. He then rubbed his belly, which was visibly bloated from all the food he ate. "I don't wanna see another bowl of this for at least ten years!"
A red angry mark appeared on Kunikida's head. "Why you-!" complained Kunikida.
Dazai was visibly sleepy from eating all his salad. He then looked up and smiled with sparkling brown eyes.
"Hey! Kunikida! Look at that!" exclaimed Dazai.
"What is it now, Dazai?" said Kunikida in a grumpy tone.
Atsushi looked up at what Dazai was looking at. It was just a wooden pole that was hanging from the ceiling.
"See that pole up there? There's something called "The Hanging Health Method" that's good for you, you should write that down in your notebook!" said Dazai happily.
"Oh? Okay…" said Kunikida quietly. He then began to write in his notebook… "The Hanging Health Method…"
"I'm just joking!" said Dazai.
The blonde-haired male then broke his pen and angrily grabbed Dazai by the neck. Kunikida began yelling and screaming at the brown-haired male as he was sick of his suicidal behavior. Atsushi watched nervously. Did these two always act like together?
Suddenly, thin, black tentacles busted through the ceiling, grabbing the three male's attention. The tendrils bust through the table the three were eating at and the three swiftly moved away from the destroyed table.
"These tendrils-!" shouted Kunikida. "Akutagawa!"
Suddenly, a male with light-colored skin, black and white hair, and black clothes jumped through the ceiling and landed. He put his hand to his mouth and coughed as the other customers and restaurant workers ran out of the building. This man, Akutagawa, opened his gray eyes and looked at the three.
"Hello Kunikida and Dazai." said Akutagawa menacingly.
Atsushi was confused. This man knows Dazai and Kunikida?!
"What are you doing here?" asked Dazai.
"I see you two are still incompetent as ever." said Akutagawa.
"Kunikida… Do you know this man?" asked Atsushi nervously.
"That's Ryunosuke Akutagawa, he's a member of the Port Mafia!" explained Kunikida. "The Port Mafia is one of our two enemy organizations. They want to destroy the city and keep it as a warzone, while we, the Armed Detective Agency wants the city to be free of war!"
"This city used to be a peaceful place, but now it isn't. It's all the Port Mafia's fault." said Dazai.
Akutagawa turned his ability, Rashomon, into a small demon-like creature and aimed it at Atsushi. Dazai grabbed Atsushi's hand and the three ran out the door at sonic speed.
"LET'S GET OUTTA HERE!" screamed Dazai.
Akutagawa's gray eyes widened as he looked out the door.
"Why are we running away?!" asked Atsushi as the three ran comedically across the city.
"Sometimes escape is the best tactic." said Dazai.
"Besides, we're not ready to fight him at our current level!" said Kunikida in a disappointed voice.
"WHAT?!" screamed Atsushi in disbelief. "But you two are part of the Armed Detective Agency, right?!"
"We are part of the agency, but we're not strong enough to fight Akutagawa by ourselves." said Dazai. "Plus, we've been trying to recruit new members for the agency, and we haven't had any luck. It's only me and Kunikida right now".
"You guys are useless!" shrieked Atsushi.
"But don't worry! We're almost to the agency!" said Dazai.
The three eventually ended up going into the agency's building. The three were exhausted from running so far. Atsushi felt like he had run a marathon! Kunikida looked out the window.
"It'll be a couple minutes before Akutagawa gets here! I suggest we prepare ourselves!" said Kunikida.
Dazai grabbed Atsushi's hand and took him out of the room where Kunikida was. The two eventually went to the highest floor in the Armed Detective Agency's building. Once they were in, Atsushi examined his surroundings. The room was rather empty with barely anything in it, except for a cardboard box. Dazai picked up the cardboard box and handed it to Atsushi.
"Uh… Dazai?" asked the gray-haired male nervously. "Why are you giving me this?"
"Look inside. Something is waiting for you in there!" said Dazai.
Atsushi carefully opened the cardboard box and looked inside. His eyes widened at what he saw. It was a necklace with a white orb hanging off it.
"A necklace? I don't think it's a good time for jewelry, Dazai!" said Atsushi who was visibly unimpressed.
"It's not just any necklace, Atsushi!" said Dazai. "It's actually-!"
Suddenly, Kunikida ran into the room with a gun pointed out the door.
"Get back!" shouted the blonde as he pointed the gun at Akutagawa. Akutagawa walked into the room nonchalantly, almost as if there was no problem. Atsushi and Dazai backed away slowly.
"Did you really think that running away would solve anything?" asked Akutagawa. "But then again, the Armed Detective Agency doesn't have many members, does it?"
The black and white-haired male scowled. "Rashomon!"
Akutagawa's ability then knocked the gun Kunikida was holding out of the blonde's hands. Rashomon then wrapped itself around Kunikida and Dazai, trapping them. But for some reason, Atsushi wasn't attacked.
"Whoa, you actually tied me up!" shouted Dazai.
"Stop acting like you're the only one in this situation!" shrieked Kunikida angrily.
Suddenly, the orb part of the necklace began to glow blue and it began to heat up. Atsushi gasped as he felt the burning pain coming from the orb.
"You're weak." said Akutagawa to the tied-up men.
"Weak?!" thought Atsushi as the orb burned against his bare hands.
"I thought you'd do better this time, considering you two appear to have an ally right now." continued Akutagawa as he closed his eyes.
Atsushi groaned as he looked at the glowing orb that was burning in his hands. The orb was becoming more blue than white. "Dazai said "it wasn't just any necklace". Maybe now is the time to use it!" thought Atsushi.
Akutagawa reopened his gray eyes. "But I was wrong. You two are going to die here… And your ally too!"
Rashomon pointed at the three, getting ready to strike. Suddenly, words snapped into Atsushi's head and he yelled.
"Beast Beneath the Moonlight!"
The orb turned completely blue and released a bright light. It was so bright that it caused Akutagawa to cover his eyes and Rashomon let go of Kunikida and Dazai. The two closed their eyes from the brightness.
"It's finally happening!" exclaimed Dazai happily.
Atsushi stared at the orb as it floated out of his hands and into the air, moments before he was swallowed by the brightness.
