GRAY P.O.V.
Right when Lucy woke up I sent Natsu a text, and then doctors came in to do the first exam. She pulled out a pen light then proceeded to ask questions.
"Ma'am can you please tell me your name?" Lucy's eyes are being held open by the doctor.
"Mmm m mmy na…. N… nam.. E i.. Iis" I was looking at the doctor's face and I could tell something was wrong. Lucy just tried to follow commands, but she's struggling with everything. The doctor is finishing up the exam by lifting her legs.
" , can I talk to you privately?" I was going to signal for Erza to go with me, but I don't think that's smart. Jellal decided to come with me, but we know it's not good as we walk to the quiet room.
"I need to keep it together no matter what." I whispered to myself while we waited for Natsu's cousin in this small room.
" , I had my students perform a routine exam after someone had major surgery but I fear that Ms. Heartfila's responses have me worried." No, no please, I hold my fist as I feel all hope drain from my body.
"Hhhow.. how so?" She grabs my hand and takes a deep breath.
"Well she responds to sound, pain stimulation, and light which are good signs.." I feel it coming and I can barely breath. "But she can't verbally respond to any questions we ask and there were times where she couldn't comprehend the question. We are looking at possible brain damage for the rest of her life. Now she did go through trauma in her body, and we will continue to test throughout her stay here. I just want you to be prepared for what happens next."
I feel like I'm spinning in the room as it gets smaller and smaller. "Will she be able to speak again and understand what we are all saying? How severe is this damage going to be?" Jellal asked the questions as I tried my best to hold in my emotions.
"The brain is still a mystery to us, but we will have to let her rest and continue to heal. There is a chance for a full recovery, but it will be a hard road for her to have a full conversation and not have to work at it. We still don't know enough information about how the crash affected her body. Dr. Vermillion is still going to monitor her abdomen injuries and I'm going to keep monitoring her brain, but they seem stable right now. She will come and update you as soon as possible, but now I need you as Ms. heatfila's support system to keep a positive attitude through her recovery studies have shown it has improved and sped their recovery up." Jellal put his hand on my shoulder and tried to shake some sense in me.
"Thank you so much doctor, but I would like to go back to Lucy now." She nodded her head and I walked out of this room. She might not be able to hold a conversation again the way she used to. I knew Lucy always wanted to become an author, but how if she wouldn't respond to anyone? Or if her brain is still damaged even more than her ability to speak.
"Jellal, please don't tell Erza anything until you two get home because like the doctor said we need to keep a positive environment around Lucy?" I heard Jellal footsteps completely stop and I knew I was asking the impossible. "
He took a deep breath before answering me. "Of course Gray, whatever you need to get through this and know that we will support you 100 percent." I try to smile before we continue our way.
I felt that I wasn't even walking but floating back to Lucy's room and I think I heard Erza try to say something, but it's all muffled. I just sat there thinking about my next steps.
ERZA P.O.V.
Gray has been sitting in the same chair for two hours after coming back from the doctor and all I can from Jelly was that it wasn't good news and we need to stay positive. I know he'll tell more in detail later, but I don't want to let go of Lucy's hand. She's slowly trying to keep her eyes open for more than five minutes. I can tell she's getting tired, but she won't stop, almost like she's scared to close her eyes again. Everyone is now stopping by to see her since she finally awakened, and it's nice to see so many people come and support her.
"Lucy look, everyone is waiting for you to get better but know we are here for you." I smiled and patted her head one more time before she closed her eyes. It's weird other than the first time she hasn't said a word. Maybe she's tired considering she just had brain surgery.
"Lucy?" I turned to see a sweaty Natsu on the floor, but Dr. Marvell pulled him aside. For that one moment I heard Lucy mumble something and squeezed my hand. I know she has some fight left in her and she's not ready to give up.
LUCY P.O.V.
I need to sleep, but I can let my eyes close because I don't know if I can ever open them again. I'm in so much pain I can't move, my arms hurt…. Everything hurts, but I have to keep my eyes open. I hear Erza talking to me, but I can't move my eyes right now. All I can do is open them. I think I heard someone else calling me, and I want to see everyone just this once. I can't hold my eyes open much longer. I think I just need to rest a little more, mama. I'm sorry everyone.
LUCY'S DREAM
I'm back in the field this time it feels different, I look up to the same starry sky I left in. I look to see mama holding someone's hand. It looks like a small child with red hair, but I don't recognize them.
"Mama! I want to see you again." This time things looked different, but I can't figure it out. I look down to see that I've changed, I feel older than what I am.
"My dear Lucy, I want you to meet your brother-in-law. His name is Ignus and when the young boy smiled he reminded me of him." I reached out my hand to touch him, but when I did flames covered him. Ignus didn't scream or freak out but he was calm, so I reached out my hand and I touched him.
"Mom, I'm not married." She looked at me confused and then I felt it on my left hand, a ring. It's a simple ring with a silver band with a pink diamond. "When did I get married?"
Just like that she walked into the horizon with the little boy as I laid down on the field to watch the stars. I looked over to see Michelle laying down next to me, but I didn't say a word.
"You can stay here as long as you like. I'll be here all the way." I reached over to hold Michelle's hand one more time. I just need to rest for a while and then I can go back to see Erza and Gray.
