Day Three: "It's okay to be angry. You're allowed to be upset about what happened to you." + hurt/comfort
Maddie sat on the couch, looking at her hands. Chimney was in the kitchen, had just got home, and he was trying to get her to eat something.
"I'm just not hungry," she said.
"You have to eat for Mango," he said gently, coming back into the living room. "Listen, I know you're stressed over what's been happening."
"Stressed?" Maddie scoffed, and immediately regretted her tone. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine," he said, kneeling before her, taking her hands into his. "Maddie. It's okay to be angry. You're allowed to be upset about what happened to you."
She felt her eyes fill with tears, spilling over, and she hated herself right now. "But Evan is the one who's going through the worst of this," she said, the words coming out in a sob. "I don't have the right to be upset, I'm not the one who was lied to."
"But you were a child," Chimney repeated. "And it wasn't okay for your parents to ask that of you. It's not your fault, and Evan will come around."
"I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing right now," she said. "He really didn't want to see me today, and I don't know what else I should do."
"Wait," he said, caressing her fingers with his thumbs. "He'll come around, okay?"
"Yeah," she whispered, finally leaning forward enough for Chimney to pull her into his arms.
