Anyhoo, here is the first chapter for you...
Wedding Celebrations - Early November 1960.
Putting his wash bag in his overnight bag sitting on his bed, King Rupert zipped up the zipper and looked around his bedroom to make sure he had everything before picking up the bag, walking over to the door and out into his suite where his driver and bodyguard, Peter, stood waiting for him to finish packing for his and the Queens overnight trip to Italy to see Joseph marry in the town he was born and raised.
Joseph, of course, still worked at the palace, and still took his position looking after his friend and the now Queen of Genovia very seriously. Things were awkward at the beginning, especially after Rupert had discovered that it was he who Clarisse had been with, but he eventually accepted that nothing would ever happen between them again and it had simply been a one off.
Eventually, Joseph fell in love with a lady from where he had grown up on one of his brief visits back home and proposed to her a year later with the both of them setting the big day for today. He of course invited the King and Queen, mainly because of the close bond he had with Clarisse, but because they had both been very kind to him over the last five years and after some persuasion the King agreed to clear his weekend to attend with Clarisse.
"My suit for the wedding is already in the car, isn't it?" Rupert asked while handing his bag to Peter.
"Yes it is, your highness. Along with her highnesses dress," Peter nodded, taking the bag from the King.
"And her overnight bag?" Rupert asked.
"Not yet. I'm picking it up on my way down, your highness," Peter said.
"Alright," Rupert nodded and looked around his suite, "well I have everything, I think." He said and looked up at his driver. "Let's make our way to her highnesses suite to see if she's ready to go." He said, because, even though he had kept to his word, kept to his promise to never hurt her again and had eventually gained back her trust, they never quite made it to sharing a suite together like they had originally planned to do. They had both got into the routine of enjoying their own space, and were quite happy sleeping in their own beds, only sharing each other's a handful of times since.
"Of course, your highness," Peter said and walked over to open the door for him.
Slipping one of her silk scarfs around her neck, Clarisse made her way into her suite from the bedroom and smiled when she looked across the room at Pierre standing at the coffee table, pouring a pretend cup of tea. "Is that for me?" She asked, walking over to him as he and the nanny, Annette, looked up at her.
"Yes," Pierre smiled as a knock came to the door.
"Come in," Clarisse called and turned to the door as it opened. Seeing Rupert enter, with his bodyguard behind him, she smiled. "Good morning."
"Good morning," Rupert smiled and walked around the settee to her standing beside the coffee table. "I just came to see if you were ready to go."
"I am, but give me five minutes with Pierre," she said as Rupert leant closer to kiss her cheek.
"Of course," Rupert nodded and smiled as Clarisse hitched up her pencil skirt just a little with one hand while placing her other hand on the coffee table, to support herself, and knelt down on the floor beside Pierre. "Have you finished packing?"
"I have," Clarisse said as she sat back on her knees and looked up at him, "its just by the sideboard."
"I'll take it down with his highnesses," Peter said as both she and Rupert looked over at him.
"Oh, that will be perfect. Thank you, Peter." Clarisse said and smiled at him.
"It's no trouble, your majesty," he smiled and picked up her overnight bag from beside the sideboard and looked back over at them. "I'll see you downstairs when you are ready to leave."
"Yes, thank you Peter," Rupert said and watched as he bowed his head to him before leaving them to it. Looking down, Rupert smiled as Clarisse placed her hand on their sons back and took a sip of her pretend cup of tea.
"Mmm, Pierre, this cup of tea is just how I like it," Clarisse smiled and kissed his cheek, "thank you, sweetheart."
"You're welcome, mummy," Pierre smiled and leant closer, putting his arms around her neck to give her hug. "I'm going to miss you while you and daddy are away."
"We are going to miss you too," Rupert said as he sat on the edge of the sofa and watched him with Clarisse, "but we will be home tomorrow afternoon."
"Yes, nanny Annette is going to look after you while we are away," Clarisse smiled as Pierre pulled back and looked up into her eyes.
"I gave you the number of the hotel we are staying, didn't I?" Rupert asked as he looked at the nanny.
"Yes, your highness," Annette replied in her french accent and nodded.
"Now, we have to go," Clarisse said while taking Pierre's hands in hers and brought them up to her lips, kissing them both several times before looking up into the young boys eyes. "You be good for nanny, okay."
"Okay," Pierre nodded and looked at his father as he reached his hands across and ruffled his hair.
"You're always good, aren't you Pierre?" Rupert smiled as Clarisse got to her feet and walked over to the coat stand.
"Yes," Pierre said and he and his nanny giggled.
"Please remember to call if there's any problems," Clarisse said to the nanny while slipping on her coat. "And if you can't reach us, then call my parents."
"Of course, your majesty," Annette nodded and watched as Rupert scooped Pierre up in his arms, kissing his cheek and giving him a hug.
"Okay, good," Clarisse nodded while slipping on her gloves, "we will call when we have arrived." She said and looked up as Rupert walked over to her with Pierre still in his arms.
"Have a good time, mummy," Pierre smiled while leaning forward, giggling as Clarisse took him from Rupert.
"We will, sweetheart," Clarisse said and kissed his cheek before giving him a long hug and putting him down on his feet.
"Shall we go?" Rupert asked as Clarisse stood up straight beside him.
"Yes, or we will be late," Clarisse said and looked across at the nanny as she got to her feet. "Stay in here for as long as you want too, and we will see you tomorrow."
Smiling, Annette bowed her head to them and watched as Rupert opened the door for Clarisse to lead the way. "See you tomorrow." She said after them as they walked out of Clarisse's suite.
