Ch 8
The Guardians of the Galaxy were resting in a bar on planet Contraxia when a breaking news report flashed across the bar's TV screen. Breaking News: Xandar destroyed! Have the Kree returned from the dead? The Guardians immediately went back to their ship and took off. They didn't even need to hear the rest of the news report. This could only mean one thing: Hala had finished her goal to bring the Kree back from extinction and now they would be destroying all the planets in the galaxy with the Soul Stone until they were the galaxy's dominant species.
"Just intercepted a Kree transmission." Gamora said. "Looks like the Kree are going after the Skrulls' planet next."
"Tuh! Why should we save them? They're the worst aliens alive." Rocket said.
"Yeah, we know." Star-Lord said. "But still, we're the Guardians of the Galaxy. What kind of heroes let a planet get blown up?"
"Fine. But don't blame me if the Skrulls still try to shoot us." Rocket huffed.
The Milano zoomed towards the Skrulls' homeworld and when they got there, they saw that the Kree's warship, the Necroship, was already there, along with two other Kree warships.
"The planet is within range." A Kree gunner told Hala.
"Fire." Hala ordered.
The Necroship fired an orange beam from a massive underbelly cannon powered by the Soul Stone and it began to suck the souls of all of the Skrulls on the planet. If this kept up, the Skrulls would become extinct like the Kree were before.
"We have to destroy the superweapon." Gamora said.
"Don't worry, I've got a plan." Star-Lord said. "Drax, Rocket, you're with me. We're gonna fight our way to the command bridge and take out Hala. Gamora, you're with Groot. Maybe you can find a way to destroy the weapon from the inside of the ship."
"Sneaking onto a warship with a Soul Stone-powered gun? I'm in!" Rocket said.
"Yes, there will be many enemies for us to take down." Drax agreed.
"Okay, let's go." Star-Lord said.
The team all went into the Kree warship with their Aero rigs and space suits before they went their separate ways. Gamora and Groot used an elevator to take them to the Death Ray Chamber. The Kree Troopers fired their energy rifles but Groot picked up the Kree Troopers with his vine tentacles and smashed them around the walls until they did not move. At all. "Nice." Gamora said. Then they saw it. The Soul Stone was floating inside a container that was hooked up to the Death Ray cannon which pointed out of a large viewport and into outer space. Gamora slashed the control console with her sword and the container opened. She caught the Soul Stone and the Death Ray stopped firing at the Skrulls' planet.
"We need to get back to the others. Let's go." Gamora ran out of the room with Groot behind her. The first part of the mission was done. Now they had to find Star-Lord.