Early afternoon, after unpacking and hanging up her outfit for the wedding Clarisse had a bath and began to get ready when a knock came to the main penthouse door and hearing Sabrina's voice a moment later she walked over and opened her bedroom door. "Come on through, I'm just getting ready." She said while looking at her friend, then looked up at Peter, who had accompanied them on this trip along with another bodyguard, Alex, who stood at the main door. "Is Rupert ready yet?"
"No your majesty," he answered with a shake of his head as Sabrina made her way over to Clarisse. "Not yet."
"Okay, can you give me a knock when he's ready?" She asked.
"Of course, your majesty," Peter said and bowed his head.
Smiling, Clarisse stepped back into the room and waited for Sabrina to enter before closing the door up behind them. "Hello, it's so lovely to see you," she said and kissed her cheek.
"And you too," Sabrina smiled and began to remove her coat, "I was surprised when you called to tell me that not only you were going to be here, but Rupert too."
"I know, I managed to get him to clear his diary to attend with me," Clarisse said before glancing down at her friends obvious baby bump. Looking back up at her with her mouth open, she asked. "Are you... pregnant?"
"Uh huh," Sabrina beamed and nodded, "I'm nearly five months."
"Oh my goodness," Clarisse exclaimed as she stepped closer and hugged her friend, "congratulations, why didn't you tell me before?"
"What over the phone? And miss seeing your reaction?" Sabrina laughed as they pulled apart, "never."
"That's sneaky," Clarisse smirked and gave her another quick hug, "but who cares, I'm so happy for you and Harry."
"Thank you," Sabrina smiled as they pulled apart.
"Talking of Harry, where is he?" Clarisse asked.
"Oh, he's gone to Joseph's suite," Sabrina said. "He's best man isn't he, so he's travelling to the church with him."
"Wait.. Joseph's staying in this hotel too?" Clarisse asked.
"Yes, last night and for the next couple nights I believe, and will obviously be joined by the bride tonight," Sabrina said and watched as Clarisse looked away. "Didn't you know?"
"No, I didn't," Clarisse said with a shake of her head as she looked back at her friend. "I thought they were staying with his family."
"They were, but with tonight being their wedding night, they are staying here," Sabrina said.
"Ahh, suppose it makes sense," Clarisse nodded and looked down at her watch, "oh gosh, I better finish getting ready or we will be late. And I don't think my 'everyone else is early' comment will work this time." She laughed.
"No, not this time," Sabrina agreed and laughed with her friend.
"Anyway, please take a seat and make yourself at home while I finish my makeup," Clarisse said as she turned to make her way across the bedroom to the dressing table to finish getting ready while gesturing to the armchair beside the bed.
"Thank you," Sabrina smiled as she walked over, draped her coat over the queen size bed and turned back to Clarisse while taking a seat.
"Do you need a drink or anything while you wait?" Clarisse asked as she took a seat at the dressing table.
"Oh god no," Sabrina said with a shake of her head. "I want to be able to see the wedding, not spending it in the loo." She said and they both laughed.
"That's true, I forgot they like to sleep, and play on our bladders," Clarisse said and smiled across at her before picking up her makeup brush.
Sitting in the armchair, Sabrina tried to get comfortable while watching Clarisse a moment before asking. "So, are you and Rupert planning on having anymore children?"
Shaking her head, Clarisse looked down at her dressing table, remembering the conversation she and Rupert had shortly before they were married, about only having one child if their first was a boy. "No, ones enough for us." She said and looked up at her. "What with having Pierre and being a Queen, my hands are pretty full already."
"Yes, I suppose they are," Sabrina nodded as someone knocked on the door.
"Come in," Clarisse called and turned to the door as it opened.
"It's only me," Rupert said as he entered the room to see Sabrina sitting in the armchair. "Oh hello, I didn't realise you were here."
"Yes, remember we are giving her a lift to the church?" Clarisse said as she looked across at him.
"Oh, I remember now," Rupert said as he began to walk over to her. "Hello."
"Hello," Sabrina smiled and got to her feet as he stopped in front of her, kissing her cheek.
"Oh hey, you're having a baby," he exclaimed at seeing her bump. "Congratulations."
"Thank you," Sabrina smiled at him then across the room at Clarisse.
"Is there something wrong?" Clarisse asked as she gestured to the tie draped around his neck.
"Yes, I'm having trouble doing my tie." Rupert said and watched as she smiled knowingly at him and placed her hands down on her thighs, getting to her feet to walk over to him. "Normally my valet does it for me, but obviously he's not on this trip."
"I can do it?" Sabrina offered as Clarisse stopped.
"Are you sure?" Clarisse asked in surprise.
"Of course, you need to finish getting ready yourself or we will be late," Sabrina said.
"Thank you," Clarisse smiled at her then turned back to the dressing table.
"Yes," Rupert said and looked at Sabrina as she began to do his tie for him, "thank you."
"It's no trouble," Sabrina smiled up at him then down at the tie. "Besides, it's not everyday I get to do the King's tie." She said and they all laughed.
After Clarisse was finished getting ready they left for the church, but just as they were pulling away from the hotel entrance, Clarisse caught sight of Joseph walking out of the door with Harry and there was something about him that stirred her old feelings.
Reaching his hand across, Rupert placed it on her forearm and watched as she turned her head to him. "Are you alright?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," Clarisse nodded and smiled before leaning closer to kiss him.
"Are you sure?" He asked as she sat back in her seat.
"I am," she nodded and looked at Sabrina, who was sat looking at her. "Of course."
Clarisse nodded and looked back out of the window, watching the buildings pass by as they continued on their way to the church.
